Parishioners, guests, and friends of St. Mary will be coming together on September 8 for our 2018 Parish Block Party. The second and final early bird raffle drawing is going to take place this coming Friday. ’t miss out on your chance to win. Raffle tickets are to be re- turned to the Parish Office. Block Party tickets are available online as well as at the Parish Of- fice. On behalf of the planning committee we hope that you are able to come and share in the community, fun, and fellowship at the Parish Block Party.

Do you know of someone, work with someone, or live with someone who is not Catholic? You are once again encouraged to pass on an invitation to neighbors, family, and friends who have expressed an interest in be- coming a member of the Roman through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) here at St. Mary’s. To learn more about the RCIA you can contact either Fr. Mark or myself. May our parish be a living witness of faith to one another, neighbor and guest sparking and creating a deeper desire to join the Catholic Church.

In many ways are lives are enhanced by the internet and all that it offers. Some individuals choose to use the internet for less than noble purposes. Have you experienced or heard of phishing? It is a term used to describe a malicious individual or group of individuals who try to scam users. They do so by sending emails or creating web pages that are designed to collect an individual's online bank, credit card, or other login information. Another def- inition of phishing is a scam by which an Internet user is duped (as by a deceptive email message) into revealing personal or confidential information which the scammer can use illicitly. Lastly, phishing is a form of fraud in which an attacker masquerades as a reputable entity or person in email or other communication channels.

Like you, I regularly use email. I use it to share information with Parish Staff, faculty, and parishioners. The one and only email address that I use for parish business and ministry is [email protected].

Because of phishing, over the last five months I have been busy reaching out to staff, faculty, and parish- ioners sharing with them time and time again that attempts and scams made with fraudulent email accounts have not and do not come from me. These attacks and misrepresentations are becoming a nuisance as well as a distrac- tion to many at the Church and School of St. Mary. I am sorry if you or someone in the parish has received a ficti- tious email from someone claiming to be your pastor, using an email that at quick glance may seem to come from me but does not. I have been told by technology experts that there is no solution or anything that can be done to prevent this form of fraud. Thank you for your understanding if you receive such an email.

As mentioned above, the one email I use at the Church of St. Mary is: [email protected].

You are welcome to come and worship with our school children when they gather for Mass. Our first school Masses of the year will be this coming week, August 28 and August 29. Wednesday Mass will be offered at 8:00am at St. Mary’s and at 9:00am at St. Patrick’s. (There will be no 6:30am Mass on Wednes- days during the school year.) Dear Parishioners of the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest,

On my own behalf and that of the entire Brothers of St. Charles Lwanga, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the welcome, love, care, and hospitality rendered to me during my visit on July 28 and 29.

We are very happy to know that there are people who are helping to make this world a community of solidarity going beyond cultures, races, religions, and continents. Your kindness and support will certainly help us to continue our work in East Africa and your generosity will make a significant impact on the communities we serve especially in our schools where thousands of children will benefit from your kindness by having constant running water.

Once again thank you for your generosity, may you be blessed to receive a hundredfold from your generosity. Thank you, with kindest regards and deep appreciation of your role in the missionary endeavors of our Church.

Yours in Christ, Brother Charles Nuwagaba

Our parish will celebrate the Anointing of the Sick within the context of the Eucharist on Sunday, September 23 at Noon in our church.

The Anointing of the Sick is one of the Church's seven sacraments instituted by Christ. In this sacrament, the Church proclaims her belief in Christ's power over the pain and suffering of illness. This is a powerful way to meet the Lord and receive strength and mercy from Him.

If you would like to be anointed during the 12 o’clock Mass on September 23 please r.s.v.p. to the receptionist at St. Mary’s at 847.234.0205. CHURCH OF ST. MARY CHOIR

The Church of St. Mary Choir will resume rehearsals on Thursday, September 13 at 7:30pm in the church choir loft. The choir normally sings at the 10:00am Mass on Sundays, as well as other major liturgical celebrations, and rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00pm. We are encouraging new members to join us this year, and especially welcome those who have choral experience, such as having sung in church, high school, or college choirs. The choir has profes- sional section leaders, so even if your ability to read music is somewhat limited, they are there to assist you. The Church of St. Mary has an excellent reputation in the archdiocese for having very high quality liturgical music, and also has a long standing tradition of strong choral music. Please consider joining us so that we may continue to grow and flourish.

If you have any questions or would like to join us, please call John Chapman, Director of Music, at 847.582.2510, or email him at [email protected].

CHURCH OF ST. MARY HANDBELL CHOIR

The Handbell Choir will resume rehearsals on Tuesday, September 18 from 7:00pm – 8:00pm in the Community Room in the Church. The Handbell Choir rehearses from September through early June, and plays approximately once each month at weekend Masses and also for special occasions. Although the ability to read music is helpful, it is not a neces- sity. We currently have eight ringers, but ideally we could use twelve or more. The choir is open to those of high school age and above. Please consider joining us!

For more information please contact John Chapman, Director of Music at 847.582.2520, or at his email: [email protected]. We are in need of volunteers for this vital fundraising drive! We have 1 or 2 hour time slots for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We also need help after every Mass. To volunteer call Jeff Kowal at 630.235.3319 or September 14, 15, and 16 [email protected]

Individuals and families are encouraged to sign up and join the Greeters Ministry. Volunteering is simple, easy, and very convenient. You get to pick the door where you want to greet worshipers and you decide if you want to be inside the door or outside. It is that easy. Visit the parish website (churchofstmary.org), find the Greeters Ministry under the Ministries tab, and sign in on the Google™ doc. Come and join us to greet at the beginning of Mass.

For more information about this Ministry, please call Faith Favale (847.295.6979) or Jeanne Burke (847.295.8200).

Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer? Catholic Charities of Chicago is looking for volunteers to serve at our more than 150 locations helping improve the lives of the people we serve. For more information, visit us at: www.volunteerbridge.com, email [email protected] or call the Volunteer Relations department at 312.655.7322. Catholic Charities Meals on Wheels Drivers Needed Are you interested in helping seniors in your community? Catholic Charities partners with Meals on Wheels America® to provide a noontime meal for those who are homebound or unable to prepare their own food due to physical or mental difficulties. Many of our Meals-on-Wheels clients see only one person per day—our volunteers. Many of them would be unable to live independently without home-delivered meals. Volunteers are needed throughout Lake County, but the need is greatest right now in Mundelein, Wauconda, and Fox Lake. This is a great role for a group or individual who has a few hours once a week or once a month. Substitute and seasonal volunteers are needed as well!
