  • Blaenau Gwent Welsh District Council Elections Results 1973-1991
Blaenau Gwent Welsh District Council Elections Results 1973-1991 Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher The Elections Centre Plymouth University The information contained in this report has been obtained from a number of sources. Election results from the immediate post-reorganisation period were painstakingly collected by Alan Willis largely, although not exclusively, from local newspaper reports. From the mid- 1980s onwards the results have been obtained from each local authority by the Elections Centre. The data are stored in a database designed by Lawrence Ware and maintained by Brian Cheal and others at Plymouth University. Despite our best efforts some information remains elusive whilst we accept that some errors are likely to remain. Notice of any mistakes should be sent to [email protected]. The results sequence can be kept up to date by purchasing copies of the annual Local Elections Handbook, details of which can be obtained by contacting the email address above. Front cover: the graph shows the distribution of percentage vote shares over the period covered by the results. The lines reflect the colours traditionally used by the three main parties. The grey line is the share obtained by Independent candidates while the purple line groups together the vote shares for all other parties. Rear cover: the top graph shows the percentage share of council seats for the main parties as well as those won by Independents and other parties. The lines take account of any by- election changes (but not those resulting from elected councillors switching party allegiance) as well as the transfers of seats during the main round of local election.

1 Town Tree Cover in Blaenau Gwent County Borough Understanding canopy cover to better plan and manage our urban trees 2 Foreword Introducing a world-first for Wales is a great pleasure, particularly as it relates to greater knowledge about the hugely valuable woodland and tree resource in our towns and cities. We are the first country in the world to have undertaken a country-wide urban canopy cover survey. The resulting evidence base set out in this supplementary county specific study for Blaenau Gwent County Borough will help all of us - from community tree interest groups to urban planners and decision-makers in local Emyr Roberts Diane McCrea authorities and our national government - to understand what we need to do to safeguard this powerful and versatile natural asset. Trees are an essential component of our urban ecosystems, delivering a range of services to help sustain life, promote well-being, and support economic benefits. They make our towns and cities more attractive to live in - encouraging inward investment, improving the energy efficiency of buildings – as well as removing air borne pollutants and connecting people with nature. They can also mitigate the extremes of climate change, helping to reduce storm water run-off and the urban heat island. Natural Resources Wales is committed to working with colleagues in the Welsh Government and in public, third and private sector organisations throughout Wales, to build on this work and promote a strategic approach to managing our existing urban trees, and to planting more where

This branch is closing – but we're still here to help Our Abertillery branch is closing on Friday 10 May 2019 Reasons for closure, and alternative ways to bank This branch is closing – but your bank is always open This first booklet will help you understand why we’ve made the decision to close this branch. It also sets out the banking services and support that will be available to you after this branch has closed. In a second booklet, which will be available from the branch prior to it closing or online at home.barclays/ukbranchclosures, we'll share concerns and feedback from the local community. We'll also detail how we are helping people transition from using the branch with alternative ways to carry out their banking requirements. Here are the main reasons why the Abertillery branch is closing: • The number of transactions has gone down in the previous 24 months, and additionally 74% of our branch customers also use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone. • Customers using other ways to do their banking has increased by 23% since 2012. • In the past 12 months, 28% of this branch's customers have been using neighbouring branches. • We've identified that only 313 customers use this branch exclusively for their banking Proposals to close any branch are made by the Barclays local leadership teams and verified at a national level ahead of any closure announcement. If you have any questions and concerns about these changes then please feel free to get in touch with Richard Stockland, your Community Banking Director for Gloucester Worcester & the Valleys.
