5.11.1 DOWNTOWN BIKE NETWORK EXPANSION Richards Street: Water St to Robson St
Project Description
Richards Street was upgraded to a southbound parking-protected bike lane between Robson and Drake Streets in coordination with repaving in 2013. The northern connection from Water Street in Gastown remains a painted lane with no protection from vehicle traffic.
The Richards Street upgrade will extend the parking-protected design, with wider bike lanes and boarding islands at bus stops. Approximately 20% of the on-street parking spaces will be removed to provide right-turn lanes at intersections and improve visibility for all road users at driveway crossings.
