EPBF Press Officer Clercst. 2 Mobile: +49 (0) 151 23 555 139 6441 CT Brunssum Email: [email protected] Netherlands Press Release Down to last 32 players In an epic thriller, Melling ousted Petroni to secure a spot in the single elimination Friday, 30 September 2011: Chris Melling (GBR) ousted Fabio Petroni (ITA) in an epic thriller with 8:7. The match started off to Melling’s liking. He was ahead 4:0 after about 10 minutes. Knowing Melling, this is not unusual. But Petroni did not think about giving in. “I was surprised when he fought back and got me under a lot of pressure”, said Melling. Petroni performed a strong comeback and tied the score at 4:4. Then Melling Chris Melling (GBR) Foto: EPBF/AMM ran another rack with his own break and benefitted from Petroni breaking dry, taking a 6:4 lead again. Once more, Petroni was down two racks and once more he did not give in but fought back. He profited from Melling who found himself unluckily snookered after he pocketed a tough jump shot. Running that rack and another one, Petroni tied the match at 6:6. He was almost on his way to the hill when the cue ball scratched into the side pocket from an almost unbelievable angle. Lady Luck was on Melling’s side this time. So Melling was on the hill first. But needless to say that Petroni again did not give in and tied the match at 7:7. Then, after a few safety shots were exchanged, Melling found himself in the better position and ran the rack, winning the thriller with 8:7.

Living Legends Challenge ike Sigel and Earl Strickland, without a doubt, are “living legends”. Although both players are Hall -of-Famers, Earl has been competing and practicing regularly while Mike has only practiced for this contest. As we all know, both Earl Mand Mike like to talk to anyone who will listen and that’s what they did. Both players were mic’d and were free to express themselves without limitations. The variety of six disciplines: 8-Ball, 9-Ball, 10-Ball, Straight Pool, Banks, and One- Pocket made each player a favorite in several disciplines. As a result, it was an exceptional match that’s worth seeing again. Aramith/SimonisResults for Arena, day John1 Bender and Bill Hendrixson commentating, Sandcastle Billiards, Edison, NJ 1. The show was the chatter. Clearly Earl looked in form as Sigel struggled. Earl competes and practices regularly while Mike tried to get ready for this challenge match and it showed as Earl dominated the 8-Ball match. The 10-Ball match started out similarly, but a Strickland skid on game ball changed things including a swelling confidence from Sigel. It ended up a squeaker as Mike tied it up at 7-7 yet Earl closed it out at 8-7. Again, the player’s mic’d made it a blast. Straight Pool was the game that all thought Mike had his best chance at turning the tables on Earl.

PRESS RELEASE EPBF Press Office Spain Open / Malaga 6. – 8. December 2008 Niels Feijen seizes the Crown of Spain! The EPBF could not have wished for a better end to 2008 after the successful anniversary EC in Willingen, Germany, now also the Dynamic-Eurotour makes history. Once again new records were broken and superlatives were reached in Malaga where the field was completely full and had a long waiting list. Good for the ones, who signed in on time and did not need to hope for a late cancellation place. Niels Feijen Starting at Thursday morning at the beautiful hotel & Casino Torrequebrada on the Costa del Sol the “Hall of Fame” of the modern times started. The reigning world champions Ralf Souquet, Niels Feijen, Daryl Peach and Darren Appleton again had a rendezvous in order to play with more than 250 participants from 36 nations for 44.000 euro prize money. The EPBF Eurotour, which is considered as the hardest tournament series of the world, found its worthy winner in Spain. The Dutchman Niels Feijen, who was able to assure the WC-title in Straight Pool in August in New York, showed world class achievements from the beginning and could also hold this all the way to the end. Only in the preliminary round Feijen failed: he lost to a strong Sandor Tot with 4:9, however this did not distract him during the remainder of the tournament and without much trouble he reached the last 32. In the Single elimination stages he eliminated Mateusz Sniegocki (9: 7), Nick van den Berg (9: 7), Daryl Peach (9: 8) and Tony Drago (9: 4) with partially embattled matches in order to meet the impressive Swede, Marcus Chamat in the final.

It’s World Pool time again page 1 of 3 Column for Philippine Daily Inquirer PDI 07-17, 11-01-07 [for publication on 11-03-2007] It’s World Pool time again Mahar Mangahas It’s time to go for pool glory again, as 128 of the finest players on the planet clash in the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship (WPC) at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, from today, November 3, up to Sunday, November 11th. There will be several hours of live telecasts every day, simultaneously on ABS-CBN (Studio 23 at first, and possibly also Channel 2 later) for matches of more interest to locals, and on ESPN for matches aimed at global viewers. The WPC is the flagship event of the World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA), the international governing body for pool. First staged in 1990, it is now the most prestigious pool tournament in the world, with a prize of US$100,000 to the champion. Under a long-term agreement with WPA, since 1999 the WPC tournament has been managed by the British company Matchroom Sport. In 2006, the WPC came for the first time to the Philippines, which Matchroom calls “the spiritual home of pool.” The host-country stager is again Raya Sports, in partnership with the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP). The three great pool powers in the world today are the Philippines, Taiwan, and the United States – in that order, in my opinion as a relatively ancient aficionado, salted no doubt by a pinch of national pride.
