EVORA – the first new model to be introduced by LOTUS in 13 years, was unveiled at the British Motorshow in July 2008 to rave reviews from the foreign media. EXORA – the country’s first homegrown MPV, was officiated by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak in the presence of ‘Bapa PROTON’ Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. From our first ever production, the Saga, to the latest launch of the Exora - Malaysia’s first home-grown MPV, the brand has indeed been faithfully planning, designing, and manufacturing cars with Malaysians’ needs and wants in mind. It is an integral part of our business and our brand, without which, we would not have either share of market or share of heart. 1985 marked a momentous year in Malaysia’s history – it was the year in which the country’s first national car was born. Today, PROTON has emerged as the only full-fledged car manufacturer in the country.     MEDIA RELEASE IMMEDIATE RELEASE DRB-HICOM, GEELY, REACH ACCORD Heads of agreement signed; Definitive Agreement by mid- July PUTRAJAYA, 24 May 2017: DRB-HICOM Berhad (DRB-HICOM) has reached an agreement with China-based Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd (Geely Holding) for the Chinese car group to acquire 49.9% equity in PROTON Holdings Berhad. DRB-HICOM currently owns 100% of the manufacturer of the first national car. The two parties signed the agreement in Putrajaya today, witnessed by YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, the Minister of Finance II. The deal will enable PROTON to tap into Geely Holding’s vast range of platforms and powertrains, and will also enable PROTON to have access to existing markets of the Chinese carmaker, as well as right-hand drive markets in south-east Asia. DRB-HICOM Group Managing Director, Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar says the PROTON brand will remain present and will grow significantly with the new foreign strategic partner on board. “Our intention was always to ensure the revitalization of the PROTON nameplate. It was Malaysia’s first national car brand and has more than 30 years of history. This deal will be the catalyst to elevate a brand that Malaysians resonate with,” said Syed Faisal. Geely Holding Group Executive Vice President and CFO Mr. Daniel Donghui Li commented, “With PROTON and Lotus joining the Geely Group portfolio of brands we strengthen our global foot print and develop a beachhead in South East Asia. Raja Ahmad Azmeer Raja Ahmad Effendi Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Faculty of Design Swinburne University of Technology 2011 ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Malaysia is unique within the Islamic world in developing a motor car industry that is geared towards both internal and export markets. After achieving initial success, its export performance has failed to match that of its international competitors. Factors that are suspected to contribute to this failure is in the technology and styling of its models. Moreover, with the implementation of AFTA (Asean Free Trade Area) in Malaysia, the car industry is expected to face the influx of inexpensive established brands from ASEAN countries which will gradually dominate the local market. The research was cross-cultural and tested for possible differences based on nationality and gender. It used qualitative and quantitative techniques consisting of a Car Positioning Task using Semantic Differential scales and a derivation of the Room Effect method in order to investigate the perception of cars and its effect upon the perception of its owner. The pilot and actual surveys using Room Effect method were carried out with international participants. The results indicated that it is reliable and can be used to reveal cultural and gender differences. Since the publication of the Bass model in 1969, innovation of new diffusion theory has sparked considerable research among marketing science scholars, operational researchers and mathematicians. The building of Bass diffusion model for forecasting new product within the Malaysian society is presented in this study. The proposed model represents the spread level of new Proton car among a given set of the society in terms of a simple mathematical function that elapsed since the introduction of the new car. With the limited amount of data available for the new car, a robust Bass model was developed to forecast the sales volume. A procedure of the proposed diffusion model was designed and the parameters were estimated. Results obtained by applying the proposed model and numerical calculation shows that the proposed diffusion model is robust and effective for forecasting demand of new Proton car. The proposed diffusion model is shown to forecast more effectively and accurately even with insufficient previous data on the new product.
