Page 2 J ARBITER J 'January 24, 19n opinionII I It's that time of year again when the University" of Idaho Alumni Association holds its annual meeting under an assumed name -- the Idaho State Legislature. This year it looks like the dedicated friends of Idaho's overendowed land-grant college are going to give their alma mater agift-- a $100,000 special appropriation to the U. of I. Law School, apparently because that school's accreditation is endangered. The $100,000 grant is probably justified; Idaho has a reasonably good law school and it's getting better. If it's in trouble, it should be bailed out. The point that sticks in the throats of Boise State University students and supporters is not that Idaho's law schoolwill undoubtedly get the money. Rather, it's the fact that BSU has faced (and is facing) the same danger of, non-accreditation on a campus-wide basis, and the legislature has made little more than token gestures to stop it. , Accrediting committees from the Northwest Association for t Secondary and Higher Schools (the organization with which BSU I is accredited) have continually warned regents, administrators' and lawmakers that problems like overcrowding of classrooms the fifth column -----------------. and overloading of instructors threatens the ability of the University to provide quality education. The response from the legislature has been less than Nixon's· suffering, VFW gratifying. Idaho legislators seem more concerned with, providing the U. of 1. with frills than helping BSU make ends meet. As a result, Boise State students have borne the brunt of the state's responsibility. Only three major buildings on the blacklisting and 'right-to-work' campus have been built with money appropriated by the legislature. The rest were paid for by student fees and BJC totalitarian society like the Soviet Union, but it bonds. At times it seems like the only connection BSp has with by Chuck Bufe clearly has no place in a society that regards the state is its name. Lest anyone be concerned, Richard "He's It has been said that-the trend is changing, that the legislature suffered enough" Nixon will not be languishing itself as free.

Vol. I, No.8 The Monthly Newsmagazine Of Boise State University Boise, Idaho April, 1976 Budget: Won Some LostSoine It was a "won some, lost some" result for Boise State University when the State Board of Education put its final stamp on the school's operating budget allocation from state tax funds April 1 in Pocatello. BSU got an eleven percent allocation increase for 1976-77, a total of $13.7 million. That compared to $12.3 million this year, and it is the highest percent age increase awarded among the three universities. The allocation still left BSU far behind the University of Idaho in total budget allocation dollars. UI received a $22.6 million allocation, compared to $21.5 million in its current budget. Thus, UI gets a five percent allocation increase. Idaho State University was awarded $15.5 million for fiscal 1976-77, a seven percent increase over the $14.4 million in its current budget. This sec tion is a tribute to those people who com bine both. Individuals who go out for an athletic team deserve this recognition whether they are the stars or the average player as they all have one thing in com mon , the desire to achieve. This desire is spreading not only in athletics but also in the school itself, for Boise State Uni versity is not only becoming a represent ative of Boise City, but also the entire state of Idaho. I would like to thank the graduating sen iors for installing this desire to achieve into the new members of the teams. it is my hope and prayer that this desire is passed on with added enthusiasm to grow bigger and stronger along with the achievements of Boise State Athletics Brad Allred Coming From All Walks Of Life, The University Bound Us Together So That We Must Develop Our Lives Into A Sharing Experience 17 Bronco Football 1976 The football season of 1976 will long be remembered in the minds of a lot of people.
