JSS Mahavidyapeetha, our sponsoring society was the backbone providing all the support and encouragement to the University in all its ventures. JSS University has embraced globalization as its new reality and embarked on the international path through strategic initiatives aiming to leave behind global footprints!! 1 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 2 2 3 3 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the present pontiff and the 24th Peethadhyaksha of Sri Jagadguru Veerasimhasana Suttur Math, assumed the Peetha in 1986 at the young age of 29 years. He had his spiritual training under the guidance of his illustrious predecessor His Holiness Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the founder president of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, an educational and cultural organization dedicated to the ideal of providing education to the villages of Karnataka. His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the Honourable Chancellor of JSS University - a visionary, endeavored not only to cross the Vindhyas and establish engineering colleges, schools, etc at NOIDA (UP), and the JSS Spiritual and Cultural Centre at New Delhi but also travelled beyond the shores of the country and established the presence of the Math in USA, Mauritius and Dubai. His efforts to reach out to the core of the problems that challenge our society be it literacy , health care, employment or building values amongst the society is lauded and recognized by one and all. It is His Vision that has taken the University to achieve significant milestones in a short span of six years and be recognized as one of the most progressive universities in the field of Health Sciences. 4 CHANCELLor’S MESSAGE JSS University completes six glorious years and is marching ahead to reach new heights of excellence. When we look back to the days of its inception, the University has surely come a long way, taking up many tasks, facing many challenges, and having many achievements, within a short span of time. We are happy that the University has secured ‘A’ Grade by the NAAC, which is a symbolic nod to our mission of offering quality education. We attribute this success to the able leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, committed faculty members and focused students, who are the nucleus of this institution. Over the years, the University has witnessed expansion and excellence. There is an increase in the number of graduates coming out of its portal every year. We believe that possessing knowledge and having the ability to use that knowledge in the global scenario is critical to personal and societal advancement. The University should continue to nurture an environment that facilitates the exchange of information and ideas which ultimately formulate knowledge. A university has multi-dimensional facets. It should engage vigorously in teaching, research and outreach activities. JSS University, as a knowledge society, is not only accountable to its students and staff but also to the community and the country at large by taking the responsibility of moulding its graduates into global citizens. As a higher education service provider, the University is aware of the dynamic transition happening due to globalization. It has accepted these challenges and adopted various global initiatives. The annual report is an assessment of globalization and internationalization which reflect in the endeavours of the University. We call upon the university to strive for newer heights and bring laurels in the international arena and evolve itself into a Global University in the years to come. Service to society has traditionally been the forte of JSS organization, and, we hope JSS University will widen its international horizons, offering unique combinations of global and local utility. We certainly appreciate what the university has achieved, so far, and try to reinvent itself not only in imparting knowledge but also to meeting the growing demands of the times. They shall always set higher goals and strive hard to achieve them. The Annual Report of the University is presented to the society, as a stock-taking exercise, and its active co- operation is always solicited. Shubham Bhooyath. H.H. Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji Chancellor 5 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 Sri.B.N.Betkerur Executive Secretary 6 EXECUTIVE SECRETARY True leadership, is the ability to move people to change. The ability to lead comes from within and great leaders, those with whom people connect with on an emotional level and who can inspire change, emerge only after experiencing things as they are in the real world. Sri BN Betkerur has been associated with the JSS Mahavidyapeetha for more than three decades providing academic leadership to the University, to help drive strategy and policy development. His experience in serving the government as well as private organizations has been a boon to the institution. As higher education has grown and expanded, it has also become more international. Just as university education has become more global, so it has become more competitive. As we are the “supply side” of higher education we need to keep up with developments and spare a thought for the students and prospective students who make up the “demand side”. Since our mission is to serve society, we have a responsibility to explain what we do: in education, in research, and in outreach. There should be a new drive for efficiency and productivity in higher education and JSS University should strive hard in evolving as a truly world class university- A vision for 2020 PROFILE Sri. B.N Betkerur was born in a lower middle class family. His father, who had a big family to support, educated him at considerable sacrifice. After completion of Masters in English and LLB from Karnataka University, he worked as a lecturer in English till 1962. He then joined KAS and was promoted as an IAS Officer. He held several positions in the Government of Karnataka. In the year 1990, he retired as Secretary, Health. He was invited by His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, President of JSS Mahavidyapeetha to work as its Executive Secretary. Eversince, Sri B.N.Betkerur has been relentlessly providing his intellectual inputs and administrative services for the betterment of the institution and is an ideal example of dynamic leadership. 7 ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14 8 JSSU LEADERSHIP TEAM HONORABLE MEMBERS OF BOARD OF MANAGEMENT HOn’bLE JUSTICE SRI SHIVARAJ PATIL SRI. MYSORE DIOCESAN BULLETIN MDB 04/2018 JULY - AUGUST Sanmaargi to shepherd HIS flock Bishop’s House, #2939, P. B. No. 12 Mother Theresa Road Lashkar Mohalla, Mysuru 1 MDB 04/2018 JULY - AUGUST- 2018 1) THE FEAST OF ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE: The Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle is celebrated on the 3rd of July every year. St. Thomas is well remembered in India specially for his apostolate of proclamation. The feast of St. Thomas the Apostle calls on us to embark upon a deep faith, exploring the ultimate truths that look beyond externals. Let us pray specially for the Church in India. Let the Lord enable us to give priority to the mission of evangelization in our ministry. On this day, it is also the Patron’s day of our Bishop Emeritus - Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly. We shall specially pray for the intentions of our Bishop Emeritus. 2)THE FEAST OF JOHN MARIE VIANNEY - PATRON OF PRIESTS: As we are celebrating the feast of St. John Marie Vianney, the Patron of all the Priests on 4th August, let the flame of love and solidarity be experienced in our priests and be witness to the parishioners. Fr. Vianney celebrated Mass early in the morning and it was apparent to everyone that he was fulfilling the Sacrifice of the Son of God on the Cross. His parishioners flocked to him for 2 confession and felt the joy of God’s forgiveness and of conversion. He listened, understood, read their minds, prompted repentance and comforted them. Ars became the European capital of reconciliation with God: men and women from across Europe and around the world would set out for France because they truly believed that in an out-of-the-way French village, a priest consumed by prayer and penance was speaking of God, hearing confessions and guiding souls to holiness.

  • Potential Predictors of Prolonged Hospital Stay in Operated Traumatic Brain Injury at Tertiary Center in Northern India: Retrospective Analysis
International Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery25 Original Article Volume 9 Number 1, January - June 2017 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21088/ijnns.0975.0223.9117.4 Potential Predictors of Prolonged Hospital Stay in Operated Traumatic Brain Injury at Tertiary Center in Northern India: Retrospective Analysis Harsha A. Huliyappa*, Manish Jaiswal**, Bal Krishna Ojha***, Sunil Kumar Singh****, Anil Chandra****, Chhitij Srivastava***** Abstract Objective: Establishing a reliable prognosis after surgery for traumatic brain injury(TBI) is difficult. Majority of the prognostic models help in morbidity and mortality assessment. In a developing country, unexpected prolonged hospital stay can have a cumulative effect on limited hospital resources and lessen the caretaker’s compliance. Patients &Methods: Records of 256 patients who had hospital stay for more than 15 days during a period of 3 years were obtained and grouped into 15-30 days (Group 1) and > 30 days (Group 2) of hospital stay groups. Demographic data, comorbid factors, mode of injury, Glasgow coma scale (GCS), pupil status, Computed tomography (CT) features, tracheostomy, associated significant injuries, septic foci with cultures and second-surgeries were compared and analyzed. Results: In Group 1, age<50 years, GCS:3-5 at presentation, bilateral fixed but normal sized pupils, bilateral fixed and dilated pupils, CT features of Extradural hematoma (EDH), subdural hematoma (SAH), cerebral edema & Midline Shift (MLS) of >6mm were found to be significantly associated with prolonged stay (p<0.001).
