Accordingly, this study sought to determine whether service quality differences among ships operating in the Asian market could suggest broader implications for the sustainability of the cruise industry. We chose the SERVQUAL framework for the analysis; we also employed the multiple case study method and topic synthesis to compare the service quality of three ships. Of the ships investigated—the Costa Victoria, Diamond Princess, and Superstar Virgo—the Diamond Princess had the highest service quality. Based on the results, we outlined suggestions for improving the quality of cruise services, including introducing the latest large ships and high-tech facilities, complying with the departure and arrival times of sailing schedules, improving the ratio of crew members per passenger, establishing a cruise personnel training system, and expanding membership program operations. Please note this isn’t a complete listing of media articles but a snapshot only. 29 March, 2020: PASSENGERS TRANSFERRED FROM VIRUS-STRICKEN CRUISE SHIP OFF PANAMA Passengers on a virus-stricken cruise liner stranded off Central America were transferred to another ship Saturday, after the US-bound vessel was given permission to pass through the Panama Canal. The Zaandam had been stuck in the Pacific Ocean since March 14 after dozens of the 1,800 people on board reported flu-like symptoms and several South American ports refused to let it dock. The ship's Dutch owner Holland America said Friday four passengers had died and two more had tested positive for COVID- 19. Panama on Saturday reversed its decision to block the Zaandam from its canal, and said it would be allowed to pass "to provide humanitarian help." Another ship, the Rotterdam, has since arrived off the coast of Panama from San Diego carrying food, medical staff, testing kits, medicine and food for the beleaguered vessel. Passengers showing no signs of the virus were ferried from the Zaandam to the Rotterdam on Saturday, a French tourist told AFP by telephone. "It's like emptying a bathtub with a teaspoon," she said. "The boats can hold about 100 people, and they are putting about half in at a time. That's why it's going slowly." The Zaandam cruise liner left Buenos Aires on March 7 and was supposed to arrive two weeks later at San Antonio, near Santiago in Chile. -

27 June 2019 Olympians and Olympic hopefuls converge in Napoli for 30th Summer Universiade THE BIGGEST MULTI-SPORT EVENT FOR UNIVERSITY ATHLETES GETS UNDERWAY ON 3 JULY NAPOLI, Italy – Olympians and world champions – past, present and future ones – from around the world will compete at the Summer Universiade 2019, set to take place in Naples, Italy from 3-14 July. Nearly 6,000 student-athletes from 112 countries will descend on the capital city of the Campania region for twelve days of scintillating sport, in what is one of the most highly anticipated events on this year’s sporting schedule. The largest delegation, expectedly, is from the host country of Italy that will be fielding 301 competitors, closely followed by the United States and Russia. The 12-day event features student-athletes under the age of 25 competing in 222 medal events across 18 summer sports including archery, athletics, basketball, diving, fencing, football, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, judo, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball and water polo. There are 1247 competing in athletics alone, and 649 swimmers on the roster. This year’s event features three new sports on the Summer Universiade programme including rugby sevens, sailing and sport shooting. For the first time in multi-sport event history, part of the Athletes’ Village will be on board two cruise ships – about 4,000 athletes and officials will be lodged on board the MSC Lirica and Costa Victoria luxury liners. The two grand ships will be docked at the Naples cruise ship terminal Stazione Maritima from 27 June to 16 July, providing an exclusive residence to the Universiade delegates just a stone’s throw from the city centre, train station, main stadium and many competition venues. -
