Senators Will ‘Get the Job Done’ Steps” to Immediately Disburse the Funds ARAB TIMES, MONDAY, AUGUST 2, 2021 INTERNATIONAL 7 America ‘Eviction moratorium’ Frustration as Biden allows ban to expire WASHINGTON, Aug 1, (AP): Anger and frustra- tion mounted as President Joe Biden showed no signs of reversing plans to allow a nationwide evic- tion moratorium to expire at midnight Saturday — one Democratic lawmaker even camping outside the Capitol in protest as millions of Americans were about to be forced from their homes. Biden’s decision announced days before the evic- tion deadline stunned many in Congress and ex- posed a rare divide between the president and his party, with potential lasting political ramifi cations. Lawmakers said they were blindsided by Biden’s inaction, some furious that he called on Congress to provide a last-minute solution to protect renters that they were unable to deliver. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., the chair of the Fi- nancial Services Committee, said Saturday on CNN: “We thought that the White House was in charge.” One lawmaker, Rep. May 20, 2020 Dear Mr. President, We are writing to ask for your help on an issue that threatens American jobs and outdoor traditions. As anglers, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts we are extremely concerned about a massive open-pit gold and copper mine that a Canadian mining company is proposing to build in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska. The efforts to develop the massive mine in this unique area threaten more than 14,000 American jobs, a fishery worth more than $1.5 billion dollars annually and a sport fishing and hunting paradise. It is considered a world-class fishing destination, which even your son and grandson have enjoyed. If built, the mine would decimate many miles of streams and up to 10 billion tons of mine waste would have to be stored without accident behind earthen dams, forever. The mine is relentlessly opposed by most Alaskans, as well as anglers, hunters and other outdoor recreation businesses from around the country. Preventing this mine from moving forward would protect American jobs, safeguard the culture of rural America, and ensure that our national outdoor heritage prospers. If Theodore Roosevelt were alive today, he would draw the line and stop this mine from jeopardizing so many things Americans value. Please stand up for American businesses, jobs and a hunting and fishing paradise by denying a permit for the proposed Pebble mine. Sincerely, 31,502 American Hunters, Anglers, and Outdoor enthusiasts. Mollie Bernhoft (Anchorage, AK) Kathryn Hunter (South Lake Tahoe, CA) Jacobe Mckittrick (Glenwood Springs, CO)

Congressional Research Service American Jihadist Terrorism: Combating a Complex Threat Jerome P. Bjelopera Specialist in Organized Crime and Terrorism November 15, 2011 Congressional Research Service 7-5700 www.crs.gov R41416 CRS Report for Congress Prepared tar Members and Committees of Congress DHS-01-425-004040 Page 1 of 145 American Jihadist Terrorism: Combating a Complex Threat Summary From May 2009 through October 2011, arrests were made for 32 "homegrown," jihadist-inspired terrorist plots by American citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States. Two of these resulted in attacks—U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan's alleged assault at Fort Hood in Texas and Abdulhakim Muhammed's shooting at the U.S. Army-Navy Career Center in Little Rock, AR—and produced 14 deaths. By comparison, in more than seven years from the September 11, 2001, terrorist strikes (9/11) through April 2009, there were 21 such plots. Two resulted in attacks, and no more than six plots occurred in a single year (2006). The apparent spike in such activity from May 2009 to October 2011 suggests that at least some Americans—even if a tiny minority—continue to be susceptible to ideologies supporting a violent form of jihad. This report describes homegrown violent jihadists and the plots and attacks that have occurred since 9/11. For this report, "homegrown" and "domestic" are terms that describe terrorist activity or plots perpetrated within the United States or abroad by American citizens, legal permanent residents, or visitors radicalized largely within the United States. The term "jihadist" describes radicalized individuals using Islam as an ideological and/or religious justification for their belief in the establishment of a global caliphate, or jurisdiction governed by a Muslim civil and religious leader known as a caliph.
