A Furness Peninsula Mid Furness 3 5,136 -4% Furness Peninsula Ward lies in the south west corner of Low Furness , adjoining Barrow Borough Council to the south. Part of the proposed ward to the north, lies in the Lake District National Park. The proposed ward covers the rural area surrounding to the north, west and south and is made up of a number of different close knit communities. The proposed ward is bounded in the east by the Levens Estuary and Crake Valley. To the west the boundary follows a chain of hills beyond which lie the settlements of the High Furness area. To the south it is relatively low land leading to Morecambe Bay sands. The proposed Furness Peninsula Ward is fed by the A590 from Barrow in the south and and onwards from the east. It includes the main residential areas in Swarthmoor. B Ulverston North and East Ulverston North 3 4,977 -7% The proposed Ulverston North and East Ward covers the Ulverston Town main residential areas north of the main railway line. Residential areas include the Hart Street, Quebec Street, Ulverston East Soutergate and Daltongate locale. The proposed ward covers an area of approximately 3,150 households or 55% of all dwellings in Ulverston as a whole. The proposed ward is fed by the A590 and includes the Ulverston Health Clinic, main Canal industrial area and town centre services.

C Ulverston South and West Ulverston Central 3 5,644 5% Covering 45% of all dwellings in Ulverston the proposed Ulverston South ward covers the area to the south and west of the town. It includes Ulverston Victoria High School, and the main Ulverston West residential areas in Croftlands and towards Swarthmoor. Ulverston’s leisure centre is located in the proposed ward as well as precision electronic system manufacturers. D Kendal North and Kendal Underley 3 5,059 -5% The proposed ward is located north west of the town Burneside Kendal Strickland centre and encompasses Hallgarth residential areas across Underley and Strickland. Burneside It includes the residential areas in Burneside and along the Burneside Road, linking Kendal and Burneside, and includes the rural areas north of Kendal found in the current Burneside Ward. E Kendal South and Natland Kendal Oxenholme 3 6,006 12% The proposed ward is the largest in terms of total number and Natland of electors. It covers the Heron Hill, Oxenholme and Kendal Parks Natland residential areas and extends south encompassing the Helm and Barrows Green. Kendal Heron Hill It includes retail areas towards Oxenholme, the West Coast mainline station and Westmorland General Hospital. Due to proposed new housing developments in the area the electorate forecast for the proposed ward is set to increase by 19% (963 electorate) between 2015 and 2021. The ward incorporates the residential areas of Heron Hill and Parks as a whole. This is one of the main residential areas in south Kendal. Natland has close community ties to the area. Natland looks to Kendal as the key service centre for the village and wider locale.

F Kendal West Kendal Stonecross 3 5,602 5% The proposed ward takes into account the main Kendal Romney residential areas south and west of the town centre. Kendal Kirkland These include Kirkbarrow, Collinfield and The Lound areas. A number of schools are located in the proposed ward as is Kendal College. The main road into Kendal from the south (linking to the A591) runs through these Wards and it is on the main bus route operating in the town. G Kendal East Kendal Nether 3 5,122 -4% This proposed ward is located to the east of the River Kendal Castle Kent and covers the residential areas around Kendal Castle and Sandylands. Kendal Far Cross It includes industrial areas off Aynam Road as well as schools and Kendal Railway Station. H Kendal Town Kendal Fell 3 5,607 5% The proposed ward covers the town centre and Kendal Highgate residential areas to the west including Fellside, Sandes Avenue and Mintsfeet. Kendal Mintsfeet Mintsfeet is the main industrial area of Kendal. The ward includes a number of retail areas, as well as the main shopping centre, bus station and pedestrian area, schools and services centrally located – including the emergency services and local government hubs.

I Burton, Holme and Burton and Holme 3 5,356 0% Currently Burton and Holme is a two member ward. The Crooklands Crooklands proposed ward encompasses the current Crooklands ward. ( - Hincaster PD) Links include the M6 and A65. It is also proposed to remove Hincaster Polling District (PD) from this ward. The Hincaster PD has an electorate of 192 and it is proposed that it will be included in the Two Valleys proposal (Map ref L). There are common links between Hincaster and Heversham, as demonstrated with the recent Neighbourhood Plan. Therefore moving Hincaster PD to the Two Valleys Ward (within which Heversham PD is situated) recognises the strong community ties between these two Parishes. Mostly rural, the new Burton, Holme and Crooklands Ward include residential areas in Burton-in-Kendal as well as villages in and around Crooklands, Lupton, Stainton and Sedgwick. J Arnside, Beetham and Arnside and Beetham 3 5,624 5% Currently Arnside and Beetham is a two-member ward. Milnthorpe Milnthorpe The proposed ward encompasses the current Milnthorpe ward. Milnthorpe serves as the main service centre to the residential areas in and around the Arnside and Beetham locale.

K Grange and Cartmel Cartmel and Grange 3 6,004 12% The proposed ward brings together the current Grange West Wards whilst ensuring the community bond of Cartmel is Grange South recognised. Grange North Cartmel residents regard Grange-over-Sands as their key service centre and so forms an integral part of the proposed ward. Comparable to Kendal South and Natland (reference E) in terms of electorate forecast the proposed ward incorporates the close knit rural community to the west of Grange-over-Sands Due to proposed new housing developments in the area the electorate forecast is set to increase by 18% between 2015 and 2021 (892 electorate). As a consequence the total number of electors is forecasted to exceed the level of variance. L Two Valleys Staveley-in-Cartmel 3 4,973 -7% The Two Valleys proposal encompasses the very rural (- Haverthwaite PD) areas in central South Lakeland stretching from Levens in the east to the south east shore of Windermere. Lyth Valley The valleys include the Crosthwaite and Lyth areas as Levens well as the residential areas in Broughton East and the Hincaster PD surrounds. It is proposed that Haverthwaite Polling District forms part of the new Hawkshead and Holker ward. Main links include the A590 and A5074. Hincaster PD has been removed from the Burton, Holme and Crooklands Ward and is included in this ward due to its close ties with Heversham PD which lies within the current Levens Ward.

M Windermere and Staveley Windermere Town 3 4,969 -7% The proposed ward brings together the established Windermere wards in Windermere and incorporates the current Applethwaite (PD) Staveley-in-Westmorland Ward connected via the A591 and railway line to Windermere. (- Troutbeck PD) It includes the rural settlements in Staveley and Ings as Staveley-in- well as Kentmere to the north. Westmorland N Windermere Bowness Windermere Bowness 2 3,248 -9% The proposed ward brings together the current wards North located in Bowness to create a two member ward. Windermere Bowness It recognises the community links between the current South wards which are located adjacent to lake Windermere and at some distance from Windermere town; whilst noting the specific Bowness identity when taking into account the shared service centre of Windermere town to the north. O Lakes Troutbeck (PD) 2 3,399 -5% The proposed Lakes Ward is situated in the north west of and South Lakeland and the centre of the Lake District Grasmere National Park. The ward incorporates the Troutbeck area in line with Lakes Parish boundaries. The proposed Lakes Ward is fed by the A591 from Keswick, the Lakes and the North. The same road also feeds into the ward from the east and Kendal. The A593 enters the south-west of the ward and links the area to Coniston, Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness. The M6 motorway approximately 16 miles away to the southeast provides easy access to the north and Scotland and direct routes to the south. Hourly trains link Windermere to Kendal Oxenholme, then onto Scotland and the south.

P Hawkshead and Holker Hawkshead 2 3,919 10% Bordering the Lakes Ward to the north and the sands of Haverthwaite (PD) the Cartmel Peninsula to the south, the proposed ward is made up of a number of close knit communities including Holker the parish of Haverthwaite. It runs along the west side of Windermere and includes Claife Heights and Grizedale Forest. The ward is connected by rural roads running from the A590. Although mainly rural in identity the proposed ward includes residential areas in Hawkshead, Backbarrow and the smaller villages around Holker and Colton. Q High Furness Broughton 2 3,320 -7% The proposed High Furness Ward combines the current Coniston and Crake Broughton and Coniston and Crake Valley Wards. High Valley Furness ward is fed by the A593 from Ambleside and the north, and the A590 from Barrow and Ulverston from the south. The M6 motorway is approximately 30 miles away to the south east and provides easy access to Penrith, and the north, as well as direct routes to the south. Hourly trains link Ulverston and Kendal to Scotland and the south. High Furness Ward is situated in the south of the Lake District National Park. It offers some of the most breath-taking scenery the UK has to offer. It is home to Coniston Water and the Old Man of Coniston as well as the Duddon Valley to the west. The make-up of the ward is distinctly rural and isolated with the key service centres of Broughton and Coniston.

R Whinfell Whinfell 1 1,655 -7% Whinfell Ward is one of the largest geographic wards in South Lakeland. It covers an area of 177.5km squared with a total of 886 dwellings. Whinfell is a very sparse rural community with 11.8 people per square mile. This compares to Kendal Fell ward with 1672.3 people per square mile. The villages within this ward have ties between each other but not to any surrounding wards to any great extent, other than Kendal being their service centre. S and Kirkby Sedbergh and Kirkby 3 5,307 -1% Sedbergh and Ward is fed by the A684 Lonsdale Lonsdale from Kendal and the west. The A65 feeds in to the south of the ward from junction 36 of the M6, which gives direct links to the north, Scotland and the South. The north of the ward is fed by the A683 from the north and the A684 from the east and Yorkshire. Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale Ward is situated in the east of the South Lakeland District. The western edge of the ward runs alongside a substantial stretch of the M6 motorway. The east of the ward is on the fringes of North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The make-up of the ward is distinctly rural and isolated. The river Lune runs through the entire western part of the ward. The picturesque old market towns of Kirkby Lonsdale in the very south and Sedbergh in the centre are the two main settlements situated in the ward.  1 x 1 Member Ward, 19 51 90,927  4 x 2 Member Wards, Wards  14 x 3 Member Wards.
