Scorpina, Baboo, and Squatt have either equal or close to equal amount of time spent on them as was spent on Zack and the portion dealing with Zack mostly dealt with the Scopina and the Eclipse Ring plot.While I felt this books sister book, Tournament of Terror, is weaker, I have to say that it did better with exploring Kimberly than this one did with Zack. In Tournament of Terror, Kimberly had to dealt with balancing a gymnastics tournament, a Ninja Warrior-like game show to earn money for a hearing-impaired center, and her Ranger duties as gaslight her. Here? The closest it comes to exploring Zack is when he accidentally uses the ring on Billy and the guilt he feels while the team tries to rescue Billy and defeat Scorpina. However, this comes in at around 60% of the way through the book and with the constant shifting from Zack to the other rangers to the villains means the story cant focus on this aspect to its fullest.Besides the above, I also found it hard to place the book in the timeline of the TV show. Scorpina was first introduced during the Green with Evil five-parter, yet we have no mention or appearance of Tommy, meaning it must be between when he lost his powers during the Green Candle arc and the Return of an Old Friend arc. Yet, when they find out theyre fighting Scorpina, Zack makes a comment suggesting its set closer to her original appearance. Plus, when we see the villains for the first time in the book, it comes off as though this is Scorpinas first appearance.Overall, I quite liked this book. It definitely felt like an episode of season 1 of Mighty Morphin. However it could had focused on Zacks guilt a lot more and the book could had ended two chapters earlier.
