USA INTERNSHIP, COMMUNICATIONS

USA Basketball, the national governing body in the United States for the sport of basketball, is seeking applicants for one paid internship in its communications department. The position is a four-month appointment, beginning in May 2021 and concluding in August 2021. Some flexibility on the beginning and ending dates does exist.

USA Basketball is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is approximately 70 miles south of Denver. USA Basketball consists of 26 full-time employees. Candidates should be highly motivated, well organized, knowledgeable of basketball and able to handle projects related to several teams at once. Extensive hours and availability to work weekends and holidays are required at times. Because many USA Basketball teams compete outside North America, some odd hours may be required. The selected candidate will need their own transportation and will need to secure their own housing. This is an excellent opportunity for applicants who desire to make a career in athletic media/public relations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the communications department, including, but not limited to, the following: • Assist USA Basketball communications department of three full-time staff members with the overall effort and publicizing of USA Basketball youth programs as well as men's and women's basketball teams, which in 2021 will include the U.S. men's and women’s national and Olympic teams; USA men’s and women’s U19 World Cup teams; FIBA Americas U16 Championship teams; FIBA 3x3 competitions; USA Basketball 3x3 National Championships, Esports and additional events, team trials and training camps. • The selected candidate will be responsible for: o Lead creation and distribution of game notes during Olympic Games. o Writing assigned press releases and game stories. o Writing feature articles and player/coach profiles for USA Basketball’s website. o Assisting with the updating and publishing of content for USA Basketball's website. o Production of assigned team media guides/publications. o Compiling and writing biographical backgrounds on USA Basketball athletes and coaches. o Assisting in event management; contacting media and developing media lists. o Compiling and maintaining team cumulative statistics and records using Stat Crew. o Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Strong writing and editing skills. • It is preferred that candidates already have earned a bachelor's degree in communications or a related field and possess student assistant/intern experience in a college/professional sports information or communications department or writing experience with college newspaper/ magazine/yearbook. • Knowledge of basketball statistics and of the Associated Press Style Handbook. • Working computer knowledge with QuarkXPress (or other desktop publishing software), Sitecore (web publishing), Adobe Photoshop and Stat Crew.

• Ability to work within fast-paced environment as part of a team, including effective coordination with members of other departments.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: • $13.00 Hourly Wage. • Eligible for overtime after 40 hours per week.
