He would say that you could spend 8 hours a day 7 days a week working on your personal anger, resentments, fears and guilt. I used to want to about punch him in the head and ringing in my head were the words, “that doesn’t sound like much fun at all….” He would further that by saying that even if and when you did that, you may go outside only to stub your toe on a rock and shout an obscenity only to raise your fist to God and realize it was back into the cave you went to do more work. There is no shortage of ick in our lives. We are exposed to it daily from an irate spouse or co worker to road rage going to work. But what you do, and how you cope allows for the “agents of change” to create a crack in the window that can make a huge difference in how you act, feel and react to life as you know it. An agent of change can be the Holy Spirit, your archangel, spirit Myliquidfish.com and How to Heal Yourself and Others Now © 2013 Jimmy Mack • All rights reserved – 7 – guides, your great grandfather, etc. When we were 18 we were concerned about what everyone thought about us. When we turn 36 we couldn’t care less about what people think about is and when we turn 62 we realize, no one was ever thinking about us to begin with. It’s like my father’s favorite crude joke, the man takes down his pants and the woman says, “Who do you plan on pleasing with that little thing?” And the man says, “Me.” So don’t wait to stub your toe coming out of the cave, hell don’t go in the cave to begin with. Anything you can do for you, to improve YOUR life will allow an agent of change to be the catalyst to have it happen, but it will create a vacuum around you so that either the people around you change as well, or you don’t mind so much if they don’t. I will settle for either outcome. Remember to work on you, work on you, work on you. It is not being selfish or self centered or a bitch or a bastard. It is improving you all the way to the door and allowing your life to become more enriching, powerful and fun. Myliquidfish.com and How to Heal Yourself and Others Now © 2013 Jimmy Mack • All rights reserved – 8 – o much of my life and yours has probably had what most S people would consider controversy and both ups of triumph and downs of catastrophic misery. I have had endless what I call “so what”. My brother died upstairs in our home by overdosing on drugs and alcohol. He was tall and looked like Tom Cruise, and women clung to him as he walked down the street. To this day I mourn his loss and you never really get over it, but the pain goes dull over time. In spite of being gorgeous, smart and funny he could not shake his demons. I tell some people my 3- year marriage was the best 3 months of my life. Insert grin icon here if you know what I am saying. My father bordered on whatever is past a “disciplinarian” and we lost millions in our family business until we finally lost everything. So when I call it all “so what” I am not being flippant to your life trials and tribulations, I am merely saying that we have all had them and it is what you do after them as in Myliquidfish.com and How to Heal Yourself and Others Now © 2013 Jimmy Mack • All rights reserved – 9 – now as in today as in what’s for lunch? That will determine whether you wallow in self pity and curl up on the couch the rest of your life with tissues and chocolates or whether you turn your coal into a diamond. My Blue Crab theory is where you have several of these crabs in your shallow bucket. They will strive to climb on top of each other in an effort to get out and reach freedom. It seems no matter how hard they try or what they do, as they seem to be making progress another one of the crabs will reach over and up and clamp on to the crab and pull it back down in the bucket. Without food or water they all eventually die. They are not cooperative but instead all reach the same demise without helping or contributing to one another or helping each other for a good common cause that in this case would be freedom and life. Who you associate with can also make a huge difference in your life. Do not hesitate to cut out the dead weight. It may read harsh and sound harsh but there are just some people that are not only miserable but the last thing they want is to see you happy. They could be jealous on some level, they could be unhappy and have so many blocks they would not know where to begin to clear any of them, let alone all of them. So the last thing they want to hear about or experience is your happiness, or success or triumph. Myliquidfish.com and How to Heal Yourself and Others Now © 2013 Jimmy Mack • All rights reserved – 10 – On a topic… magine standing facing due north and utilizing applied I kinesiology and muscle testing. You are hydrated, somewhat relaxed and if your feet are hip width apart like strong mountain pose in yoga, you should be able to get some great responses. You should be able to rock forward to yes when asking for or saying “Yes” and you should rock back for No when saying “No.” If you need help on this, Google or go to YouTube and watch applied kinesiology or muscle testing. If you already do this by hand or use a pendulum or feel light for yes and heavy for a no, then that is great too. Go with that. Now imagine that you have an issue with several people, let’s say family or work. Perhaps there are 3-5 people, the actually number can vary and that’s ok. Imagine you are holding a balloon with a closed fist at or about at your waist or belly button. Myliquidfish.com and How to Heal Yourself and Others Now © 2013 Jimmy Mack • All rights reserved – 11 – Imagine the balloons, and assign a shape and color to each one. Now put each person’s name on a different balloon and breath in and out and then run through a series of statements. Let’s pretend that there are 3 balloons. Red for Fred Jones, Blue for Jim Smith and Green for Mary Parker. Now I want you to really envision the balloons and the written names. For the true disbeliever, go buy balloons and use a magic marker sharpie and write each person’s name on a different balloon. Then while holding the balloons make simple statements like, “Fred Jones, Jim Smith and Mary Parker and I all love each other” Chances are if you are having a middle eastern skirmish with these people at work or at home, the answer will rock you back on your heels to a no. When it does that I would then envision a line or small rocket going up above you and the balloons shooting off your left side and moving above you towards your center high above your head and as that veers right it then loops back down and flies right to left only to shoot up into space way above you. It should look like a hand drawn SIMPLE gold fish that you drew with one fluid line in one fluid motion. You could say nothing to release whatever is blocking you and these people from loving one another or you could say whatever you wish like, “I am releasing whatever is blocking us from loving one another” It is not imperative that you know what the block is but the longer you do this the more likely you are to have a knowing like a voice in your head telling you what it is. I would then redraw this giant in space stick figured gold fish as if I were retracing those same lines, only this time the rocket is coming back out of the atmosphere and the sky heading towards your left side and it then shoots across your vision to the right and loops back up slightly and goes left then swoops back down towards you.

A male figure is seated and wearing a business suit and has a black bag over his head, aware but relaxed, patient and waiting and following and sensing movements around him. K-LOW (Off Stage) I’ve died more times than Jason from Friday the 13th, and I am NOT HAPPY. Mess with this bitch and I’ll cut your head off, jab it repeatedly with a rusty fork. Is that clear? This bitch did not have the time of her life, now she's kicking ass. (K-LOW, enters, she a woman in her twenties, is stylishly dressed, wearing a skirt, high heels, and make-up as if she is about to go out on the town.) You're going to feel this bitch's pain, whether you want to or not. Look out for this deceptively cute bitch, all I have to say. Back from the dead, this long-time “Bitch from Hell!” hasn't slowed down a step. I’m wondering if I should kick you in the balls to start? Okay, let’s get this going... I'm thinking...should I torture you? How about I strip down to my underwear, finger myself for fun? (K-LOW pulls the bag off of the male figure to reveal CAMERON.) CAMERON is about to speak.) Shut up. You need to be very careful. CAMERON Can I say something? K-LOW Let us hear, let us hear.

00:00:00 Music Music “Crown Ones” off the album Stepfather by People Under The Stairs 00:00:06 Oliver Wang Host Hello, I’m Oliver Wang. 00:00:08 Morgan Host And I’m Morgan Rhodes. You’re listening to Heat Rocks. Rhodes Every episode we invite a guest to join us to talk about a heat rock. You know, fire, combustibles, albums that bump eternally. Today we will be deep diving together into the cult classic 1971 album by Karen Dalton, In My Own Time. 00:00:24 Music Music “Take Me” off the album In My Own Time by Karen Dalton. Sad, slow music with crooning, raspy, vibrating vocals. Take me to your darkest room Close every window and lock every door [Music fades out as Morgan speaks.] 00:00:46 Morgan Host Turn to your neighbor and say, “I thank God I don’t look like what I’ve been through.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that over the years; and more than an acknowledgement of the virtue of melanin, it is meant to suggest that whatever else a close read of your backstory might reveal, pain doesn’t always show on your face. ‘Cause sometimes it shows up in your voice, as it did with Karen Dalton on her album for Paramount records, In My Own Time. Karen Dalton sounded like what she’d been through. Raspy world- weariness, longing and sadness, even on songs meant to be happy like Holland-Dozier’s “How Sweet It Is.” Karen Dalton did two things for sure on this album: uncovered pain on an album of covers, and spent those covers strumming her pain with her fingers, in blues, in folk, in gospel, and in rock.

  • Dancing in the Street”--Martha and the Vandellas (1964) Added to the National Registry: 2005 Essay by Cary O’Dell
“Dancing in the Street”--Martha and the Vandellas (1964) Added to the National Registry: 2005 Essay by Cary O’Dell Martha and the Vandellas Erudite music critic Dave Marsh has called it, “As pure a product of its day as anything Dylan or the Beatles ever imagined.” The song is “Dancing in the Street,” written by William Stevenson, Marvin Gaye, and Ivy Jo Hunter and recorded by Martha and the Vandellas in 1964. Since its release in July of ’64 (it would reach #2 on the Billboard pop chart by September), the song has gone on to become one of Gordy/Motown and pop music’s most definitive works and a powerful anthem, sometimes in spite of itself. The Martha of Martha and the Vandellas is Martha Reeves. She was born in Alabama in 1941 and raised in Detroit. She began singing with her friends Annette Beard and Rosalind Ashford, as the Del-Phi’s, while still in high school. They cut their first records in 1960. But stardom was not, at that time, in the cards. Not long after, however, and after Reeves briefly pursed a solo career, Reeves became the secretary to Mickey Stevenson, an exec at Detroit’s renowned Motown Records. Legend has it that, one day, label founder Berry Gordy, Jr. needed some backup singers for a session then in progress. Knowing of Reeves’ recording ambitions, he called her and her friends, Beard and Ashford, into the studio. The trio of ladies would end up singing back-up on two Marvin Gaye records, “Stubborn Kind of Fellow” and “Hitch Hike.” Under the moniker Martha and the Vandellas (a hybrid of Detroit’s Van Dyke Street and singer Della Reese’s first name), the revived group also quickly recorded their own single, “I’ll Have to Let Him Go.” Liking the end results, Gordy signed the group to their own contract in September 1962.
