Dorms & Institut Catholique are in the Quartier Latin Saint-Germain-des-Prés & Montparnasse areas Map of dorms Program of Study • Students with no prior French or with an elementary level may enroll in either: - Survival French 1 / 2 (LAVC FR 21/22 = 3 units): ESA Faculty or - Survival French 3 (LAVC FR 8 = 2 units): ESA faculty - Elementary French 1 (LAVC FR 1 = 5 units): Local Faculty of the Institut Catholique **Along with one of the above, students may enroll in French 10: Civilization (3 units): with ESA Faculty Survival French Program • Students with no prior French or with an elementary level may enroll in either: - Survival French 1 / 2 (LAVC FR 21/22 = 3 units): ESA Faculty or - Survival French 3 (LAVC FR 8 = 2 units): ESA faculty **Along with one of the above, students may enroll in French 10: Civilization (3 units): ESA Faculty ***Survival French Program cost is $3,400 Institut Catholique de Paris • An internationally recognized private university • Centrally located close to the dorms in Saint Germain-des-Prés • With fine teachers, up-to-date materials, & small classes • Instruction is non-sectarian •Program cost for attendance at Institut Catholique is $4,250. Institut Catholique • Students with no prior French enroll in: - French 1: Elementary French (5 units) • Students with prior French may choose: - French 2: Elementary French (5 units) - French 3 or 4: Intermediate French (5 units) - French 5 or 6: Advanced French (5 units) • All the above may be taken concurrently with French 10: Civilization (3 units) with ESA Faculty. • Depending on course selection, you may earn up to 8 units. • Final course selection will be determined after consulting with the faculty leader. Housing Students stay in one of three well-located dorms in the Saint Germain-des-Prés area or Montparnasse. First dorm option: Foyer des Dominicaines Rue de Condé Rue de Condé Place de l’Odéon Rue de Condé • Historic, built in 1755 • Undergone renovation of bedrooms in the last 5 years • Lively area with cafés, movies, and shops • Each room has private bath with shower & toilet • A few singles available with bath for $450 supplement • Dorm provides: continental breakfast, student kitchen with space to store and prepare food, a tv room, library & wifi • There is an elevator and onsite laundry. Lobby and Dining Room Student Kitchen Shared Twin Room With bath Single Room with bath ($450 supplement) Second dorm option: Foyer de la Sainte Famille Rue Vaugirard Dining room and library Twin and single rooms most without bath Rue de Vaugirard • Built in the 1880’s • Located across from the Institut Catholique • Has both rooms with bath & without • All rooms have a sink • Showers and toilets are down the hall for most • Has a cozy feel, well-supervised by nuns • 5 floors and no elevator • Dorm provides dinner M-F; breakfast is served daily • Dorm has a TV room, library and student kitchen Luxembourg Palace Third dorm option: Enfant Jésus • single rooms with private bath for women only midnight curfew (1:00am Saturdays) includes dinner M-F In the bustling area of Montparnasse, on a quiet street near the Bourdelle Museum Rue Antoine Bourdelle • Built in the 1960’s, more modern, run by nuns • Single rooms with private bath for women ONLY • Breakfast served daily • Dinner M-F. • Dorm has TV room, WIFI and a area to keep food • Onsite laundry and central garden • Dorm located in bustling commercial area • On a quiet street opposite a museum • Dorm has a midnight curfew, except Sat, 1 AM Montparnasse Area Students may also attend a French Civilization course with lectures and many on-site visits. La Sainte Chapelle Place des Vosges Le Maris District Dorms are only a short walk away to metro stations to reach any area of Paris and some important train stations, giving students access to other European countries as well. Easy scan with Navigo pass Cultural activities: concerts, lectures, typically French dinners, Parisian neighborhood visits, day and over-night trips so students can better take advantage of life in Paris and improve their understanding of the French culture.
