I starched and ironed the tablecloth and napkins, polished each glass, and set the table at least a day before the big event. I slavishly followed menus, trekking from store to store to find the exact ingredients. No recipe was too long, no meal too elaborate. In fact, I thrived on multistep dishes that required days of attention and care: puff pastry, layered pates and vegetable terrines, miniature sweet and savory tarts. I still love to have friends over, but something happened along the way. First one daughter was born, then a second. Part-time work evolved into a full-time job. Casual hobbies became passionate avocations. With all these activities fighting for my time, I had to change the way I cooked. My menus are simple and flexible now, and my parties mostly spur-of-the- moment. I love potlucks and shared suppers, and kids are always welcome. The food's fun, the atmosphere's casual, and family and friends always gravitate to the kitchen. -

Welcome in Restaurant Die Alde Heerlickheijt Here you will discover why “Limburgers” are known for their hospitality and gastronomic qualities. Choose from the rich menu that offers a variety of specialties. Our Chef de Cuisine, Johan Christiaan Reker, was inspired by the French cuisine with modern oriental influences. He uses the finest ingredients available in the beautiful region of “Limburg” such as cheeses from “Cheesefarm Mertens”, the cheeses are traditionally made from the milk of the 100 black and white cows grazing in the meadows of Kessel. The bread that we serve is “Pain de Campagne au Levain" a recipe that our chef brought from one of his former employers on the Côte d'Azur. The base for the recipe are fermented apples where we added rye flour dough to the main dough, also referred to as “levain”. After the addition of flour, water and salt, and the well-known kneading, our dough is baked fresh here, so you can enjoy it. Many of the herbs and flowers that we use in our dishes come from our herb garden, which is located in front of the castle and worth a visit! Our Service manager Anne-Marie van der Weerden has the finest wines selected for you by our wine suppliers. Let us surprise you by our Limburg wines from vineyard St.Martinus in Vijlen, a special wine company where oenologist Stan Beurskens is dedicated with passion to produce the finest wines with grapes from the province of Limburg. We wish you a nice dinner! Menu Gourmand Starters Maas, Rijn, Ijsel beef Palette ║ Silver skin onion ║ Truffle ║ Artichoke Or Salmon,
