TV – File Delivery Specifications

BBC - TV Digital File Requirements Format Standard MXF (per below spec) or MOV File type (HD) in 16x9 FHA with 4x3 safe text/graphics. Note: We can accept other file types for delivery if compatible with BBC software/equipment. Ensure ALL onscreen text, logos and graphics vital to the message within the TVC are 4x3 safe, specifically small legal text/disclaimers which will result in compliance failure. It is not in the remit for BBC/GNL to check/correct material that is delivered with 4x3 unsafe text, logos and graphics. File Line Up Requirements MXF (DPP Delivery): 7 seconds of slate + 3 seconds of Black (No Audio) + Advertisement Footage (Exact footage in multiples of 5 seconds. Note: we can only allow a +/- 2 frames deficit, otherwise material will not be delivered for broadcast/re-send will be required) + 5 seconds of Black (No Audio) MOV/Other File Types: Exact duration of Advertisement/Footage EG: 30 seconds TVC must be delivered as 30 seconds TVC (Exact footage in multiples of 5 seconds. Video Format : ProRes Format profile : 422 (HQ) Bit rate : 100+ Mb/s approx. Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 25 FPS Scan type : Progressive or Interlace Scan order : Top Field First

We can accept Stereo with 2 channel (channel 1 = Left and channel 2 = Right).

Other File Types: We can accept other file types for delivery if compatible with BBC software/equipment and adhering as closely to the specifications mentioned above. Timecode MXF: Slate must start at 09:59:50:00 incorporating 7 seconds of slate + 3 seconds of black, so Advertisement footage starts exactly at 10:00:00:00 within file timecode. MOV/Other File Types: Preferably to start at 10:00:00:00 however this is not necessary. Audio MXF: Final audio must be 4 separate channels grouped (not single channels) in the following sequence:

CHANNEL 1 = LEFT CHANNEL 2 = RIGHT CHANNEL 3 = Silence CHANNEL 4 = Silence

ALL Audio must be -23 LUFS Audio Loudness (allowance deficit of +/- 0.9 LUFS).

MOV/Other File Types: -23 LUFS audio loudness or -10db to -18db. Material Deadline 5 working days prior to transmission (not Editorially complied) and 3 working days prior to transmission (Editorially complied)

Material Broadcasting in South Africa we advise 10 working days prior to transmission (not Editorially complied) and 7 working days prior to transmission (Editorially complied) File Delivery ALL files delivered must be clearly/accurately named per their delivery instructions/correspondence, failure to do so could affect material being received on time or considered as not being delivered.

Note - Download Links and Sites provided to BBC: It is NOT in the remit for the BBC/GNL to chase or find material, material must be clearly labelled and delivered if it is to be considered as ‘delivered for broadcast’. Editorial Compliance and Pre-Technical Editorial Compliance approval takes a minimum of 48 hours to Review for Advertising material process for a verdict, should material be escalated up to an Advertising Standards Guardian (ASG) this will take an extra 48 hours minimum for a verdict. Should the ASG escalate material further up to a Senior Advertising Standards Guardian (SASG) this will take an extra 48 hours minimum for a verdict.

We advise Clearcast approval to material being delivered for broadcast (provide reference should Clearcast approval have been obtained), but please note this does not guarantee BBC/Editorial Compliance approval for broadcast.

Provide any substantiation/documents relating to any claims within the material being delivered, should material not be Pre-compliance checked. We advise material is delivered for Pre-compliance checking and Pre-technical review to ensure prompt broadcast delivery and to help prevent delay to a campaign start.
