Top Ten Long Course Meters ~ -- $7.00 United States Masters Swimming, Inc. 1997 Top Ten Long Course Meters and World Records as of November 1, 1997 Short Course Meters Long Course Meters 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111D ~ Published December 1997 UNITED STATES MASTERS SWIMMING 1997 TOP TEN LONG co·URSE METERS The 1997 Lon2 Course Top Ten is the second issue in a series of three 1997 Top Ten issues produced by United States Masters Swimming. Inside you will find the Top Ten Times for the 1997 Long Course Meter season (swims performed in a 50 meter pool) made on or before September 30, 1997 and forwarded to the Records and Tabulation Chairman, Pieter Cath. by October 20th, 1997. Each LMSC is responsible for reporting the Top Ten Times, USMS national records, and world records achieved in its LMSC. The first line under each event (which is indented) is the current national record for that event and age group. An "NV" after a top ten time indicates that appropriate documentation has not yet been supplied and the time is Not Verified. Each person (individuals and relay members) on this list is eligible to purchase a Top Ten Patch with stroke segment. To receive a patch, send $5 to Darlynne Ferguson, P.O. Box 8005, Canton, OH 44711. Add $1 for each additional stroke segment desired. The first issue in this series is 1996-1997 Short Course Yards (swims performed in a 25 meter pool). Times and records considered for this Top Ten list must be made on or before May 31st and reported to the Top Ten Chairman by July 15th. The 1997 Short Course Meters (swims performed in a 25 meter pool) list is the final issue in this series of Top Tens. Times and records considered for this Top Ten list must be made on or before December 31st and reported to the Top Ten Chairman by February 5th. Once the SCM Top Ten is finalized, the official 1997 All American Roster will be produced. A swimmer/ relay who has the Top Ten time in one or more event(s) in any one of the three courses qualifies for All American status. To order an All American Certificate and Patch, send a check for $5 made out to USMS to: USMS National Office, 261 High Range Road, Londonderry, NH 03053. Those individuals performing the most first place times, in the most events, in their age group are awarded All Star status. All Stars will receive a special award from The FINALS, this years event sponsor. All American (individual) and All Star rosters wi ll appear in the May/June issue of SWIM Magazine. The USMS All Time Top Ten is available in all three courses. This publication lists the top ten fastest times recorded over the years in each age group and each event.     96 DIVISION I Swimming and Diving DIVISION I 2002 Championships Highlights Texas Hooks Up Swimming Title: The Texas Longhorns pulled out their third consecutive championship in dramatic fashion, coming back to take the lead in the second-to-last event of the meet and holding on for the victory. The Longhorns finished with 512 points, 11 more than the Stanford Cardinal. That margin of victory is the closest since the advent of the 16-place scoring system in 1985. Divers made the difference for the Longhorns. Troy Dumais was named diver of the meet for the third straight time after sweeping the spring- board events and taking fifth on platform. With his win in the three- meter event, he became the first diver in NCAA history to win an event all four years. Photo by Erik S. Alabama returns three other All-Americans to its roster in sophomore Chris Perry, senior Hunor Maté and junior Mike Jones. Jones was also a part of the Tide’s record setting 200 freestyle relay last season. Tsagkarakis, Randall and Jones will have plenty of help in the freestyle events, including freshmen Drew Finelli and Sam Morgan along with sophomores Kevin Greer, Alin Mihalca and Austin Shirey.
