MEET THE METS: The Mets have now won three consecutive games against the Cubs for the fi rst time since September 6, 2009 - April 20, 2010…prior to the 2015 NLCS, the Cubs had won nine consecutive games against the Mets dating back to August 16, 2014. WE’RE GOING STREAKING: With tonight’s win, the Mets have won four consecutive postseason games dating back to Game 5 of the NLDS vs. LAD, tie for the second-longest playoff winning streak in franchise history (also October 4-12, 2006 and October 12-16, 1969))…New York is one game shy of the franchise-long postseason winning streak of fi ve games set from October 5-12, 2000. IN THE BIG INNING: The Mets have scored in the fi rst inning in all three games during the NLCS (fi ve total runs)…overall, New York has scored in the fi rst inning in four consecutive postseason games (since Game 5 of the NLDS)(six total runs). deGROMINATION: With the victory this evening, Jacob deGrom has now won each of his three starts this postseason (Game 1 NLDS, Game 5 NLDS, Game 3 NLCS)…he is now the second starter in Mets franchise history to win three consecutive postseason starts, joining Jerry Koosman who did so spanning the 1969 and 1973 postseasons…on that end, deGrom is the fi rst pitcher in Mets history and the 20th pitcher in Major League history to win each of his fi rst three postseason starts and the fi rst since STL Michael Wacha did so during the 2013 playoffs. • deGrom has won each of his fi rst three starts this postseason, all of which have been on the road, matching a Major League record for most wins on the road in a single postseason, joining Madison Bumgarner (2014), Cliff Lee (2010), Freddy Garcia (2005) and John Smoltz (1996). • With seven strikeouts this evening, deGrom has 27 strikeouts this postseason, the third-most in franchise history for a single postseason, trailing only Tom Seaver in 1973 (35) and Al Leiter in 2000 (31). • deGrom’s 27 strikeouts are the 4th-most strikeouts by a player in fi rst 3 career postseason games. METS CONTINUED THEY GONE: The Mets starting staff has 65 strikeouts thus far this postseason, already the third-most in franchise postseason history, trailing only the 2000 staff (77) and 1973 starting staff (76)…the 65 strikeouts are the most this postseason by any starting rotation in baseball. IT’S ALL IN THE FAMILIA: Jeurys Familia recorded his fi fth save of the postseason, extending his Mets postseason saves record…prior to Fa- milia, the record was shared by Armando Benitez (3), Tug McGraw (3) and Billy Wagner (3)…has now recorded a save in four consecutive games dating back to Game 5 of the NLDS. • Has allowed just two hits and one walk in 8.2 scoreless innings this postseason. CAN’T SPELL ‘MURPHY’ WITHOUT ‘HR’: Daniel Murphy hit his sixth home run of the postseason and his third of the NLCS with his solo shot in the third inning off Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks… his home run total is a new Mets all-time postseason home run record, surpassing the previous record held by Mike Piazza (5). • Murphy’s six home runs this postseason extends the Mets single-postseason record…prior to Murphy this season, the previous team record for homers in CONSECUTIVE POSTSEASON GAMES WITH A HR, a single postseason was four, held by Carlos Delgado in 2006, Mike Piazza in ALL-TIME 2000 and Rusty Staub in 1973. Jeffrey Leonard SFG 4 10/6/1987 - 10/10/1987 Reggie Jackson NYY 4 10/15/1977 - 10/3/1978 • His six home runs are tied for the seventh-most in postseason history and the most Lou Gehrig NYY 4 10/5/1928 - 9/28/1932 since TEX Nelson Cruz tied the Major League record with eight home runs during the 2011 postseason. • Murphy’s six home runs are tied for the second-most ever in a player’s fi rst eight career postseason games (and the most by a Met), trailing only Carlos Beltran (7). • His home run total is the most by a Major Leaguer this postseason. • Murphy has now logged an RBI in seven of New York’s eight postseason games this season (nine RBI total), including at least one in each of the last six contests, a new franchise record…Murphy surpasses Edgardo Alfonzo, who had an RBI in fi ve straight games from Game 2 of the NLDS - Game 2 of the NLCS in 2000. • Murphy’s six-game postseason RBI streak is tied for the sixth-longest in MLB history and the longest since PIT Pedro Alvarez also had a six-game streak from October 1 - 9, 2013. CESPEDES FOR THE REST OF US: Yoenis Cespedes has at least one hit in 15 of his 18 career postseason games...Cespedes has two home runs and six RBI in eight games this postseason and is hitting .273 (9-for-33)..is hitting .315 (23-for-73) with three home runs and 12 RBI during his postseason career. RBI STRIKEOUT: Michael Conforto logged the go-ahead RBI after he struck out on a wild pitch in the sixth inning…it was the second go-ahead RBI on a strikeout in postseason history, joining TEX David Murphy, who recorded an RBI strikeout in Game 2 of the 2011 ALDS (Adrian Beltre scored). THE GRANDY-MAN CAN: Curtis Granderson has reached base safely in all eight games this postseason, hitting .321 (9-for-28) in that time… his post- season on-base streak is the longest by a Mets player since Shawn Green also had an eight-game postseason on-base streak in 2006. CAPTAIN MET: David Wright recorded his fi rst career three-hit postseason game as well as his second career multi-hit postseason game and his fi rst since Game 1 of the 2006 NLDS, his fi rst career playoff game, when he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI vs. Los Angeles. • Entering play tonight, Wright had two hits in seven games this postseason. CUBS NOTES LIVING BY LONG BALL: Of the 29 runs the Cubs have scored this postseason, 21 have come via a home run (72.4%). • The Cubs have hit 15 home runs this postseason, already the second-highest total in franchise postseason history, trailing only the 17 they hit during the 2003 playoffs…the 15 homers are also the highest total by any team this postseason and account for 28.8% of their hit total (15 HR/52 hits).
