The Second World War saw the area being used for ‘Final Live Fire’ military training; and in the 1970s the land was converted back to grazing as well as a training ground for greyhounds and racehorses. In 1994, the Government’s Nature Search Program located over 100 different species of reptiles, birds and mammals in the area, including several rare species such as the Wallum Froglet, Chestnut Teal, Black-necked Stork, Glossy-Black Cockatoo and Powerful Owl.  COOMERA MARINE PRECINCT - valued at $500 million and located adjacent to the existing marine precinct in Coomera. The project is expected to create 4,000 jobs during construction and 5,500 upon becoming operational and will have an operating revenue of approximately $250 million per annum.

EXPANSION - the multimillion dollar upgrade will transform the airport into a major business centre and will enable the airport to cope with the increase in domestic and international tourists. Stage one of the development will include a three level extension to the terminal and three aircraft stands with two new aerobridges. The first stage is due for completion late 2017.

 YATALA ENTERPRISE AREA (YEA) - several multi-million dollar projects are currently underway in the YEA, facilitating employment for hundreds of local workers. Such major projects include the Empire Industrial Estate which will ultimately comprise of 250 buildings and create up to 5,000 new local jobs.

 COOMERA TOWN CENTRE - the first stage of the $1.5 billion Westfield shopping centre located along Foxwell Road in Coomera has been approved. The shopping centre will capitalise on the northern Gold Coast’s growing population and will rival other shopping centres in the region with 100,000 square metres of retail space. The centre will house several major retailers including Myer, as well as two supermarkets and over 150 retail stores.

 GOLD COAST LIGHT RAIL - valued at $420 million. Stage two of the Gold Coast Light Rail is expected to commence mid 2016 with completion in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Stage two will complete the missing link between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and will provide an immediate boost to the construction industry, supporting 1,000 new jobs. The 7.3 kilometre extension will connect the existing light rail system at Gold Coast University Hospital station to heavy rail at Helensvale station.

 COOMERA SPORTS STADIUM - valued at $52 million and located on Beattie Road in Coomera. Construction has commenced on the stadium which will become one of the key locations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The 7,500 seat facility will cover 10,000 square metres and will host the netball and gymnastics during the games. Completion of the stadium is anticipated late 2016.

 PACIFIC FAIR REDEVELOPMENT - valued at $670 million and located 30 kilometres south of Pimpama in Broadbeach. The massive development which will create Queensland’s largest shopping centre commenced January 2014 and is expected to create approximately 1,115 construction jobs and 1,540 new retail jobs.  COOMERA URBAN VILLAGE - valued at $8.8 million and to be located at the junction of Foxwell Road and Finnegan Way in Coomera. Construction of the shopping area is expected to commence mid 2016 with the project taking approximately 12 months. Businesses earmarked for the centre include a 7- Eleven service station, dentist, child care centre and Chinese restaurant.

 COOMERA SQUARE - previously known as Coomera City Centre, the shopping centre located on the corner of Days Road and Coach Road in Coomera. The centre has recently expanded to include a range of retailers including a Dan Murphy’s bottle shop, the Coomera Tavern, a Shell service station and Zarraffa’s coffee shop.

 KINGS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE - valued at $30 million. The brand new school located in Pimpama recently opened in January 2015. Currently catering for childcare, pre-prep and prep to year three, an additional grade will be introduced each year from 2016. The school is expected to boast an enrolment of 1,500 students and 300 teachers upon completion.

Population The Gold Coast is in the midst of a population boom, with growth rates surpassing those of all Australian capital cities. According to recent data published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, figures show that between 2006 and 2011 Pimpama grew by over 67%, making it the fastest growing suburb on the Gold Coast.

The population of the region is expected to continue to grow by 13,000 to 16,000 people per year, resulting in a population of over 730,000 residents by 2026. The current population of Pimpama stands at 3,211 residents.
