2008-2009 RECAP: Wisconsin placed sixth or better in five tour- naments, with its best finish being a second place at the St. Mary’s invitational in Pebble Beach, Calif., in September. Elsen, Obermueller and Woltman each finished among the top 11 and the Badgers finished just five strokes behind champion San Francisco. UW’s team scoring average of 295.53 is the fourth-best in school history. YOUNG TEAM: In the 2008-2009 season the Badgers were a senior- dominated squad as the quartet of Woltman, Danny Zimmerman, Tyler Obermueller and Pat Duffy combined to play 115 of the team’s 151 rounds (76.2 percent). Junior Jordan Elsen was the only non-senior to play in more than three events this season. Craig Cerbins will also be a top prospect for the Badgers after JORDAN ELSEN: UW’s lone underclassman to take a swing at more than three events during the 2008-2009 season, will come into the Fall season as the team’s leader. The Kenosha, Wis. native was Wisconsin’s top contender at the St. Mary’s invite in Pebble Beach, California where he placed third. He also placed second for the Badgers in The Landfall Tradition, Spring Break Championship and in the Big Ten Championships. Elsen competed for the Badgers in every event leading up to the NCAA Northeast Regional where Woltman was the only representative for the Badgers. BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS: Woltman led the Badgers with a four- round score of 291 to a tie for 10th place at University Park, Pa this past weekend. It was the 13th time in Woltman’s UW career that he has finished in the top 10 and his third top 10 in four spring events this season. Junior Jordan Elsen and senior Pat ABOVE: Dan Woltman, who graduated in 2009 and is shown above prac- Duffy were the next Badgers in line, both carding a score of 298 ticing with head coach Jim Schuman, became the first Badger in history to qualify for the NCAA tournament in consecutive seasons. to tie for 32nd. Zimmerman also ended in a tie, both carding a four-round score of 305 for a share of 45th place. The Badgers collective team score of 1183 (+47), put them in 10th-place to finish. Illinois, ranked 15th in the nation, claimed the Big Ten Champion title with a score of 1149 (+13). The top individual honor went to Northwestern’s Eric Chung. NCAA NORTHEAST REGIONAL: Woltman ended his UW career with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional in Galloway, N.J. Woltman shot a 4-over par 75 on Saturday in the final round to finish at 5-over (74-69-75=218) for the tournament. The total placed him one stroke out of a playoff for the lone individual qualifying spot in the NCAA Championships from the Northeast Regional and six strokes back of the individual medalist, Hunter Hamrick of Alabama. The top-10 finish was Woltman’s fourth in five spring events last season and his 14th in his UW career.
