LSS Security Message “Run. Hide. Fight.” Sadly, by now you have all heard the term Active Shooter - a person who attempts to shoot people in a confined space with no intention to negotiate. This past Sunday’s New York Times had an article called “In Mass Attacks, Public Now Advised to Take Action.” The story covers the new strategy in the face of attacks. Don’t be passive. Flee, hide or fight. It recalled the April 2007 Virginia Tech massacre where 32 students were killed and noted the heroic act of Prof. Liviu Librescu , a Holocaust survivor who told his students to jump out the second-story window while he tried to hold the classroom door shut, delaying the shooter from coming in. Professor Librescu was killed, but many of the students survived, and only three were injured by gunfire. The Times article also mentioned a 6-minute instructional video produced by the Houston, Texas police department that has gone viral entitled “Run. Hide. Fight: Surviving an Active Shooter Event.” Did you know that the LSS Security Committee showed this video weeks ago in our Belfer Beit Midrash as part of the hour-long LSS Security Awareness training? If you missed the training you can still see the 6-minute video on YouTube and learn strategies to save your life in the event that you face an Active Shooter at work or G-d forbid in shul. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcSwejU2D0 . Lesson Learned: Please attend our security trainings. Questions? Contact the LSS head of security Harvey Stein at [email protected] or speak to any one of us who stand guard on Shabbos to learn more. In Shul by Alan Zwiebel BUILDING UPDATE April 12, 2013
