The systematic taxonomy of three currently accepted species of Austrochloritis Pilsbry, 1891 from central eastern New South Wales (A. nundinalis Iredale, 1943, A. niangala Shea & Griffiths, 2010, and A. kaputarensis Stanisic, 2010) is revised based on comparative morpho-anatomy and mitochondrial phylogenetics. In addition, the status of two undescribed candidate taxa identified asAustrochloritis spp. NE3 and SN39, respectively, is assessed. These species and candidate species are closely related to the type species of the genus, Austrochloritis porteri (Cox, 1866) from southern Queensland based on a recently published mitochondrial phylogeny. Comparative analyses of shell and reproductive anatomy revealed that the members of the A. porteri clade exhibit a rather similar morphology overall. Based on subtle, yet consistent differences in shell and reproductive features, we consider A. nundinalis as an accepted species. The species A. niangala, A. kaputarensis, and NE3 are considered as synonyms of each other and preference is given to the name A. niangala by First Reviewers Choice. The candidate taxon SN39 represents a new species, which is herein described as Austrochloritis copelandensis sp. -

ZooKeys 952: 65–93. https://doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.952.52695 Abstract Land snail surveys conducted in northern Laos between 2013 and 2014 have led to the discovery of a liv- ing population of Trichelix horrida (Pfeiffer, 1863). This species has never been recorded from specimens other than the types, and its distribution and anatomy have remained essentially unknown. The genitalia and radula morphology are documented here for the first time and employed to re-assess the systematic position of this species: the unique morphological characters of T. horrida are a penis similar in length to the vagina, a small and triangular penial verge, gametolytic organs extending as far as the albumen gland, head wart present, and unicuspid triangular radula teeth. -

The species has a rounded, chubby-looking shell, usually with an orange to dark reddish brown colour, with a distinct sculpture (when seen under magnification) of thousands of tiny stubble-like bumps. Once believed extinct in Tasmania, the species was rediscovered on King Island in 1996. The main threats to the species include clearing of patches of scrub and forest habitat and wildfires. Management of the Southern Hairy Red Snail aims to maintain, improve and increase the extent and quality of the remaining habitat on King Island. Key Points Important: Is this species in your area? This species is eligible because i) the species has a highly restricted geographic range; ii) the habitat is severely fragmented iii) there are a number of threats affecting the habitat and mature individuals at all populations inferring continuing decline. Description and Taxonomy Meridolum maryae was described by Clarke (2009) as: “Shell. Subglobose, 10.3–16.3 mm in height, 14.8–19.2 mm in width. Spire moderately elevated. Aperture roundly ovate, height 7.2–10.9 mm, width 9.0–12.0 mm. Total number of whorls 4.7–5.5. Last teleoconch whorl rounded, or with slight angulation; height 9.1–13.3 mm. Teleoconch sculpture of fine to well developed growth lines (giving the shell a rough textured surface in older individuals), with weak to well developed pustules. Teleoconch periostracal sculpture of weak zigzag ridges with minor sculpture between major ridges. Protoconch sculpture strongly pustulose. Shell pale yellow to tan, to bleached white in older specimens, with small red umbilical patch and narrow red subsutural band. -

Biodiversity Summary for NRM Regions Guide to Users Background What is the summary for and where does it come from? This summary has been produced by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPC) for the Natural Resource Management Spatial Information System. It highlights important elements of the biodiversity of the region in two ways: • Listing species which may be significant for management because they are found only in the region, mainly in the region, or they have a conservation status such as endangered or vulnerable. • Comparing the region to other parts of Australia in terms of the composition and distribution of its species, to suggest components of its biodiversity which may be nationally significant. The summary was produced using the Australian Natural Natural Heritage Heritage Assessment Assessment Tool Tool (ANHAT), which analyses data from a range of plant and animal surveys and collections from across Australia to automatically generate a report for each NRM region. Data sources (Appendix 2) include national and state herbaria, museums, state governments, CSIRO, Birds Australia and a range of surveys conducted by or for DEWHA. Limitations • ANHAT currently contains information on the distribution of over 30,000 Australian taxa. This includes all mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs and fish, 137 families of vascular plants (over 15,000 species) and a range of invertebrate groups. Description Pommerhelix duralensis (the Dural land snail), also commonly known as the Dural woodland snail (Stanisic, 2010), is a medium sized snail with a dark brown to black semi translucent subglobose (almost spherical shaped) shell. Adults grow approximately 10–23 mm in height and 14–23 mm in width. The Dural land snail superficially resembles the related species Meridolum corneovirens (Cumberland Plain land snail), with which the Dural land snail is parapatric (the species’ ranges are immediately adjacent to each other but do not significantly overlap) (Clark, 2005). Distribution The Dural land snail is endemic to New South Wales, Australia. The species is a shale- influenced habitat specialist, which occurs in low densities along the northwest fringes of the Cumberland Plain on shale-sandstone transitional landscapes (Shea, 2001; Hornsby Shire Council, 2006; Clarke, 2009; Ridgeway et. al., 2014). The species is known to occur as far north as St Albans. -

Provisional List of Invertebrates Requiring Urgent Management
Australian Government Bushfire Recovery Package for Wildlife and their Habitat Provisional list of priority invertebrate species requiring urgent management intervention or on-ground assessment The 2019-20 fires of eastern and southern Australia have had severe impacts on many Australian animals and plants. Because there are far more invertebrate species than there are vertebrate or plant species, and many invertebrate species have very localised ranges, it is likely that the fires will have severely affected many more invertebrate than plant or vertebrate species. However, for invertebrate species, the severity of this impact can be challenging to assess, because distributional information is typically limited, there are few monitoring programs for invertebrates, there is limited information on the susceptibility of most invertebrates to fire, invertebrates are poorly represented on threatened species lists, and the conservation status of most invertebrate species is unknown. In order to help guide conservation responses, this report identifies 191 invertebrate species known or presumed to have been severely affected by the 2019-20 fires. This prioritisation is based mostly on spatial analysis of the extent of overlap between species’ distributional range and fire, with such analysis considering the following groups of Australian invertebrate species: • approximately 700 invertebrate species listed as threatened under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 or equivalent state and territory legislation or on the global IUCN Red List of Threatened Species • invertebrate species considered to be of concern by state and territory agencies and by some experts, because of fire impacts • some taxonomic groups likely to contain many fire-affected species. The analysis considered potential impacts from fires in southern and eastern Australian between 1 July 2019 and 24 February 2020 identified in the National Indicative Aggregated Fire Extent Dataset. -
Three New Species and Two New Genera of Land Snails from the Bonaparte Archipelago in the Kimberley, Western Australia (Pulmonata, Camaenidae)

Email: [email protected] Abstract The present work contains descriptions of new species and new genera of camaenid land snails from islands of the Bonaparte Archipelago in north-western Kimberley, Western Australia. The monotypic Kimberleydiscus n. gen., with its type species Kimberleydiscus fasciatus n. sp., is described from Bigge Island. The species is characterised by its discoid, banded and smooth shell and a peculiar penial anatomy, which includes dense pustulation of the inner penial wall, presence of a corrugated main pilaster, and a vas deferens that reflexes as an epiphallus and connects with the penial chamber through a pore. Kimber- leymelon n. gen. is also monotypic. Its type species, Kimberleymelon tealei n. sp., is endemic to Middle Osborn Island and characterised by its relatively large, highly turreted, almost trochiform shell with regular axial sculpture. The inner penial wall supports an undulating, corrugated main pilaster and dense pustulation. A new species, Carinotrachia admirale is described from Middle and Southwest Osborn Islands. Both islands support distinct morphs that differ slightly but consistently in shell shape and penial wall structure and are considered to form two subspecies, C. admirale admirale and C. a. elevata.
