Elite Hockey Coaching Workshop On Monday 22nd January 40 girls from Year 7 to 13 were selected to attend a gifted and talented hockey workshop with professional hockey player and Athlete Mentor, Charlotte Hartley. Charlotte is an Ex-England International hockey player who was one of the youngest ever players to be selected to represent England in the 2006 Commonwealth Games where she won a Bronze medal. She also played professionally in Germany, Spain, New Zealand and Canada and now works as an Athlete Mentor with the Youth Sports Trust and Dame Kelly Holmes Trust to inspire and motivate young individuals. Charlotte believes that if you want your life to be a magnificent story, then you need to realise you are the author and every day you have the opportunity to write a new page. G.L.A.M. Girls Active: G.L.A.M Squad is a Youth Sports Trust initiative designed to; provide a support framework for schools to review their PE, sport and physical activity culture and practices to ensure they are relevant and attractive to 11 - 14 year old girls; and uses leadership and peer marketing to empower girls to influence PE, sport and physical activity at school, increase their own participation, develop as role models and ‘sell’ PE, sport and physical activity to other girls. A huge number of applications for places on the Girls Leadership and Management Squad were received post Christmas and 12 successful girls were appointed to fulfil these roles.

Chess Niamh Bridgeman plays for the England Junior Chess Team. She is currently preparing for the World Cadets Championship which will be held in Spain in November. In January she competed in the Prague Open, an international adult chess tournament. She won a cash prize for best grading performance and was the 2nd best junior finisher aged under 12 in a field of over 100 players. In February she debuted for the Manchester Manticores in the very strong adult 4 Nations Chess League held at Bolton, winning a game against a player rated over 400 points higher than her. It is fantastic to see our girls enjoying gymnastics beyond core PE lessons. The Inter-Form Gymnastics competition was a fantastic opportunity for Year 7-9 pupils to show off the skills they had learnt during lessons within their own choreographed routine. This year, some of the most fantastic story telling was on display and we were lucky enough to showcase their talents in our first ever gymnastics evening during January. INTER HOUSE
