Evening meals in bar/restaurant Family break away from covid shite. We didn't want to see any perspex screens, sanitizer, distancing or new normal bollox. We booked a private bungalow we stayed in before off a nice family in Durrow. Spent the week with no news and only ventured into places that had no poxy stickers on the floor, or shouting at people for not wearing masks that don't do a damn thing to protect anyone. A holiday away from covid is what was important to my family.
Children activities & food options close by with possibility if eating in room
it was a house and we wanted to share with another small family (friends) and have outdoor play space for toddler

Question-* What type of accommodation are you considering? Check all that apply.
Answer-Other -
Staying with family
Our wedding anniversary is in November and we are considering wether we should go alone as a couple or bring kids and go somewhere family oriented. We staycationed the last 6 years because the kids were small and we didn't want to fly with them. This was the first year we were going to go abroad, didn't book it, booked CentreParks instead, they canceled on us.

Question-* When booking your hotel of choice, what would be important to you?
Answer-Something else -
Location, atmosphere
Dog friendly only being considered.
Previous stay in the hotel e.g Kilronan Castle
Pet friendly All of the above
Observing travel restrictions from other countries
The location is central to other attractions
I've stayed on the hotel before, I know they're a lovely hotel and I trust that they've the appropriate measures in place
Good food offering
location, local attractions
Very obviously kid welcoming - good price breakfast
Cost of food & drink
Location
Level of restrictions on restaurant/bar time
good restaurant Outdoor facilities close by eg hill/ mountain walks, cycles, areas of scenic beauty, some children activities, afternoon teas etc.
When we couldn't go more than 2km from our house, Keelings flew in a plane from Bulgaria full of cheap labour to pick fruit with no self isolation with Simon Coveneys approval. Our pubs are closed but you won't catch a virus if you eat a €9 toasted sandwich, announced today we can fly to Germany but not leave Dublin and tourists can fly into Dublin airport and go wherever they like. Wear a mask, don't wear a mask, keep records for 28 days of food orders. When booking a hotel, I want normal, not new normal or abnormal, I want a no covid, coronavirus, virus, masks, yellow crappy signs up everywhere I look. I want my family to forget all their problems, relax and spend quality time doing activities, the same as we always have before the government went doolally power mad.
To have a drink when I feel like it not be dictated to about when and if and all of the above
Yes
Question-In your own words, please tell us about your Summer vacation experience
Answer- -
We had a wonderful 3 days away , accommodation was fab . Weather wasn't great but what can you do about that . Every where we went staff were extremely friendly and all the places we ate the food was delicious. The only downside was the expense, considering we only stayed 2 nights and no travel costs except for diesal it cost us close to 1500 thats a lot of money to spend in 2 nights 3 days !!
Covid didn't take away from the experience. Family trip
Stayed in both hotels before. Enjotable experience however not value for money. Wonderful week by the sea in a private villa in Cobh
Had hospital appointment and stayed in hotel previous night was different
I stayed in one of your hotels but I was highly unsatisfied about your cleanliness Of the restaurant area of the hotel. Too many people. Buffet when there shouldnʼt have been one. Rude chefs, staff running like headless chickens. Not organised too many people too busy. For the times we are in now
Enjoyed my staycation always have some part of holidays in Ireland
Very enjoyable
Fun but expensive
Very good value for money
Short 3 day trip to Dublin. Shopping very comfortable on Grafton Street, but too many people on Henry Street and Dundrum. Visited National Gallery of Ireland and found it safe and enjoyable with comfortable numbers. Also visited Guinness Storehouse and was happy with same. Most restaurants were able to take us as walk ins as we had not pre booked, albeit we dined indoors rather than outdoors as a result. Overall enjoyed the break. Hotel very well run and very comfortable.
Really enjoyed it
Due to Covid I didnʼt go on my annual summer vacation We have holidayed in Ireland for many years and currently have no real interest in going abroad. We head to Inishmore every year and have no plans to change our destination. We love the island, the people, the scenery, the tranquility, the food and the prices.
Tainted with high prices mediocre service and a drop in food quality (in a 4**** hotel. Seems they are after the lost profits
Great to visit Westport and support local businesses and the Irish tourist industry. No issues with public health.
We spent a couple of nights in West Cork in Eccles hotel right after lockdown finished We felt very welcome and safe due to high standards and friendliness of staffWe have recommended it to our friends many of whom went there too We also spent a night in Kilkenny castle again very welcoming and high standard of COVID hygiene We then spent 1night inClonganny House Wexford Fabulous .We found (1) the welcome is very important to put people at ease and also maintain high standards of hygiene ,distancing etc but in a subtle way Very important to be able to have a drink as a hotel guest when you feel like it not to feel like “a boarding school” as a friend of ours found his hotel break ,being dictated to when and if you could have a drink . If we had experienced that I would have left .
Non
Lovely to discover the beauty that Ireland has to offer.
Value for Money is hard to find. packages are basic when they appear cheap.
I didn't have one! I had to go back to work!
I stayed in Loughrynn Castle for 2 nights and it was fabulous. The staff and attention to detail was next to none and the food was spectacular Haven't had any. Have a newborn baby but didn't feel safe enough to travel anywhere, even in Ireland.
Different due to Covid restrictions. Hotel was fine but atmosphere missing in feberal
Very expensive and weather wasn't great
Excellent
well,we went to riverside hotel, mucross road in killarney, when we arrived a little early,we had to wait ,no where to eat,and told to come back.that night we booker dinner in bar,and were asked to leave, but we could stay in lounge, but were never told we couldnt get another drink,we felt like children .lights were dimmed at 10 o clock./////.worse was to come, the following night in the dining room, the food was terrible for the price, and we were refused entry into the bar,as we hadnt booked, god help us we had been in dining room, why in gods name should we book both.we were looking forware to the break, but didnt realise we were back in school.very disappointed, and wouldnt stay there again.other gueste were also disgusted to,
A nice night away
Stayed in Shannon Esturay in Clare we visited Scattery Island, went walking in the Burren and also the cliffs in Kilkee we ate in the accomadation in the evening and in pubs/restuarants during the day. A very relaxing holiday. My 2nd holiday was visiting my sister on the Derry coast near Castlerock. We went for forest walk and down to the sea as well as eating out at the point restaurant at Mgilligon point
We really enjoyed our staycation, in many ways it was a lot less stressful (no airport rush etc!) It was a family wedding we made a few days of it, it was nice when the weather was nice.. Spent quality time with the family and played with my daughter
Havenʼt taken it yet hope to enjoy some sunshine and relaxing moments
Opened my eyes to more places around Ireland well worth visiting.
Wonderful weather made all the difference. Great to see everywhere so busy.
Sanitising social distancing etc all in place and reassuring. Accommodation and food excellent. Staff friendly and helpful.
Relaxung, time to self exploring own country. Supporting irish
Good holiday but the price of accomodation was very high
very enjoyable experience. lovely country when the sun shines
When we went to Waterford it was the first week after lockdown. Dublin being the 'epicentre' meant everywhere we went with our Dublin accents people stepped back away from us. My kids are 6 and 9 years old and my 9 year old in particular was noticebly stressed by the covid restrictions, particularly as her communion was cancelled. We thoroughly enjoyed our outdoor pursuits with the good weather but the yellow signs everywhere and screens and masks are a major off put for us. Holiday are suppose to be relaxing, it is not relaxing to be reminded everywhere you turn to wash your hands, wear your mask, keep your distance. Hardly cead mile failte is it? We look for hotels that have outdoor facilities for our little one e.g playground. Walks and a good swimming pool. The only downfall was having to book slots for pools and restaurants you are held to a time schedule which Is hard to keep to with a little one in tow.
Mixed bag of hotels and mixed bag of weather! Prices are too expensive.
We have an undiscovered island. Prices still high though.
Stayed at Lough Rynn and thought it was wonderful
It was nice to get away post lockdown. Change of scenery
Prices need to be reduced if we want people to stay at home
Cruising the river shannon with family. 5 boat, 5 families. Social distancing no problem. Great time had by all, despite the Irish weather.
good
It is worrying when moving out of own environment but we take care not to socialise where crowds are congregating
Very enjoyable with a nice hotel and lovely weather. Plenty of things to see and do.
It was enjoyable but would not have done it if could travel abroad safely Enjoyable
It was weird, where we booked tiwn wasnt really opened ,hotel had to book activities, and meal times .couldn't just go into bar for a drink as being a resident we taugh it was ok to fdo
Loved visiting so many of Ireland's scenic areas doing the greenways, slieve league. We visited 4 counties, 3 hotel stays and 1 airbnb and enjoyed them all as did everyone else we spoke to. Feel hotels were slightly expensive though compared to going abroad.
Non existant
It was fab. We toured kerry and Cork in our caravan. We are a small young family of 4. We had amazing weather. Cant wait to.go again next year. Bike and walks and
My wifes 50th was in March so we could not celebrate at the time because of restrictions. So e used the staycation as the chance to celebrate this.
Survey doesnʼt give enough options,we visited Mayo Wicklow and Belfast two nights in a four star hotels in each instance. All were positive experiences with Belfast giving the best value for money due to government initiative with great reductions for eating out midweek most restaurants were booked out every night. Our government did not do enough to encourage tourism with tax breaks not coming in in time for family breaks.
Ireland is too expensive
Bad weather. Didnʼt go anywhere
The hotel was well prepped and had good hygiene practices in place while still being relaxed enough to allow us to have a drink in peace and enjoy our holiday. I have heard of others who had to stay in their rooms unless eating and then were charged a room service charge if they ordered anything.
4 days in Ireland for a family of 5 cost more than 2 weeks in Spain, the will never staycate again once we can travel abroad
We worked on our garden and took lots of country walks. Done lots of baking and eating
Planning a few short breaks in the coming montgs
we stayed in dingle for 4/5 days at the skellig hotel which we have been going to for 21 yrs, everything was well organised and Graham ( manager ) and his staff were in control of all situations as he runs an excellent hotel.we are always more than satisified with our stay there hence 21yrs and looking forward to no 22.In a normal year we would would stay there twice a year but it wasnt to be this year.
Very happy with my staycation
Lovely hotel, great facilities but too expensive
My family and I stayed in the Clayton Whites hotel in Wexford and we had a lovely time. We felt safe there. We would definitely stay in the hotel again Going for a 2 night stay in the Maratime e hotel Bantry.
It was good but atmosphere was lacking in the bar area
Wonderful
Felt I had no break from work and stressful and tiring Summer.
Fantastic
Ireland is a beautiful country and there are no shortages of places to visit. I love exploring off the beaten track and finding quiet places to stay.
Fantastic, lovely to get away, got decent weather and lots to do and see
Enjoyed a stay in Leitrim
Ireland has the most beautiful mix of scenery weather and food, something to suit everyone. People are warm and friendly, despite the weather there is still a lot to see and do, beautiful walks, hikes, cycling, golf courses etc. There is a great variety of hotels offering great value all over the Country.
in quarantine
I throughly enjoyed this Summer enjoying what our lovely country has to offer. Nice to get away. But didnʼt feel like a holiday
We stayed in the Cavan Crystal and felt very safe and secure. Covid precautions were excellent.
We had a great time in Cork, great restaurants, lots to do, places to visit. We found eating out expensive, but quality of food excellent. Having to have everything booked in advance was a bit of a chore and I would have preferred a more relaxed itinerary. Overall a very positive holiday . I am looking forward to some mini breaks in Ireland over next few months.
My count was on lockdown for more that half of my 2 week A/L so I was not happy . I had a week in July and went to my home county down the country for a few days then to see family and friends as I was working all the time in Disability Support Service for the Daughters of Charity we work 24 /7 so could have done without the second lockdown so all in all not a great staycation
Simply class
We went away with family for a long weekend. It was wonderful to be all together safe. It was I thought a bit expensive for my husband and myself we are pensioners.
We had a great time, lots to see and do. However, your enjoyment is very weather dependent in Ireland.
Didnʼt have one
Over priced for mediocre accommodation and dreadful food.
Good. Better weather and prices needed for Ireland A welcome break in strange times
It was lovely got the weather which made a high difference
Thoroughly enjoyed it
We needed a relaxing short break to charge our batteries after all that covid brought for all of us - Iʼm a medic with the ambulance service so times have been quite stressful at times so a wee break was definitely what was needed. Our break satisfied all our expectations, it was relaxing and invigorating. We had a lovely break
Didnʼt have a breakaway stayed at home. Would enjoy A breakaway before the year end.
Sorry havenʼt had it yet, but I would like to just take a book, sit myself down, glass of red, peace and quiet and read
The hotel did not enforce government guidance with regards to social distancing and face masks etc. This made me feel very uncomfortable and I could not wait to check out. This was a different hotel, Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny
Plaza Hotel killarney... Stuffy hotel very plastic... Vanilla experience
There is nothing better than Ireland for holidays!
It was brilliant apart from the weather The weather in ireland puts me off. Also the price and food is to expensive It was a fabulous experience I think we often take Ireland for granted, my family and I tend to go abroad every summer we can but this was a lovely trip
With the weather being generally fine, holidaying in Ireland is a wonderful experience. Regrettably, we cannot depend on the weather, so going abroad will always be an option (pandemic permitting).
Nice but expensive and found it difficult to book anywhere in August
Overall hotels have made great efforts to accommodate hotel guests whilst also keeping to high standards of hygiene. Can't quite understand the government's decision on having to have a substantial meal in order to have a drink however I understand the need to curb some of the drinking culture.
We rented a house as it was cheaper then a hotel
weather was bad, spanish point and lahinch beach have little sand, mostly rocks (didn't know this) not suitable for kids and elderly with us, acc was 850 for 2 nights, potholes on private road to house led to car damage of €900- was nice to be with family but would choose wiser next time. Govt Scheme is ridiculous, only claim coz I can- but not an incentive to go as such.
If you could guarantee the weather there was more than enough to see and do in Ireland with 2 small children
Great environment by the sea, lots of things to do and places to explore, very relaxing, nice to explore parts of Ireland we haven't been to before.
I no longer live in Ireland, but in Berlin. I just stayed here all summer, but I was really sad I couldnʼt visit Ireland again, as I hoped to visit Mohill again. It seems risky to book a flight anywhere because if your return flight is cancelled or postponed, youʼll be out of pocket with expenses abroad. Super time travelling around west cork despite all the restrictions, the scenery made up for it.
Brilliant
Stayed at Loughrynn for two nights in August. Excellent staff. Enjoyed every minute. Felt completely safe and well looked after.
Reassuring , relaxing , peaceful
Good value rate in luxury hotel for accommodation Very expensive Spa and Restaurant
A plesent stay in Ireland where i got to see the sites right on my doorstep. Kerry and Killarney is such a beautiful place to visit and i cant wait to go back.
We have a beautiful country but itʼs very expensive to stay & eat out
Overpriced/hotel very shabby
We stayed in a few hotels over a 2 week period and observed the measures put in place with regard to COVID. This is how we decided which hotels were compliant and definitely worth revisiting.
Didn't go on any We cancelled trip to Disneyland Florida. Also cancelled hotel break in Dublin as we didn't feel it would be enjoyable.
No vacation
Family break that was very relaxing and enjoyable given the existing restrictions.
I did not travel anywhere during summer. Besides the country being on lockdown, my county also went into lockdown. So I stayed at home.
We postponed a trip to Poland and went to Fermanagh for 4 nights and enjoyed very much.
Different but enjoyable
We went in August and we happened to be lucky with the weather so everything seemed nice. Good food and nice friendly people.
Lough Eske castle was amazing, staff friendly, breakfast excellent. The scenery in Donegal was stunning, my First visit but not my last.
I really enjoy heading off to Spain and looking forward to going on 11th November for a week. We find we get great value while going
They were great We visited Spanish Point - I was a bit apprehensive by we were to stay 3 night and ended up staying 5 - beautiful place - restaurant on site - went sight seeing - lovely weather - would definitely like to go back - lovely staff and owners - restaurant very good - apartment very comfortable - ate in restaurant 3 nights - Red Cliff Lodge
Hotel was very disappointing
Somewhat nervous initially but staff are very well trained and offer a good level of reassurance
Boring
Lovely holiday. Stayed in Kerry for 3 nights. Hotel was good for the kids as had a pool
Very quiet. It is a shame the weather couldnʼt be better for us. The weather certainly stops a lot of outdoor activities such as the beach, walks in the lovely countryside and our mental health.
Zero, nothing, zilch
VERY EXPENSIVE
Didnt really have a chance to take one, due to a massive work load, but it was lovely to visit friends
bolf break at home rather than abroad Very enjoyable Family rented house in south kerry8 people. 46th year same location
Authentic and demonstrated authentic irish friendliness
Day trips only. Eat in restaurants, including 2 hotel restaurants.
lovely time
stayed at home. Autumn breaks shortly.
I stayed at home never left the house for a month then started goin in for shopping nothing new except now I'm wearing a mask while shopping I suppose it was the most boring summer staycation in our 38 years of married life. I think not dressing up was the saddest part of it never got to wear my usual summer dresses and go somewhere. But at least we are still alive and we have a lot to be thankful for please God we will be back to normal next year and then we just might get away be nice the say a change is as good as a rest that's it stay safe xx
Difficult time particularly not being able to see grandchildren, and walking group cancelled form the foreseeable future.
It was non-existant. Trip to Malta postponed until next year, camping over-priced and not much available for tents(only caravans and motorhomes with own facilities), Rail trip through France postponed until next year.
Unfortunately my summer break was with Lough Rynn and I had to cancel as my father passed away. Thankfully I've rebooked for October 2nd and myself and my wife can not wait for our stay at Lough Rynn. Regards Owen
Was good we enjoyed our break s Worst hotel experience ever.
Went North as hotels in South increased their prices
It was relaxing in such times we are having
We went to Belfast for one night, thatʼs it
Grt break relaxing
We had an excellent experience. Saying that we stayed in a 5 star hotel as it was for our minimoon so we were not conscious of cost and just wanted a great experience. We definitely got that!
enjoyable and we have an amazing country, cost is always a problem when holidaying at home. Early booking essential to get reasonable prices
Relaxing holiday in a safe environment, with activities that you are unlikely to catch Covid 19
It was ok we found all hotels we stayed in were completely different in the way they they implemented COVID19 policies and we also found staff especially at reception very unhelpful and we had to constantly ask for information. We have always stayed in Ireland in hotels and we have always found staff friendly and helpful but since reopening after COVID this has changed completely.
We had a fantastic Staycation Beautiful house in Donegal, beautiful scenery, lucky with the weather. But very poor valuecompared to Spain, France or Italy. Food is very disappointing, a major part of my holiday. Expensive and very poor standard. Ridiculous that we have the best fish and seafood in the workd, yet it's exported and we were served up frozen crap at inflated prices.
Can't wait for a break away.
.
Enjoyable
We stayed in Hotels, an airbnb and camped during the summer and will be doing it again next year.
It was a bit sad. Rural Ireland is decimated. without Golf or Walking there is very little freedom to wander, browse, drop in for a cuppa. I think it is ridiculous that bars are not fully opened and that fitting rooms in clothes shops are not available
Myself and my wife stayed 4 days in a very good hotel and enjoyed excellent food
We hired a fabulous renovated cottage in Annagry, Donegal with a great outdoor fire pit and BBQ. Only a 5 - 15 minute drive to the many local beachʼs so the kids were in the water every day. The local people and staff at hotel/restaurants were lovely. The scenery was outstanding and we would definitely go back.
Being over 70, initially, my husband and I only went outdoors to do shopping and went for walks. Later my husband played golf and in the last few weeks we went for short car drives on Sundays. Other than that we just caught up with house projects Hotel & location excellent but we did not feel Covid comfortable. Hotel accommodation staff were not wearing masks or PPE. Most hotel residents were not wearing masks in hotel.
Stayed in the Talbot in Stligorgan, excellent deal from Your hotels & are travelling to kenmare on Monday for two nights with your 2 for the price of one deal. Brilliant value for money
Great, except for the weather.
Thankfully I was lucky to own mobile in rosslare many of my friends couldnʼt book hotels etc due to no vacancies or price
We had a house by the beach with nothing to do and all day to do it eating out was very controlled and we felt very safe
Didnʼt have one. Supposed to have a week in west cork next week but we are being asked not to go & level 3 will probably come in anyway
Didnʼt have one. As previously stated
Wonderful break. Accommodation was disappointing as I had to clean the house before I felt safe there. Otherwise staying at home was perfect.
A wonderful stay in two fabulous hotels in Dublin.. The Merrion and Sandymount Hotel.
A delight in Ashford Castle but cold n wet! Good
I did not take a summer vacation
I had one staycation with Select Hotels in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon and I really enjoyed the 3 nights there with my wife.
Short break of 2 nights Anything longer too expensive Prices hiked up to make up for loss of earnings
Really enjoyable, great hotel and restaurant. Government should have reduced vat to zero.
It was wonderful to have the family enjoy our time of relaxation at last Looking forward to another break from home & cooking
Proud to stay in Ireland
We visited a new hotel in Cork for a short break. The hotel was immaculate, the restaurant and bar was practicing social distancing and the quality of food was fantastic. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, while wearing the appropriate PPE too.
West cork is a fabulous place to visit
Alright, prefer to go somewhere for nice weather, Ireland is OK but weather undependable and everything expensive compared to abroad Excellent in Wicklow and Glenbeigh apart from the weather
Went to the sunny south east for a few days
I enjoyed several short breaks this summer.
Relaxed and comfortable
Brill
A great opportunity to visit a place Iʼd never been to. Loved the experience - the scenery, restaurants. Weather was glorious which helped enormously!
Great to see Ireland
Great to rediscover our wonderful beautiful country.
Stayed in Loch Rinn..brilliant
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ireland and look forward to more breaks
Stayed in the Silver Tassie. WOnderful hotel I was a bit apprehensive about going to the caravan site but I was absolutely delighted with the way it was ran. The sanitizing that was available and the way they made sure everything was done in line with the government recommendation was excellent.
we went on a number of mini breaks in our caravan and hotel stays.
Great experience, Ireland is a beautiful country. The Government should have given a rebate for summer staycations.
Enjoyable. Good food options.
Very good and very clean - very good covid protocols
Everything was excellent except for one thing. We had dinners included and had 105minutes for that. However we couldn't go for a drink in the bar, even as residents.
A nice family holiday
Brilliant. The beauty of Ireland was visible.
No experience
It was a lovely hotel and nice break and covid 19 protocol in place throughout, however, its just not same as going abroad to the sun. Its more expensive in Ireland and cannot depend on weather. very happy with hotels we stayed in and felt safe
Had a pleasant stay in Nesbitt Arms Ardara
Had a 3 night break in Killarney, good hotel with good food
Great value with Select Hotels & also very impressed with covid 19 precautions in Aran Islands Hotel & all over Inishmore
Hotel was a joke
Outdoor activities, surf camp for kids
Very good
We choose a quiet location in Galway - found a beautiful home that we rented for ourselves. Highly enjoyable and felt a lot safer than a hotel
I always take holidays here as ive young children and don't like travelling through airports with them. I think there is enough here for us to see and do. The only thing im not Happy about is a table of 6 as usually more in our group.
We like lough rynn
Stayed in the Falls for 4 nights, fantastic hotel and staff. Felt very safe there Very enjoyable
The Summer of 2020 will always be the summer that never happened. Nothing but rules and regulations, garda checks etc, no sport , or entertainment. I would personally rather stay at home and chillax than engage in this world. I refuse to spend on accessories holidays, breaks, while restrictions are in. If this is the new world pubs and hotels are finished for good.
Really enjoyed it as felt safe so could relax
Wide variety of social distancing practices. Traveled “with an American accent” and were seldom challenged regarding 14-day Isolation. Enjoyed our staycation but were disappointed regarding COVID response
Different but it was still enjoyable as there was cabaret every night.
very good!
Due to Covid19 we did not go on any break in Ireland this summer. We wanted to stay safe, stay local and protect ourselves
I always travel within Ireland so I knew what to expect.
Super accommodation and also self catering lodges. Great time being able to golf daily, weather was kind.
A highly enjoyable 2 week stay in Waterford..starting and finishing with a nights stay in the Fitzwilton. Galway & Inis Mór 2 night stay with my son
Area was lovely
I dont know in the future
booked a self catering cottage in dingle and loved it. Was a little pricey but worth it in the end as great location and facilities
Perfect except for no drinks but that was not the fault of the hotel
It was great to get away and to help irish buisneses at these strange times and loved the scenery and really enjoyed seeing part of our beautiful country that we haven't seen before.
Spent a week travelling to a couple of different hotels and was very happy to see the level of hygiene and the effort being made to keep us all safe
No vacation this year .
Enjoyed planning others staycation.
Lovely week with family self catering by the seaside with unusually good weather in county Clare Non existent!!
with family/getting away with a change of scenery was great.
Nice break visiting Irish attractions but Hotel Was very poor
It was really relaxing and the staff was very friendly and did their best to make you feel good, safe and welcome... Great experience
Not value for money
Bit boring
Very clean hotel, felt very safe
Rejuvenated And very enjoyable
We stayed in a remote but delightful AirBnB cottage , surrounded by walks and beautiful scenery
Love staying in Ireland
At home! Getting into a routine, home cooking, a bit more wine and too much TV! Lovely break in Ballycotton Glanvoe hotel. Excellemt
Looking forward to getting away in October forba few days with hubby who is recovering from prostate cancer treatment
Took my daughter and we stayed on one of families farm near Bridlington in East Yorkshire. We did days trips to
You know it is what it is, people complaining and moaning while the worlds in a spin, parents pushing the kids out the door before they need to crack another bottle of adult fizz. Adapting is how we win this war with covid. Peace my brothers & sisters and keep fighting the fight and big shout out to my boy batman who just came down with the bug.
I have had to cancel our weekend away starting 19th Sept and I am so disappointed as I care for my elderly mother every weekend and this was my husband and I first weekend together since March 2020. We had booked to go to Galway for 3 days and I made the decision to cancel yesterday before the Government's announcement that Dublin will go to Level 3 as hotel advised me that we would be charged for Sat night if I only cancelled today ( friday)
Excellent opportunity to see parts of the country what otherwise would have kept putting on the long finger
Nice breakaway but weather was not good and can ruin a staycation
BEAUTIFUL HOTEL FRIENDLY STAFF BUT IT COST TOO MUCH
Brilliant beautiful places to see food great
Home in Virginia USA No value for money to be had in Ireland. Hotels do not offer good value for families. Food and drink costly also.
Excellent
Let Irish hotels realise that visitors will always remember being ripped off with prices for meals.and drinks which happens consistently and then such hotels whine about loss of custom and blame Govt policy but never ever themselves, the real culprits.
Enjoyed but it rained most of the time and reminded us why we usually go abroad - to be sure if good weather. We usually only holiday in UK for short breaks
Fabulous to staycation Iʼm glad I stayed in the country
Did not have one yet. Felt is would be too busy during summer. Hop
Safe enjoyable experience
It wasn't great. I found the restrictions around eating and drinking very inconvenient. Also we were very unlucky with the weather. It rained the whole time, lots of places were closed, restaurants and bars booked out.
It was good nice and peaceful and wud like a nice break away
Stayed in the twelve hotel in Barna and dined one night in the hotel and the other in O Gradys on the pier Had a fantastic staycation We had a lovely break in Wexford as we were blessed with good weather and our accommodation was beside the beach so all good.
I think itʼs possible to do both staycation and a quick visit abroad as well if rules allow.
Great fun the weather wasnʼt great though
Not safe, no social distancing, terrible experience, too expensive by far
Lovely relaxed family time
Didnʼt go anywhere due to COVID and health risks involved.
I didnʼt have one this year
Unfortunately there was no experience. We stayed home the whole time.
Working, golfing & walking for miles
I have always loved holidaying in Ireland but find it very expensive
Didnʼt go yet The worst I have had in my Liveing memory. My visits to loch Ryan Castle were always to events orginised by your other customers. Always extremely enjoyable! I worked in Ireland when at school and on leaving school was employed by a person based in Dublin but home was Drumshambo Co. Letrium and still have a love of that Co. and people.
Enjoyed garden visits in Wexford
Overpriced accommodation and poor quality although friendly staff and everyone trying their best
Relaxed, clean & sanitised surroundings, staff wearing PPE, had a fab spa break
Enjooyed Roses Pointing Sligo and Donegal And Derry and Belfast.
Excellent value, staff wearing ppe food excellent feeling safe
It was fine weather bad..not the same ..working all through lock down ..we need the break ...
Didn't go anywhere but enjoyed the beautiful weather we got for 3 months. Sat in the garden on a lot of days, otherwise stayed within a 2km radius for mostly all of the Summer and still not moving far, except to drive patients to hospital appointments. Hope to perhaps have a night away in a hotel later 2020 or Spring 2021
I did not yet have one Lonely.
We had a wonderful exp in donegal.. Everything felt more normal than we thought itbwould be.. Everyone kept to their own space.. Hotel felt safe
Itʼs welcoming but expensive
Wonderful family short break to Ballyferriter Co Kerry
I haven't been on a Summer vacation this year.
i took breaks in 2 hotels, 1 enniscrone a total disaster, i did not feel safe or comfortable, other in ballina 100%
We had a fantastic relaxing and peaceful experience and will return.
As I am travelling next week I am unable to avail of the government tax incentive.
Not to bad
Fantastic
Wild Atlantic Way from Ballina to Clifden. Chose B&Bay to try and support small local businesses A few days away from everything.
Question-In your own words, please tell us about your Summer vacation experience
We have been away 3 times since July. The first was to a guesthouse in Donegal - it was awful , they had hand sanitiser but that was it. We left feedback. The 2nd was to an Airbnb in Co Down. It was sp
Question-In your own words, please tell us about your Summer vacation experience
Great break short journey no hassle
It was great to get away from the house where I was also working from home
We just went for a family hotel break on the 29th of June for 2 nights to Bloomfield Hotel and it was brilliant. We then when to an Airbnb house in Carnlough at the end of August for two nights and it was great to get away from all the Covid madness
Hotel was fab and so clean. The covid restrictions were very well managed. People were constantly cleaning without making a fuss. Fab weekend.
We had a lovely break in Kerry - self catering. We also enjoyed a number of meals out
We always like to get a few days away, just getting away from home this year was amazing I have worked daily since covid. I had no summer holiday.
Restful at home
Relaxing / enjoyable /
I felt that there was no atmosphere in the chosen hotel, whether this was due to no entertainment, or limited entertainment. Its awkward to have to book swim times etc
It was lovely , nice weather , nice location but still pricey
Stayed in both a rental property quite isolated, which felt very save, then 3 nights is a hotel we previously stayed in over 5 years ago, very quite at the hotel, felt very safe.
Not quite the same but nice for a change of scenery.
We did not travel
Self-catering, house in Carlingford for extended family group of 12 people.
It was a little less relaxed with covid restrictions but we didn't allow it to spoil the holiday We traveled to Kenmare and had a lovely few days there. We were very happy with the new hygiene systems that the hotel was implementing
Terrible to say the least, took a chance and went in a mini break our stay was terrible walking round in the middle of the night trying to sort out the noise in our room thst i reported the day before, and when checking out the gurl on reception says your goid to go, first time in any hotel i have stayed in that i wasn't askrd how was my stay.
I would have travelled quit a bit before Covid so a staycation was nice and relaxing. Airports are horrible at the best of times. But Ireland is expensive.
V enjoyable, hotels tok expensive to stay in really.
Didn't have one!
Enjoyable fun relaxing
It was lovely . We wanted somewhere near the sea so stayed in Salthill . We were a bit let down the spa wasnʼt open . But fab location
Cant wait to visit the fitzwilton
Booking of breakfast slots frustrating. Disappointing hotel bars close so early.
Very pleasant It was a short four night break. Excellent hotel with great Covid 19 responsibility taken making us feel very safe. Hotel was Ellison hotel Castlebar co mayo
Felt safe and really enjoyed the break
Good
I have an underlying condition which has meant i can not work currently, and have been excluded by government staycation scheme as i currently dont pay tax, which makes it difficult financially to have a staycation, even though i would love to get away for a break after cocooning for so long.
Went to Killarney, was very happy with the safety measures at the hotel. The diningroom tables were so far apart with sanitizer on each table. Would just like to say the Government scheme for the Oct to April is no good to us as we are outside the tax net yet as early retirees we will be taking a break each month and spending our money at home
house rental, near sea, very scenic, weather typical Irish
I have not gone on one yet. Holidays at the end of September/October
I didn't go anywhere this summer. I might have gone somewhere in August were it not for the Lockdown in Laois Offaly and Kildare and the rising number of Covid cases.
Longford, Mayo and Sligo for a week's road trip. Loved it
Was very good, dont work so can not get tax rebate off cost of staycation enjoyable relaxing break
OK
Stayed home until 5th Sept....then stayed within Dublin for one night with another couple, ate our evening meal. Lucky we got nice weather! Have planned 2 nights away in Carlingford for this weekend. No further plans as yet!
Mixed weather and hotel was dated but otherwise good
Fantastic experience at the Amber Hotel in July, as always!
Caravanning right beside the beach - perfect!
We bought a caravan and travelled around. Was being adked €300+ a night for a family of five as we needed interconnecting rooms. Def will be going abroad next yr
Did not have one
i was lucky the weekend i went to Galway, the weather was really nice and was able to spend most of time outdoors
BY By staying in Ireland and keeping safe Didn't enjoy it at all. Weather was very bad, it rained everyday of our holiday. The hotel had plenty of hand sanitizers but some of the staff & customers didn't wear face covering & didn't observe safe distancing.
Rented a house in Louisburgh and stayed for 2 weeks
As for most people of our age a very lonely summer , also lost close relative and was unable to travel , I know os many people have had the same experience and maybe much worse , cant see things improving much , feel for all the hotel owners and staff they do such a great job every year , love to staycation rather than travel abroad
I didnʼt take any summer vacation. I was really afraid I d pick up the virus. I have just recovered from a critical illness. I am over 60. I thought it best to stay at home.
Lovely time, some places in Ireland are expensive but got good value in others
We need to support our own country and take breaks here
Relaxing with good food and scenic walks. Exciting things to do.
It was very successful & I had often being there & it is family owned & a Select hotel.
Sight seeing and meals out
It was a family holiday the house was big enough for us to social distancing. Only fault three day of rain. Most hotels had made a great effort with cleaning sanatisi g etc. Ppe was always worn by staff and strict social distancing was very evident whilst dining etc.
Overall good and feel somewhat safe
Really loved seeing parts beautiful parts of our country.
Stayed strictly with the rules. Do not want to get Covid, and will not travel until a vaccine becomes available
Irelss as Mc is bad value for money in comparison to travelling abroad. Itʼs lovely but with no guarantee of weather itʼs not something that Iʼll be doing if I donʼt have to.
We rented a house, weather was awful but thevkids cycled the greenway! We actually looked in staying withbyou for a long weekend butvyou were fully booked at the end of august!
West Cork for us is just magical . We go there year in year out and we never want to leave. If I won the lotto I'd buy a holiday house there.
Our 1 night stay cation was hoorendous! The hotel room was so bad. Bathroom filthy, amd and nails on the floor! We could only afford 1 night, paid 185 for a family room. There was a sticker on the door saying room was cleaned! It was NOT. When I complained, they said they had no other rooms. We didn't enjoy it. Felt unsafe due to how unclean it was
Loch Rynn Castle was excellent in every respect Excellent value for money up North for quality hotel stays. Rip off Republic is back with a vengeance. Prices quoted in August to stay in Galway, Cork, Kerry etc were exhorbitant. Also, the "eat out to help out" initiative was fantastic. Money off at the cash register was so helpful and easy, unlike the plan we have come up with to claim it back from Revenue...too much hassle. For a family of 4 eating out we saved £40 each meal...you can`t beat that. We felt we were being rewarded for eating out.
Lovely to visit some parts of Ireland that I had never been to before. And appreciate this beautiful country of ours!
We found it very relaxing and did a lot of cycling and walking
N/a
Stayed In Donegal for three nights dnd mayo for three nights ....regardless of travel restrictions we always staycation I. Ireland 3 to 4 times a year ..... always a pleasure
Excellent
Great break but not great weather
Not value for money
September break very much appreciated,,,no help from Government
Ireland is beautiful to look at but it needs the hospitality, music and craic. The price of hotels is ridiculous
Worked from home and looked after our children
Hi I did not have one yet
I love Ireland and it was brilliant!!!!!
Nice hotel
Over charged ,
Better than expected
Our summer vacation experience was mixed. The weather wasn't that good so it mean't that we spent a lot more time in our hotel rooms. We weren't comfortable to use hotel swimming pools, gyms or spas. I felt that the cleaning and hygiene in different hotels was inconsistent. In some cases, the cleaning of tables etc was quite lax. Some places were not so good on the social distancing. It was also apparent in some establishments that the guidelines were not being adhered to which made us feel less comfortable about staying in some hotels. The things that you would normally go to a hotel for e.g. swimming pool & spa are now places that I would not be comfortable going. It makes the whole experience a very different one and not as enjoyable.
Being apart from my partner throughout lockdown it was great to get a week away together, and Mayo is a beautiful part of the country
Castle Hotel Escape Had an excellent holiday in Belfast and cost was very good. Hotels in RoI are much more expensive-that needs to change if they are to attract more people on staycation
None yet
A bit to formal and not as relaxed as it normally should gave been.
Fabulous accommodation at good price, lovely to rediscover our own country
Relaxing and needed after being at home for so long
Lough Rynn was super thss as. You fit great stay
No,cooking no cleaning seaside walks scenic drives
I didnʼt have the opportunity to vacation this summer as we were hoping to bring our family dog with us but only available properties were either too expensive or not available when I was interested in going.
Venues great but missed the good weather and less expensive food and drink
Very different and somewhat restrictive. Ireland is a great place to holiday but it is expensive. 10 nights B&B in 3 hotels cost around €1800 for 2 adults, 1 child. All other food and entertainment expenses thereafter meant that our stay actioning cost around €3000. Nice but overpriced
Very nice but missed night life.
Sitting at home wishing I was some where else
No vacation as cost of hotels and accommodation was excessive.
Mayo was fantastic. Greenway and Croagh Patrick were highlights.
We are just back from our holiday in Dingle. We thoroughly enjoyed the break and of course the weather was great a real bonus. We travelled non 14 Sept and came back Fri 18. We ate in hotel 2 nights in restaurant and visited local restaurants on other nights. It was strange booking breakfast but we both agreed it worked brilliant. Our meals were served at table and no jumping up and down for toast and breakfast very enjoyable. Husband likes a pint and to visit local bars which we could not do on this occasion. We did slea head drive Conor pass and visited inch beach as nd trip to blanket island. He didn't get sea fishing which was a disappointment We feel invigorated and really enjoyed break after the long summer. We had 2 trips to Mulranney cancelled due to Kildare lockdown.
It was lovely to be in a scenic area and have a break from what's familiar
My husband and I had a wonderful two night break. Wonderful hotel food staff excellent. Little extras in our room included chocolates and homemade macaroons.
Great spa, awful breakfast, comfortable room but using plastic cups which is not good for hot drinks. Hotel was disappointing to what I was expecting As we had to cancel our trip abroad we decided to take a short break in West Cork. It was simply fabulous. The weather was perfect and that helped but the scenery was like nothing I have ever witnessed , magnificent and every day brought something new. The chosen hotel was central, strictly adhered to all hygiene protocols , food delicious and really good value for money. The best part of the holiday was being able to throw everything in the car so as to be prepared for all situations and occasions. We will absolutely do it again
Hotel I stayed at I wouldnʼt recommend but staycation experience overall was lovely
I was meant to go to Stockholm in May which didn't. Hoping if I eventually get my refund to use it for a staycation. I only went on a day trip to Dunmore East this summer.
Absolutely lovely but missed the sunshine
Brilliant, hired a house in Cleggan, weather lovely but missed the pub trad music session
Went to Stillorgan for 2 nites.
Quiet at home
We stayed in Youghal, it was fabulous, the weather was great and we self catered. There are six of us in the family including children aged 13-19.
We stayed in the Midleton Park Hotel. We felt very safe as the sanitising and social distancing were very well maintained. We had a brilliant time and the staff looked after everyone very well. We are staying there again this month. It was absolutely awful and quite scary that the resort didnʼt care about Covid. Lusty beg was the most filthy place I have ever stayed and they didnʼt even care when I asked for the cabin to be cleaned. Iʼm now worried about ending up in the same situation again and being so far from home and feeling unsafe and dirty
We were in Connemara and it was perfect. Hopefully lough Rynn this autumn! West of the Shannon great locations.
poor
Hotel was lovely. Very hygenic and complied stringly to covid guidlines. However the restrictions on social interaction with other guests changes the whole experience of the time away.
It was only a two night city break. The city was buzzing and the restaurants and hotel restaurant were exceptionally good. The weather was important whereas the winter cation I will want an hotel i can relax and enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings of he indoors
My teenage daughter said it was great to see parts of your own country
Haven't had one yet so dying to get away as soon as we can
The difficult getting meal and facilities booking was disappointing. The Costs in Ireland are also very high
We knew the place we went to as we had been there before. When the weather was bad there was not much to do, no where was open., but I enjoyed the rest without the sun. My break to westport was horrible, very poor saitation, poor communication, lots closed, disorganised staff and management. My staycation to the galgorm.in antrim was AMAZING!!!
We wanted to go away from people and media so we stayed in a lovely cottage in Connemara and couple nights in a hotel in Enis as kids wanted swimming pool
Staff management did not no what to do miss understand between dem because I ate in the restaurant I could not go to the bar unless I ordered more food so I had to order more food and leave it what a waste of food and money
Myself and my husband spend 2 nights in a hotel in Wexford. We both felt safe at all times
Excellent stay cation at Castlerosse Hotel, Killarney,County Kerry.
I combined personal matters with my stay. There is value to be had,but a lot of deals are out of reach of Senior Citizens. Also very little availability for Single Occupancy. I would go away more often if it was more available!
Lovely staycation but in the hotel part of our stay it was like COVID 19 didnʼt exist, no masks were worn by any guests. More comfortable in self catering apartment as no contact with other guests
Great
Only going on first staycation in September Anner hotel, stayed in two different occasions throughout the summer. Lovely hotel, fantastic staff, gorgeous food. Few more benches in the gardens would have been ideal during the nice weather. Only downside was during the second stay the showers overflowed every time we took a shower and we had to clean up the flooded bathroom as staff not allowed enter rooms (was told this when I rang reception) and the noise from outside the windows in room 114 & 115 (room was so warm windows needed to be opened for air). The positives far outweigh the issues and we will definitely be back (we will just request different rooms next time) thank you anner hotel for a lovely stay (ps, the kids keep asking when are we going back, they loved loved loved the pool)
Enjoyable
Na
It was fantastic. Travelled to Connemara, Clare, Kerry and Cork
I couldnt fill it in here but i also had a 1 night break at Lough Rynn - fabulous break
Relaxing
Shielding since end of February. A handful of seaside trips when they were not busy and a lot of time in the garden.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience
This year I was happy to stay at home in our week away in Spain was cancelled due to xovid.my yearly girls cruise was cancelled in may and again in September due to covid restrictions.but I am a positive person and enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the beauty Irela I stayed in the Connemara coast hotel for three nights b b it was my 50th anniversary we enjoyed it.
Highly enjoyed it. Needed the break with the kids
Acceptable in light of uncertainty.
It is lovely staying in ireland but it is too expensive
A break from routine and working on the front line. Family memories.
Great self catering break in Doolin, Co.Clare
Enjoyable, onece people are aware of their personal responsibilities. Hotels on the whole seem to be doing the best they can.
I travelled around to scenic places on day trips, I enjoyed myself but found it expensive, little was done to help or encourage us to stay at home in this beautiful country
The horse and jockey hotel, a pleasure to stay here anytime and they had great measures in place for covid19
It was great just to get away from home after spending so much time looking at the same 4 walls.
Have not had one this year, but look forward to an Autumn break HOPEFULLY My Summer consisted of working in my garden which I found very therapeutic. I was fortunate that I could get out running and walking around my area. I also got in some hill climbing in Glendalough. I did the shopping wearing mask and surgical gloves as my husband had to cocoon because he had a triple bypass over a year ago so it was easy to keep him safe as he did a lot of reading during lockdown. Weʼre very thankful to be well and healthy during this pandemic. Stay safe and the simple treats in life are always the best.
Have been sheltering since March. Cancelled our booking to travel to Spain at the beginning of September. With the covid 19 figures rising Weare not sure what to do.
It was enjoyable to be out socialising and feeling more normal!
We enjoyed our staycation in Kerry and we were lucky with the weather and found our break relaxing
A haven't had a break yet
A wonderful break on our own island of ireland
Love Kerry anyway
did not have one !
Nice, quite and comfortable Went to a small cottage in the countryside using Airbnb. Our own version of isolation and social distance
Planned to go to Australia. Went nowhere instead as my mom had shoulder surgery
Hotel stay was a learning curve for everyone, but most definitely having to book everything reduces the relaxation value of a break. Hotels however are all trying their best. Increased evidence of PPE, hand sanitizer PPE etc are not a deciding factor in booking but they do effect the comfort of the stay.
didn't feel like I got the most out of my holiday as we didn't go abroad
Great, Ireland is brilliant
I didnʼt have a vacation this summer
None yet!
Opted for self catering experience rather than hotel/B&B. Researched activities & venues within 45 mins of our staycation base and booked evening meals in advance. Great to explore & rediscover parts of Ireland
Very good but too busy at North coast with not enough social distancing
WE enjoyed our astay ast Lough Rynn and would go again .We also spernt the follo We also spent the 2 days following our Lough Rynn stay in Northern Ireland Didn't have one
They should have given vouchers to each house hold as many elderly people can't claim back money and people on low incomes can't afford to pay without vouchers this is catering to the wealthy people who can afford to spend 625 per person
Lovely hotel.. Great place for children and mayo is lovely
I regularly staycation and have dinner for a number of years. I love to tour around Ireland, it is fab
I enjoyed my experience, due to the hotel's efforts in making me feel comfortable and relaxed. I was disappointed to not go on my usual foreign trip but have always enjoyed mini-breaks at home in Northern Ireland and the Republic. The weather this year was also very kind to me on the dates I was away which made it even nicer!
Fantastic
Stayed in 4 locations. Great break from house. Missed bar music. Visited great sites
Very pleased with all the sanitize stations in hotels and the way staff made one feel safe
Not great
Staycation was fantastic. Highly recommend it! Went to Connemara. Hotel was relaxing but weather wasnʼt very nice. Big advantage of this hotel is that we could take our dog and that will be the way going forward. Staff werenʼt wearing masks but it was early July and Iʼm sure things have changed since then
It was a good as can be expected given the way the world has been turned upside in the last six months.
We had a great time in the Celtic Ross hotel in rosscarberry. The food was beautiful the rooms were spotless. And the staff were so friendly and everywhere was spotless
Enjoyed the break , noticed an increase in prices right across the board , Hotel , food, drink . Booked hotels that had leisure centers . Keep the customers informed with information is very important.
Loved it
live by the sea, had visitors coming here!!
We enjoy hotel breaks in rural Ireland in a nice quiet hotel without too much children if possible.
Spend 6 weeks camping with 3 boys - loved it. Had own camp toilet and hand wash sanitizer station. Spend a night in a hotel after - but we would have lived Z few more days as a family of 5 in a hotel relaxed setting
Very enjoyable felt very safe Walking my neighbourhood.
Great break
we stayed in the trident hotel in kinsale we were upgraded and had a great time treated very well would like ti visit again
Enjoyable
Expensive accommodation costs compared to traveling abroad
Short 2 night break in hotel resort in Northern Ireland , very restricted activities, not really worth taking a longer break with restrictions in place ,
Had a wonderful time in the anner hotel
Very enjoyable family holiday in Kerry. Beautiful location with lots of child-friendly facilities and activities
Had a great few weeks on River Shannon
We were lucky with great weather which allowed us to enjoy planned outdoor walks. We planned ahead and booked restaurants but definitely missed the spontaneity of being able to sit down for a pint in the sunshine
Didn't get to go anywhere just a day to the coast when weather was good no point going to any hotel as nothing going on so no point going Toured cork and Kerry on the wild Atlantic way, stunning views, relaxing hotels had a fantastic time.
We went to Galway and it was brillant
did not get to go anywhere as I am a health care worker any just saw too many people not obeying the rules of social distancing and gathering in too big a groups so felt safer to stay at home.
Fab. I always holiday in Ireland. It has so much to offer!
Disappointed with food menu available.
It has been nice to spend time in Ireland however Ireland prices for food and accommodation are very high compared to some European countries which may put off many people
It was nice to be away from our usual routines. The peace and quiet was beautiful and connecting back to nature was badly needed
Aran islands. Very little open. Happy with adherence to Covid rules.
Would like to see more creativity around the offering in Ireland, unspoiled places are amazing but they need more facilities and good accommodation. Rural planning prohibits creative development and too big of an emphasis on getting facilities to achieve big numbers through the doors. In the current climate these places don't make for a good experience. (centre parcs is an amazing development!) Great break
I didn't feel the hotel was following all the guide lines. Only started. Staff weren't wearing masks when we arrived. I brought this and other issues I noticed to the attention of a manager. The next day they were wearing masks. Hotel room had o net curtain in the window, not very private. Food was delicious in the hotel
Very enjoyable
Lovely time away with family
2 night stay in The Twelve in Barna. Love the hotel and their is always great.
Just great to get away but a pity about the weather!
Fantastic beaches and hospitality
We had a short break in Bundoran. Family friendly holiday. We have holidayed in Ireland on numerous occasions and will do so again in the future. We also tend to do a weekend or midweek break in a more romantic hotel in Ireland when we can.
Enjoyed four days on the Clarke coast but it wasn't the same as usual.
Wild Atlantic way a great attraction, expensive 2 week holiday across Airbnb's and hotels in clare, Kerry, cork, Portlaois and cavan. Varying levels of covid protocols Very enjoyable. Got room service for most meals and enjoyed the safety of that. Spent the holiday on outdoor activities. Safety is most important for me. Tables in restaurants didnt seem spread out enough for me so didnt feel comfortable.
We availed of woodland and seaside walks. We took picnics to scenic locations. We took exploratory walks. All very enjoyable.
Excellent food, accommodation and as a family we felt extremely safe.
We have family in Thurles and as a family group, aged from 8 to 82, we traveled down to see them and stayed in your hotel. The swimming pool was great for our grandchildren (and their mom). The hotel is close to family and we could travel back and forth. We also had a meal in the hotel and because we were a largish family group had a back room for our meal which was much appreciated. The staff were most accommodating and we couldnʼt have been more happy and felt safe during our stay
We didn' do anything
It was brillant and extremely enjoyable and honestly the staff made us feel very special
It was good but bit to much it felt like a hospital think the hotel could have toned it down a notch
2 short breaks. Lough Ryan was fantastic and very relaxing. Good guidelines but still relaxed. Second was B and B in mayo. Also excellent.
We enjoyed our stay in the hotel but were disappointed that the cleaning of chairs were not done in any of the hotels we stayed in. It is as important to clean the chairs as It is the dining tables. Enjoyed the hotels both in mayo and Galway.downside was you couldn't get a drink until you were sitting at table to dine. My partner likes a few drinks before his meal .
I didnt go any where over night. We went on a day trip to do a walk in sligo, the horseshoe. It was beautiful and delighted to say we have done it and talk about how beautiful our country is. We had dinner after the walk in Bundoran. We were very impressed with our food and the staff.
Went with friends with kids who have same interests and likes.
I enjoyed my staycation but will travel abroad as soon as restrictions are lifted
As we always only ever do staycations it was no different for us this year. My husband works extremely hard for himself so itʼs hard to get away so we enjoy taking a few days away with the kids. And after the amount of homeschooling that was done this year it was a badly needed break!
Fewer than usual holidays. Glad to find lovely hotels in Republic of Ireland
I had a rough summer, I ended up having 2 operations nothing to do with covid just unlucky so I am really looking fordward to getting my wife away on a nice break on the second week in October.
ITwas a lovely family run hotel, food was lovely, staff were very helpful and friendly
Stayed at home. Only went to Southern Ireland for 2nts
Enjoyable and relaxing Had enjoyable family holiday in Co Kerry. It was quite different from other years.
Calm easy and quiet and refreshing not to have to deal with American tourists on breaks
Very good and good value for money
Thereʼs no spontaneity while away. Queues everywhere even when booked for breakfast and dinner. Felt very tied to times.
Pity about the weather
Had a wonderful 2 days in Inis More, Arran Islands
We wanted to climb Croagh Patrick and that's why we choose Westport to stay. It was really lovely.
Great family break in well run hotel. Didn't feel too restricted. Kids had a great time in the pool.
it was good but short
Although not going away, staying at home I spent my time with my wife and 3 year old son. The garden became a park/playground, with slide, swing, bouncy castle, swimming pool and relaxing area. We bonded with eachother on a daily basis, cooking together and enjoying eachothers company. Life may never be the same again, however spending it with my small family made a big place in our hearts Beautiful hotel in a fabulous location , fantastic staff and service . Spotless , clean ..PPE worn by staff ..made to feel very welcome ..can't wait to visit again
X
We stayed in O'Shea hotel in Tramore Co.Waterford, it was a wonderful experience. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The food was lovely and staff made us feel so welcome .
Very enjoyable
Invested in campervan as my husband has an underlying condition, however we always dine out so if your hotel allowed overnight campervan parking, we would support hotel
Cocooned
We try to get away for 2 eeeks in the summer and 3/4 nights in Oct mid term and 1/2 nights in dec . We had wounderful time away in Kerry this year. Our children love out door activities. Aged 10,11 & 12. Walking , climbed mountains in Kerry , canoeing horse hiding cycling. It was great booking swimming pool in hotel every day all went really well. Food fab and all had get holiday. We have stayed in your hotel my brother got married there in 2019 really enjoyed it rated 10/10 frat venue. Also have stayed in kilronan castle really enjoyed for myself and few girls and another stay with husband great venue love location of both lots of walks etc.
really enjoyable.
Ireland is a wonderful place to holiday, however it proves extremely expensive for a family of 7. Not enough hotels cater for large families. It needs to become more affordable to holiday in Ireland or people just won't be able to go. On the positives, our country has amazing hotels, amazing restaurants & wonderful attractions. It was fabulous lovely friendly people
Over priced and poor value for money
Low key but nice, weather impacted a bit. Ireland has a lot to offer but do appreciate getting abroad too. I found a lot of businesses dis not update their websites to reflect their revised opening hours etc which was not helpful when travelling.
Good but not like my expectation
2nd choice holidays
It was great and I really believe in the staycation option but price has to be more competitive.
Brill
It was in early July so felt safe. Food was nice but weather ceasing. Connemara in the rain is not much fun. Was a bit surprised the hotel staff werenʼt wearing masks but it was early July. Was also happy that we could bring our dog.
A venture into the unknown.
Nice Hotel staff very professional and we felt confident they were complying with high covid safety standards..People very friendly in Belfast
Boring and frustrated
We stayed in the Ardilaun Hotel Galway. Have been here afew times, fab location, friendly staff, fantastic food and in a great location to visit salthill/ galway city.
Stayed in two hotels north and south both were amazing and handled Covid policies very well
Very enjoyable stay in Westport. Wyatt Hotel obeyed all guidelines and we felt very comfortable and safe.
It comprised of a hill climbing and walking staycation with climbing Carrauntouhill being the major experience. Stayed in the Randles Killarney and was satisfied with the service they offered our group including dinner, B&B and packed lunches for walking days.
We were to have gone to America and Portugal but decided to cancel owing to the uncertainty about travel restrictions. We have had short breaks in Dublin and Donegal, and intend to take more during the autumn.
Great opportunity to visit our own beautiful hotels, I did a staycation 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. Galway is a beautiful county with lots to see and do, the hotel was fab and staff were amazing giving the current working environments.
Very good Took wife son and both our mothers away to a 3 bed lodge in Castlemartyr really enjoyed and got the weather- now heading to Dunraven Arms in Adare for 2 nights
WE HAD A GOOD TIME AND THE WEATHER WAS GREAT
Our summer holiday in Ireland was very enjoyable as usual. We do it every year. I am disappointed that the Government Rebate Scheme does not come intp effect until October.
Visited Adare Limerick, Cork city and Clonakilty. Loads to see and do and got good weather. Hotels too expensive and standards have slipped in terms of quality.
Have used the same holiday home for the last 7/8 years. Enjoyed break very much
I've responded to this based on Cavan Crystal (we also stayed in several B&Bs in mayo/sligo. In all cases I was impressed with cleanliness and effort made to mitigate for virus.
I love the Irish countryside, lakes and rivers so look forward to visiting again
Lovely and relaxing
Great -Lots to do and see in Ireland
Iʼve been on three breaks this summer, all in the west from Kerry to Galway. All brilliant! Family time in the outdoors, lovely weather and relaxing
Beautiful relaxing few days in Co. Donegal, followed by an overnight in Lough Rynn on way home.
I miss overseas travel for the weather. Ive always taken a few breaks in Ireland. I don't see enough weekly offers for couples without kids who usually take a week. Would love to see a weekly offer from select with option to move to 2 or 3 locations during the week
It was excellent..weather great...food delicious...missed the pubs an music
Ireland is a lovely country to explore, lots to see and do but the weather plays a major part. Also because of Covid19, the experience was very different
We had a very relaxing family break after very stressful few mo ths cooped up at home. Thd hotel was top class and great value for money and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and very accommodating.
Stayed in 3 different hotels, in 3 different counties, survey does not allow for this, could only enter 1 county. Stayed in Lough Rynn in feb, prior to Covid restrictions. Then stayed in counties Clare, sligo and Galway at different times. Found each hotel slightly different in their restrictions, but all adhered well to guidelines.
Booked via pigsback with meal included, room upgrade and breakfast. Great deal but ramada hotel Belfast a bit shabby, especially the carpets. Food average and will ho back but stay in clayton
very enjoyable
Very enjoyable Great house in Clifden, very comfortable, well supplied with all we needed, very clean. We found the lack of spontaneity a bit off putting, re going to restaurants etc, so postponed another planned trip.
Difficult to find quality accommodation that would allow our dog. Concerns over social distancing, price and value for money. It was important that there were things around the accommodation to visit but we were happy to travel. Would have liked to have gone away more often, but the uncertainty of changing restrictions put us off. We have many staycations every year as well as travel overseas, however we didn't travel as much, that included staycations.
Only a long weekend..partner nervous because of covid...nit the most relaxing experience to be honest...
It was lovely but I would have preferred to go on a sun holiday
I didnʼt take a summer vacation. Stayed put in my own home / town
U had none
I had been working flat out all during the lock down just needed time out and somewhere quiet to relax .The holiday home in Killarney was fab spotless .
i had none because of covid.
Enjoyable break with good food and friendly staff. Local activities were very important especially with self catering. We really enjoyed doing day trips. each day a member of the family got to plan the day. Having fine weather is important to get out and about, because as a family we enjoy the outdoors .
It was to our shared family home which we use during the summer and autumn. Weather this time was appalling but it was good to be away even if the daily news was depressing in terms of covid numbers growing
It was home away from home in a safe environment but offered a break from usual routine. Enjoyed the different scenery and beautiful locations Ireland has to offer.
Very good but a bit expensive.
Stayed at home
We stayed in a hotel in County Cavan as a family unit. Meals included we all used the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Went for walks around the the grounds. Also visited County Roscommon on one of the days.
Very restrictive but tolerable
No vacation taken
I found the requirement to have a meal before having a drink ridiculous
I believe Irish Hotels in particular need to work on price points that will allow people get value for money Had no break just Ed enjoyed weather at home
Due to COVID19 we decided not to go to any Hotels this summer. We protected ourselves and want to stay safe
Very relaxing holiday excellent service from staff
The kids had a great time and enjoyed the break. It really doesn't matter where we go as long as we have time together and not have to leave to go to work just being able to enjoy each others company
Boring
Great hotels , good food , friendly staff
Very restrictive but tolerable
Stayed at home
Enjoyable, however some locations can be expensive but value for money.
Very different but good
My summer vacation was spent in he outdoors walking, cycling and gardening. I stayed in Roscommon, Donegal and Galway. Social distancing and good hygiene was in evidence everywhere. with small children a holiday at home is always favourable. this year we brought our parents too and had a multigenerational family holiday. West Cork was lovely with lots of places to visit despite sometimes rainy weather!
One night in Lough Lough Rynn, 2 nights in Kilronan. Fabulous time in both as usual
Had not enough staff on for evening meal so all ran late. Hotel was a bit dated and dusty. The scenery in Connemara is fab and weather was good made up for hotel.
Being from the north of Ireland the govt tax breaks and incentives donʼt apply. Nonetheless we will take several breaks south of the border.
Lovely and relaxing
We stayed in 3 hotels. 2 were fabulous and wanted to make the most for guests within the restrictions. 1 hotel we would not revisit. They were completely over the top and felt they were enforcing rules that were not necessary. It was too regimental and didn t work.
A lovely quiet break in a bustling city.
I am currently pregnant with my first baby, so we decided it would be safer to stay at home and enjoy our local parks and beaches, rather than risk travelling even within Ireland, due to other tourists not adhering to social distancing or necessary quarantining.
Very relaxing very expensive in comparison to abroad Bbq back garden adhering all advices
Loved my 2 Staycations in Ireland, we have such a beautiful country. Decided next year to do the same. Only downfall is how expensive it is here in Ireland compared to abroad. Government should have done the rebate system prior to October. Put more offers on to encourage more Staycation and more people would avail of it
Only did day trips, returned to our own home at night
It was v relaxing. It was great to get away. Beautiful scenery. A break from it all
Stayed home and improved garden, took the dogs in longer walks, spent more time in local areas, improved cooking skills (I hope). Generally got back to basics and achieved things I've been putting off for while. Appreciating the simpler things
It was good
I loved it felt very safe and the beauty we have on our own door step why not stay here
We didnt have one yet
The weather was the only problem
Really enjoyed our beauriful country and got to visit lots of places that I would not have seen only fir covid, as I usually go abroad on holidays We holiday in Ireland every year but our usual accommodation was not available so we booked a hotel which worked out very well
Lovely holiday
Amazing. Feeling of great fulness and very thankful for a beautiful country.
Stayed in Lough Rynn. Excellent quality and value. Staff were fantastic.
Fabulous experience, Ireland is so beautiful, we always took short breaks at home and went abroad on sun holidays now I would consider spending longer holidays at home. The quality of hotels is excellent and the food is great. The scenery is second to none and I found relatively good value for money but then I booked midweek breaks which are cheaper. I do believe hotels need to put together packages to suit all age groups.
Not clean enough
Close to sea and open spaces - very clean and organised
Very enjoyable stay in Donegal but obviously much more limited than I would have liked
Very relaxing, friendly staff. Hand sanitizer used, masks worn and social distancing used.
It was partly work. I went to Bulgaria last week to check and close my apartments down for the winter It was a pleasure to experience Irish hospitality at its best .
Both of us 80yo so month in France in our caravan cancelled. Stayed in Letterkenny,Dillonʼs hotel for three days, while getting serviced and that is the extent of our breaks this and one night with meal in Lough Rynn Castle to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary which was very and enjoyable, staff 5 star, breakfast times 5 star, strongly recommend.
We couldnʼt have asked for more from the Amber Hotel they were amazing in contrast to another hotel we stayed at the week before.
Relaxed and got time to experience the Irish beauty
It was grand if a little quiet.
We stayed in Riundstone Galway, its was a lovely stay and we intend on visiting Lough Rynn to celebrate our wedding anniversary(delayed wedding anniversary)
Value was incredible in super hotel outside Rosslare. Lots to see and do. They catered for disability ie walker or wheelchair depending on what was needed by me
Very safe
Ireland is beautiful with amazing restaurants, if guaranteed good weather(no rain) would stay in Ireland
Non existent! The hotel was great, had a one way system, sanitiser stations, tables were distanced, staff wore PPE I felt very relaxed. Food and facilities were fantastic.
Overpriced staff very unprofessional and rude
Stayed at home and enjoyed the delights on our doorstep!
Social distancing was the most important thing & the Covid rate in the area. I won't go to Dublin for a long time.
Wonderful.
Lovely hotel clean and fealt safe great staff very welcoming and helpful
It was beautiful , the scenery magnificent and I want to see more of my own country
No vacation due to Covid lockdown
Kerry was fantastic. We got amazing weather.
Enjoyed our staycation, visiting places we have not been to in a while .
We made plenty of trips north of the boarder to avail of the way out to help out offer all of August which is a great help when going for days out. Our government did nothing to help the normal everyday person. It was good
Visited Leitrim, Clare, Wexford and Wicklow enjoyed it all
None
shcup
we were asked to stay at home to help stop the spread of covid how was half of Dublin traveling to kerry going to help things greedy bastards
Great but please practice social distancing
Stayed at home
Hotel staff very professional and we felt confident they were complying with high covid safety standards..People very friendly in Belfast
None
It was a varied experience with some hospitality venues more user friendly .
Foreign trip for two weeks with 10 people cancelled with a substantial loss of money. More restaurants need to be available to do social distance effectively. What was open was done very well.
Loved it. Time to get to know Ireland. Felt very safe NO concerns. Will definitely holiday at home going forward
Vacation was an annual visit for a group of four and found it revitalizing despite the lack of adherence to Covid 19 guidelines by a small number of people encountered
Relaxing break and great to get away for some normality
Ok but very expensive and the weather was poor
Great freedom beside the sea, safe - would not like to have been abroad this year
Had a lovely time travelling different parts of Ireland. Trying many beautiful restaurants and hotels.
Did not do much & in withdrawals
Couldn't fault it even the weather played ball.
Just few days away in a hotel near home. We had a short, but satisfying break.would recommend it.
Great to experience the wonderful hospitality of an Irish hotel, a thoroughly enjoyable break.
Lough Rynn just fantastic , staff incredible
Beautiful scenery and great to be able to use a pool / gym / jacuzzi even if it was limited to 1 hour a day which had to be prebooked. Very poor value in hotel, very dated and in need of maintenance. Poor food, room service cancelled despite the need to maintain social distance and being unable to get a drink in the bar as tables could not be reserved and it appeared to be full of locals who did not have any food on the tables but residents were told that all covid rules applied! All public toilets at tourist spots were closed!!!! This was crazy.
It was a lovely break. I wish there were a few little items to make it more enjoyable. Like a text or written time for booked dinner. Plastic wrapped around tv remotes and changed between ustomers. Plastic over buttons in lifts.signs to request no cleaning of rooms to reduce contamination of rooms.this would have made it more at ease.
3 generations enjoying a holiday together
Throughly enjoyed Co Wexford-it is good to explore your own island again - would be bliss if the sunshone a wee bit more!
idoes not apply to me just went for one weekend away and was expensive
I spent a lovely few days in kerry. Accommodation was very nice and the weather was good. Had an excellent holiday in Lough Rynn hotel, the food was delicious, everything was in place regarding Covid 19 and the staff were excellent in the care of guests. They made us feel safe and were extremely helpful and kind and couldnʼ t do enough for us and it was always with a smile. It was one of the best holidays we had in Ireland, we have stayed in many hotels in Ireland, but Lough Rynn has surpassed them all because they had the magic ingredient for making every guest feel special and that is why my husband and I will return again and again.
Very good
Anner Hotel Thurles - lovely hotel, wonderful staff, all safety measures observed, nice location for trips out. Good value!
No atmosphere..Rooms too bare
Whilst the hotel facilities and hygiene were up to standard, we did not feel that the staff in the hotel were adequately trained. There were gaps in basic service in addition to the additional covid related requirements. Recommendations were made to management.
Nice to get away with family even just a few hours drive away. VAT reduction wasn't applied though which could have helped.
I really enjoyed it. The weather was good in Kerry, the food was good. We did the Ring of Kerry and it was great, far quieter than ususal, you could get across to Skellig Michéal when usually you have to book months in advance. I really enjoyed the National Park and going cycling.
The weather was only fair but the accommodation was fine.
It was pleasant enough Fantastic
The Hotel was very good (Galway Bay) but some of the cafes and restaurants in Clare/Galway not as reliable. At the same time hotel appeared a few times a little crowded.
Not as it was before. Not as comfortable. Too many rules regulations restrictions re timing of eating and where to sit but still enjoyed it
Best of a bad situation
Really enjoyed our stay away this summer with the kids. We got a brilliant spell of weather and travelled around a lot. We were fully aware of Covid restrictions and adhered to all. My wife and I are looking to possibly getting away on our own for a weekend break soon.
Stayed at loughrynn castle with 5 other family members. We felt safe and as returning guests, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
What I would like to stay in, in Ireland is like a 3 star Centre Parcs; we were supposed to go to Haven Holidays in England. The hotel rooms don't suit our family of 5 anymore and if you want a pool with a self catering option, you usually need a hotel which is expensive. We enjoyed our break in Galway and Mayo but the weather was dreadful, that's the main reason we go abroad usually and that won't change
Urlaub im eigenen Garten
Not abroad but still fun
Extremely enjoyable Amazing hotel, staff and food
Good
Didnʼt happen
Not as relaxing as usual. had to keep an eye out that other guests were adhering to Government and hotel policies. breakfast experience was better than expected but should have been given the options for meal times.i.e breakfast when booking and not when checking in late at night when all later breakfast times had been allocated. Unfair on people who can not arrive early!
Dissapointed because I had to cancel a planned holiday abroad
Stayed in Kilronan Castle as excellent Covid 19 protocol in place without being too restrictive.
Went to donegal. Kids had a great time. Good food. Hotel had a pool and was near the beach
It was very enjoyable
We spend für Time er Home in nur Garten in Bavaria Germany, neuer Chiemsee.
Ireland is a beautiful country and offer fabulous facilities and wonderful food options Itʼs a pity it is so expensive I went to NI instead of Republic of Ireland because it's cheaper.
Fabulous stayed in the lough runners castle it was fabulous felt very safe and very welcomed
Very different to normal summer holidays. Enjoyable relaxing stays in Galway and Schull. Great Great experience during the'New Normal'.Very different to usual Summer holiday.Relaxing, good food
Enjoyable with lovely staff and wonderful acommodation and food.
Enjoyed it. Bar and restaurant not normal. No atmosphere in hotel
The standard of the accommodation was not good enough.
Kerry self catering apartment on hotel premises
The hotel we stayed in was very well equipped to accommodate its customers and it was really nice to get a meat wit the family
3 night stay in Rochestown Park Hotel in July. We felt safe in every area of thr hotel. Got to enjoy the city during the day and relax in the hotel at night.
We loved it. We got to see parts of this beautiful country that we may never have seen. We got to spend precious time with our family and our dear dogs. We felt safe. Ate amazing food and stayed in hotels that offered real value. The sun even came out for our holiday in Donegal so got so beach time too! Overall totally enjoyed our Ireland staycation. Had a great few days away, lots of choice to do with kids . Really enjoyed breakfast as it was served to us. I'm usually last to get my breakfast and everyone is finished! Choice of food etc very good too. It did help that the weather was good. I think it would be good for kids to have a room to play in each hotel if the weather was bad.
Found it difficult as arrived at hotel unable to get lunch as was not aware had to book , felt like nothing to do but just go to room , would be a good idea to send an email before arriving about pool times , spa , meal times , so can book everything before arriving. It made it less relaxing as had to worry when there if could get in restaurant for dinner . Also we didn't know until check in what the breakfast was like and this made it worrying safety wise. The more information and bookings before arriving would be less stressful
felt very uncomfortable and regimental
Great
Beautiful but very limited with restrictions
Nice!!!
Family camping , got good weather, can't complain.
We have stayed in 3 hotels and 1 rental. All except one were excellent re covid hygiene and arrangements. One hotel had too many 30+ age group not wearing masks. Most restaurants are excellent at new measures.
All good! Ticked most boxes We were extremely lucky and got great weather especially given the fact it was a hotel on the beach at inchydoney
Once you have eaten at night nothing else to do but go back to your room and watch tv! So cheaper to stay in your own county eat out and go home to your own bed to relax
Frustrating,
ZERO,
Fabulous active break at the beautiful West Cork Hotel with helpful and pleasant staff.
In general people adhere to COVID restrictions and guidelines. We had a great experience and would definitely repeat this type of holiday
Went to Athlone for two nights. On the day we left I joined a man walking from Ballyhaunis to Dublin for charity. Met him and did Roscommon to Lanesboro stretch. Enjoyed seeing the area around here. Hubby and I were staying in Athlone. As he has MS hygiene very important in staying anywhere. He drove as I walked.
Very enjoyable and would go again.
Stayed with yourselves had a great time.
We were supposed to go to Las Vegas, Cork was a nice alternative! It was a lovely break and nice to get away from everything for a few day
Hotel was lovely and we were very happy there, we had a large party for a family birthday and were delighted with everything
Very disappointed with the hotel we stayed at in Cork. No obvious guidelines being implemented, might not have been all the hotels fault the general public have to take a fair share of the responsibility!
Great break but missed ordinary pubs for drink only
Varied weather but overall a good experience - not happy about the number of foreign tourists around Kerry.
Good to get away
AER B&B in Wicklow was lovely
Although it was only a three day break we just needed to go somewhere to recharge batteries and have time out from daily grind. Although nervous to see what precautions were in place our Hotel was on point with everything so we will return for short winter stay later in year.
Excellent value for money, great accommodation
Hotel faculties & food were very good @ will go back I had a great time in Co Clare. I also visited Inis Oirr and would highly recommend it to others. Loved surfing in Lahinch and the drive from doolin to Fanore
It was ok ,
Great!
Lovely relaxed mid week break in Westport. Cannot recommend The Wyatt Hotel enough. Great staff throughout the hotel.
Relaxing escape which felt as normal as possible with covid restrictions in place.
Just enjoyed a few days out driving around in car with packed lunch not getting out but still trying to arrange a 5 day break to Ireland just awaiting guide lines and my job situation
Family friendly and local cheap things to do, i.e beach, waterfalls, forest walks. On site driving range and playground
It was a wonderful, relaxing, seaside holiday. First week was spent on the beach with grandchildren in lovely sunshine. The second week was spent touring the area with adult friends, a perfect mix that wouldnʼt happen abroad
really enjoyed camping however Irish weather was not great
It was nice and relaxing and very nice to get away from home for few days
Hotel procedures inline with guidelines & food & bar was very good Went to Belfast all food half price Went to Belfast all food half price
The west of Ireland is truly gorgeous
We came in January. It was very quiet but extremely nice. Dinner was delicious.
Excellent but expensive
Great
Ireland is a wonderful country to holiday in, and we would have stayed in Ireland even if it wasn't for COVID 19. I do find hotels a bit too expensive still. Average of €180 to €200 per night for a couple is too much.
We spent one night in Belfast and one night in Derry. We only went to Belfast to have dinner in our favourite restaurant, which was great, but the hotel was disappointing, expensive and room was fine but breakfast poor. Derry was much better, town vibrant though social distancing and mask-wearing not good, hotel was great. Called to Wild Ireland in Donegal on the way back which was great, but stumbled on it by chance through a TV programme, the fact that we spent our 2 nights in Northern Ireland speaks for itself, publicity from Fáilte Ireland has been very poor.
Would have been cheaper to go abroad and have good weather to enjoy the outdoors for the leave selected. Cost and quality of food and drink makes stay cation unattractive
Because of lockdown we had no holiday this year Living in Kildare we had to ca
Just could of been more Covid friendly when came to dinning and drinks in the bar and at breakfast times.
When the sun shines, nothing can beat Ireland. I said WHEN
Happened to get great weather which is not always likely so spent most of it out on the lough. We had booked self catering cottage at Belle Island. If I was to go to lough Rynn I would be looking for good value family package with perhaps 1 night in the restaurant
We all had a mosr enjoyable holiday us Grandparents had a week in the Galway Bay Hotel on 16th August We may not spend enough on Autumn breaks to avail of Government subsidy - we mind our grandchildren
Stayed in a number of venues north and south of the border. Food and accommodation was superb, weather less so Ireland has a lot to offer and we thoroughly enjoyed our staycation 2020
Donegal, Beautiful scenery, Great Food, Nice People. Good accommadation
We stayed in Riundstone Galway, its was a lovely stay and we intend on visiting Lough Rynn to celebrate our wedding anniversary(delayed wedding anniversary)
very enjoyable as restrictions were adhered to
It was only a few days in Donegal but it was a nice break. I think some of the hotels in Ireland are far too expensive. You could have a week in Spain for some of the prices they are charging It was great went to loads of different places in south west and hotels were lovely and clean and masks everywhere a different experience but itʼs life at the moment there is not much we can do about it
We were thinking of hotel break but still a little nervous to do so .feel happier at the moment just limiting contacts . We were due to travel this wk to disneyland but feel its definetely not safe and also government reccomendations
Self catering with Dream Ireland in Kenmare. Very enjoyable. Good social distancing in restaurants in the town.
Beautiful but expensive and no craic
Enjoyed my home & garden!
It was lovely to get away for a break. Very different times. The only thing that would put me off going to hotel again was that you couldn't have a drink in the bar - without buying food. We just had a lovely meal in a fantastic restaurant down the road beforehand. No issue with the 90min rule per say but the food element is nonsense - shouldn't be forced to buy something you don't want - just to have a pint.
Apart from the weather it was lovely
We visited Lough Rynn and the staff and accomodation could not have been better the food was lovely and staff were all wearing PPE which made us feel very safe. Grounds were beautiful for walks and we loved the whole experience
booked a self catering break in dungarvan for one week. had an activity to do every day- greenway, lismore house, mahon falls, train excursion, shopping in waterford, visits to clonea and tramore beaches, trips to dunmore east, copper coast etc. absolutely fantastice family break It was fabulous lovely friendly people
Spent 2 nights at Lough Rynn which was enjoyable
We had a short stay at Kilronan Castle. Loved exploring the grounds and availing of Lough Allen, Co. Leitrim activities.
I loveIreland and am happy to holiday here
Haven't had one yet unfortunately. Still abit nervous and need more reassurance.
Fun family time spent together, we loved it
Seen parts of Ireland would never go to, travelled to Clare Wicklow and Wexford. Tour of lighthouse in hook head was amazing
Very enjoyable but this was helped by nice weather
n/a
We actually went to Wexford, Cork and Kerry but survey only allowed us pick 1 county. All lovely but Dingle overpriced. We went for 10 days and spent twice what we would have abroad as eating out and few drinks much more expensive here in Ireland Didn't take one this summer, but hope to get away soon, autumn maybe?
Due to cocooning and our age we felt it would not be safe at this time, hopefully in the near future
We stayed at the Oriel Hotel in Ballincollig with our 4 children. It was excellent value for money, the facilities were excellent and we felt very safe without being uncomfortable with the restrictions in place.
Excellent relaxed break
Visited more gardens and did walks by sea and woods
didn't enough about the area i went to and was wary of some activities due to Covid
Ease vat, make staycation more affordable. You get a week abroad for 3 day stay here.... a joke...
We went to the North. From Clare to sligo then onto donegal derry and belfast city. Sligo was by far the worst experience. the hotel was so strict it really took away from the enjoyment. The north were so much more relaxed. they had a scheme to reduce prices midweek and it really brought us out. No pubs and no social life really would stop me from travelling in ROI.
Since we live in the United States and travel to Ireland, England, and Europe with out quarantines is not allowed we have written off the year 2020 for overnight visits anywhere until this pandemic is under control.
It was nice to get away in Ireland and see what our country has to offer Had lovely time in two hotels that we normally frequent. First state in b&b and enjoyed.
What amazed me in our hotel was no hand soap in bathroom in bedrooms, when itʼs all about washing your hands surly a little bar of soap could be left ,also breakfast was bit crazy they bring toast out to you but no side plate to use ,so you either use the table or your hand ,also people are not sure weather to wear face masks walking around hotel or not so I believe hotels should state clearly on this ,
Rossnowlagh is a beautiful place to visit and the Sandhouse Hotel offers beautiful views of the beach and sea from every room. The staff were next to none. The surrounding areas are a joy to explore. I highly recommend both the area and hotel if you are worried about social distancing
We booked an airbnb for the major part of our hols because we could keep to ourselves more if need be and had flexability to come & go as we wanted. We planned day trips, where to eat etc. We found it very relaxing and could also bring our dog.
Strange
We had a wonderful stay in the houses on the grounds at Lough Rynn. We were very impressed with the precautions put in place when we eat in the hotel dining room (bar) and with the click & collect service. Our only regret was that our stay was too short!
We stayed at Boyne Valley Glamping B&B, visited Causey Farm, Trim Castle and had a walking tour with Beautiful Meath Tours of Tara Hill. As a tour guide and keen photographer, this socially distanced holiday was perfect for our family. We won a night away with Laois Tourism and will be staying at the Maldron Portlaois this weekend. Our prize includes 1 night HB, a tour and entrance to Castleview Open Farm - looking forward to it. I feel its very important to support Irish tourism and hospitality. Hotel adhered strictly to covid guidelines. Social distance observed. Plenty of sanitizing stations in situ.
BEAUTIFUL HOTEL BUT IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE OVERALL
2 night stay in a Select Hotel in Kerry. I would have preferred if there was an option to eat in the hotel. No music or entertainment available either. It was just ok, wouldnʼt return.
Accommodation was fine but the weather was bad
Very positive and relaxing and as always staff were amazing
I believe some hotels shot themselves in the foot as they charged an arm and a leg for a pretty basic amenity. Otehrs by comparison were extremely good value and I expect they will be rewarded with future return visits.
Hotel staff and restaurant food excellent. Didn't like that rooms were not serviced. Poor management of spacing and turnover of tables in restaurant. Felt uncomfortable. Felt that hotel was also at capacity
Question-Why did you not go on a staycation this year?
Answer-Other -
Prefer holiday abroad. Went to Greek island, Paros in July when it was on green list.
Travel Bands Anyway I live in a very beautiful place but I'd love to go to Leitrim where my daughter will soon be living
