CP Week Three: Literary Lyrics Answer Key Poetry is unique because of the wide range of valid interpretations we can all take from reading it. In turn, that means there may be more than one correct answer. Some literary devices may be more prominent than others, but there may be a number of devices within one song, line, or even word. If you can correctly explain your identification of a literary device and show comprehension, then you have accurate analysis.

1. What one of this week's four literary devices are used in Eminem’s “313"? “So just in case you don't remember me I'll run your brain around the block To jog your memory."

● Pun -- Eminem is making a play on words with “run” and “jog” ● This is not personification in the second line because Eminem would be the one doing the jogging, not the brain. Pun is the stronger example.

2. What one of this week's four literary devices are used in The Beatles’ "A Hard Day’s Night"? "It's been a hard day's night, And I've been working like a dog. "

● Oxymoron -- Two contradictory ideas next to each other (day and night)

3. What one of this week's four literary devices are used in The All-American Rejects’ “It Ends Tonight"? "The walls start breathing My mind's unweaving."

● Personification -- “walls start breathing”

4. What two of this week's four literary devices are used in Demi Lovato’s "Skyscraper"? "Skies are crying, I am watching Catching teardrops in my hands Only silence, as it's ending Like we never had a chance Do you have to make me feel like There's nothing left of me? [...]

Yeah-oh, go run, run, run Yeah, it's a long way down But I am closer to the clouds up here."

● Personification -- skies are crying ● Oxymoron -- long way down and up here. Down and up are contradictory and placed directly next to one another with intention.
