Shlesinger III Will be ordained as an Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta on Wednesday, July 19 th , 2017 July 16, 2017 July St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church Page 2 July16, 2017 From the Pastor: This Wednesday, Bishop Elect Bernard Shlesinger III (known as “Bishop Ned”), will be ordained as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Bishop Ned brings a range of lived experiences to this position. A graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, retiring in 1990. That is when he began his seminary formation. He received a degree in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University as well as course work in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy. In 1996 he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Raleigh. During his time of service to the Diocese of Raleigh, Bishop Ned was a parochial vicar, then a pastor, assistant director of vocations, and director of vocations and seminary formation for the Diocese. As he is fluent in Spanish, he has also served as administrator for several Spanish speaking parishes. Bishop-designate Shlesinger will become a bishop by the laying on of hands and prayer of consecration, similar to the ritual of a priest’s ordination on Wednesday, July 19th. The preceding evening, the priest of the Archdiocese will gather to pray with and for the Bishop Elect. Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory is to be the consecrator. Bishop Luis R. Zarama, newly named bishop of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, of Arlington, Virginia, are the co-consecrators. The Vespers service is closed to priests and the Mass of Episcopal Ordination is by ticket only. However, both can be seen live online. All are invited to watch both liturgies at www.livestream.com/ctk. Bishop Luis Zarama has been named the Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina announced on July 5. Bishop Zarama, who has served as both a priest and auxiliary Bishop for the Atlanta Archdiocese will be missed. As he becomes the Ordinary for the Raleigh Diocese, Archbishop Gregory on our behalf, promised “him our affectionate best wishes and congratulations” along with our prayers. His installation will be August 29th. See you at Mass, The Archdiocese of Atlanta welcomes two new priests! The new priests are Father Bryan Kuhr, 36, (first assignment is at St. Benedict Church in Johns Creek) and Father Bradley Starr, 31, (first assignment is St. Patrick Church in Norcross). They were ordained at the Cathedral of Christ the King on June 24th. 11330 Woodstock Road Roswell, GA 30075 Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 SUNDAY MASS SCHEDULE Saturday 4:30 pm Vigil Mass* Take Me Out To A Ball Game Sunday 7:30 am | 9:00 am* | 10:45 am* SPC Night at the Atlanta Braves 12:15 pm* | 5:00 pm *Nursery available Please join us on Saturday, August 5th for the 7 pm DAILY MASS SCHEDULE Atlanta Braves vs Miami Marlins game. D., Bishop of Kansas City, Missouri The Redemptorist Fathers of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish wish to express their deep feelings of gratitude to our Right Reverend Bishop for his kindly greeting and words of commendation to the priests and people of our parish. We trust that in the future, as in the past, we shall ever strive to give comfort to the heart of our good Bishop who has ever shown himself so kind and affable toward us. To his faithful priests also, secular and religious, we extend our thanks, who since the Redemptorist Fathers’ advent in the diocese have ever been to us true friends, and with us earnest and exemplary co-workers. To the People of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and All Friends This little souvenir which we send forth to our people on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of our parish carries with it most sincere wishes to each and all. Though its imperfections be many, we trust you will receive it in the spirit in which it was conceived. We thought that a brief review of our stay in your midst for the past fifty years might not be unwelcome. We have worked and struggled through many hard and difficult situations together with you. Your interests, spiritual and temporal, have always been our interests; your happiness has always been to us a source of joy; your sorrows have made us sad, and we have rejoiced in your triumphs.
