Welcome to the 9th edition of The St Botolph Building Newsletter.

British Summer Time has officially begun, and, despite no guaranteed sun, it is time to say goodbye to our winter wardrobe. We hope you had a lovely Easter break with your loved ones, enjoyed the Bank Holidays and started planning your summer getaways. Until then, London’s parks will do the trick, visit them to get a little bit of tan. Grab your flip flops, shorts and don’t forget to bring that book that has been waiting too long for you.

In this edition, you will get to meet a new member of the CBRE Building Management team, Anna Vine, who is now our new General Manager since April. Read more about Anna and other Building updates on pages 4 and 5.

On page 6 you can find out everything about the amounts raised for Save the Children Charity. We would like to say Thank you to all vendors who joined us in February, March and April and donated 10% of their sales. We look forward to working with them again in the future so that we can get involved and help together.

In addition to this, we have added a few new restaurants and bars to our promotion list. Check them out on page 14 and choose where to spend your lunch breaks from now on. Their most iconic truffles produced for decades are the Pink Marc De Champagne Truffles, followed closely by Milk and Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel. Theofanis Angelidis Electrical engineer Thessaloniki, Greece

How long have you been working for the company? I have been working in The St Botolph Building the past four years.

What are your duties and responsibilities in your job role? Being an engineer in The St Botolph building is a challenge but at the same time a privilege. My day starts with a smile and ends with one as I work in a striking, state of the art office building in the .

Tell us more about yourself ? I am from Thessaloniki, Greece but I moved with my family, my wife and my twin daughters to London four years ago. I studied Electrical engineering at the university in Greece and until I moved to London I had been working as a self-employed electrical engineer. Coming to live and work in London has been a dream that came true.

What about hobbies? I enjoy constructing small scale electronic projects and sightseeing in London.

Where are you planning to go for holidays this year? I am planning to visit Greece, in particular, a picturesque village by the sea called Afissos on mountain Pelion in the mainland of the country. TJX joining the Portico family New Uniforms for the Main Reception Team

The RoSPA Awards scheme receives entries from organisations around the world and recognises SHEQ- Safety, Health, Environment, Quality

Overall, it has been a successful year for the SHEQ Team with new additions and a designated Head of Department, giving us a dedicated team of four in the SHEQ Group.

Near Miss Reporting Near misses for 2017 has increased approximately 200% from 2016 . The reason for this is can be explained by two main points. Firstly, the conscious effort from the SHEQ Team to ensure the importance of reporting near miss incidents was communicated together with clear definition of what constitutes as a near miss. Secondly , and more importantly, the awareness of all IFM staff making the conscious effort to hazard spot and report the near misses when they occur. Without the help and awareness of the staff that work for IFM on sites, this would not have been possible – so a well done to all those that identify these instances. As a group, we now need to focus on the actions that arise from a near miss to ensure the near miss does not turn in to an incident causing ill health.

Change in Accreditor It was decided back in March that the company would change accreditor from BSi to LRQA. This was a very positive move and I believe in the long term with benefit Incentive in many ways. Both ISO 9001 and 14001 transfers were smooth and both certificates are valid until September 2018. The OHSAS 18001 required a full certificate renewal and was successfully completed in August with the current certificate valid for 3 years until 2020.

Introduction of HSE/Safety Alerts Late 2016/early 2017 saw the introduction of safety and HSE alerts released through the SHEQ Team. The safety alerts are cascaded through the business and highlight some key areas which have the potential to affect an individual site or business sectors and instructs on what we need to be doing. The HSE alerts identify prosecutions that the group can relate to either directly or indirectly. It has been a great way to get important information to the sites in relatively short amount of time.

Quarterly Campaigns The quarterly campaigns have been sent out to all the sites. Each of the campaigns for 2017 have focused on core health and safety subjects and what we need to be doing on site to comply with the relative legislation. The fourth and final campaign of 2017 is due to be sent out in early December and will cover the topic of Manual Handling.
