From Madrid to Amsterdam in 800 Metres NEWS3/2016 FROM MADRID TO AMSTERDAM IN 800 METRES Bosnian Amel Tuka, winner of the 800 metres in the last edition of Madrid International Athletics Meeting, leader of the 2015 world lists with 1:42.51 and bronze medal in Beijing Worlds, will be the main star in the two laps race, along with Ethiopian Mohamed Aman, double world indoor champion in 2012 and 2014 and with a personal best of 1:42.37, and Antoine Gameke, athlete from Burundi competing with the t‐shirt of Playas de Castellón, silver medalist in Portland this winter. The 800 metres race will be very important for Spanish athletes, because Ramon Cid, RFEA’s technical director and Jorge González Amo, middle distance responsible in the Technical Committee, stablished that the best Spanish athlete in the 800 metres of Madrid International Meeting next 23th June will classify immediately for Amsterdam2016 Europeans in this distance. RFEA, organizer of the competition along with Madrid City Council, will count with these three outstanding athletes and also with the best Spanish runners in the distance starting with Kevin López, Spanish record holder with 1:43.74 and the best performer in Spain this season with 1:45.61; Daniel Andújar, with the same performance this year than Kevin López; Antonio Reina, second in the all‐time Spanish list with 1:43.83; David Palacio, fourth classified in 2016 lists with 1:46.60MMP; Alejandro Estévez, fifth this season with 1:46.63; Luis Alberto Marco (personal best of 1:45.14) and Álvaro de Arriba, silver medalist in the Spanish indoor Championships. In the women’s race also the best Spanish will be selected for the Europeans. We can confirm the participation of Esther Guerrero, current Spanish champion both indoors and outdoors with a personal best this season of 2:01.43; Khadija Rahmouni and Zoya Naumov, also with foreign outstanding athletes like Cuban Sahily Diago (1:57.74), Anhela Petty (NZL, 1:59.06), Rose‐Ann Galligan (IRL, 2:00.58), Lysneydis Veitia (CUB, 2:00.60) or Florina Pierdevara (ROU, 2:00.91). Other events in the Meeting to be underlined will include 100 metres with Spanish record holder Ángel David Rodriguez in action, along with some athletes capable of running under 10 seconds, like Kemar Hyma (CAY) 9.95 or Daniel Bailey (ANT) 9.91. Other of the Spanish stars of the Meeting will be Toni Abadia, current Spanish champion both in 10.000 metres and cross country, who will run the 3.000 metres being his main rival Eritrean Zerseney Tadesse (7:39.93), a magnificent athlete with a dozen of medals (6 of them gold) in World Championships or Olympic Games. In the men’s side we can also point out the discus event with Spanish record holder Mario Pestano, current 2016 Spanish leader Lois Maikel Martínez and double Olympic finalist Frank Casañas. In the women’s events two of the most interesting events will be triple jump and high jump. In the triple jump we have to remark the participation of athlete from Venezuela Yulimar Rojas, who train in Guadalajara with Iván Pedroso and who past March achieved the gold medal in the World Indoor Championships. Other important athletes of this event will be Brazilian Keila Costa (14.58MMP), Portuguse Patrocia Mamona (14.52MMP) and Susana Costa (14.32MMP) and also Spanish Patricia Sarrapio and Ana Peleteiro. In the high jump we will see in action double European champion and Spanish record holder Ruth Beitia. Athlete from Cantabria will fight for victory with Italian Alessia Trost, who this winter beat Beitia in the Madrid international indoor meeting; Ukranian Oksana Okuneva, 1,98MMP, or Italian Desiree Rossit, with a personal best of 1,97 metres. Obviously, the rest of Spanish specialists in this discipline will also compete like Claudia García, Raquel Álvarez, Gema Martín‐Pozuelo or Cristina Ferrando. .
