  • NFL's Week 7 Preview
FIRST-EVER NFL GAME AT LONDON’S TWICKENHAM STADIUM AMONG WEEK 7 HIGHLIGHTS The NFL rolls into Week 7 with 14 teams with two losses or fewer, including the league’s lone unbeaten club, the Minnesota Vikings (5-0), who are looking to improve to 6-0. Since 1990, when the current 12-team playoff format was adopted, 34 of the 36 previous teams (94.4 percent) that started 6-0 made the playoffs, 75 of the previous 91 clubs (82.4 percent) that started 5-1 advanced to the postseason and 117 of 185 teams (63.2 percent) that started 4-2 qualified for the playoffs. However, there’s still plenty of football left to be played and things can change quickly. Since 1990, 84 clubs have made the playoffs after starting 3-3 or worse. Last year, four teams with a losing record through six games advanced to the postseason – Houston (2-4), Seattle (2-4), Washington (2-4) and Kansas City (1-5). “It’s huge to get a win,” said New York Giants linebacker JONATHAN CASILLAS after the team’s 27-23 victory over Baltimore which evened the Giants’ record at 3-3. “It’s not going to get any easier going down the stretch for the rest of these games, so we had to win this game.” The next stretch of games for New York starts this Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams (9:30 AM ET, NFLN) at London’s Twickenham Stadium, the first-ever NFL game at the UK’s famed rugby venue.

  • O'halloran: Broncos Trading for Joe Flacco Will Be a Boon Behind The
O’Halloran: Broncos trading for Joe Flacco will be a boon behind the scenes — and bring a sigh of relief for Vic Fangio By Ryan O’Halloran The Denver Post February 14, 2019 Ten thoughts for new Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco and his 10 career postseason wins: 1. I was guilty of overthinking the Broncos’ plans. I thought Option A might be keeping Case Keenum to begin the season but then giving the 10th overall pick (or higher) a chance to play with an eye toward 2020. Uh, not quite. The Broncos went the Conventional Route. They targeted a veteran quarterback and traded for him. Neat and simple. They also went the Old-School Route. In a developing era of mobile quarterbacks, the Broncos acquired themselves a gunslinger. 2. Flacco was 4-3 all-time against the Broncos (nine touchdowns, five interceptions). At Mile High, he won 38-35 in January 2013 (playoffs), lost 49-27 in the 2013 season opener and lost 19-13 in the 2015 season opener. The playoff win was memorable. Flacco threw a 70-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. The Ravens finished that season by beating San Francisco in the Super Bowl. 3. Flacco is 34 years old. He has never been to the Pro Bowl. He lost his job to a rookie last year. But for a fourth-round pick, he is worth the risk … and, really, it’s not a risk. What stands out about him is completion percentage (64.9 and 64.1 his last two full years), his durability (played all 16 games in nine of his 10 years) and his playoff form (10 wins).

  • Broncos Combine Notes: Billy Turner Remains on Radar, but Not Antonio Brown by Mike Klis 9NEWS Feb
Broncos combine notes: Billy Turner remains on radar, but not Antonio Brown By Mike Klis 9NEWS Feb. 26, 2019 As the Broncos contingent led by John Elway convene on Indianapolis this week for the NFL Combine, there will be two orders of business. One, is getting a feel for free agency. Two is scouting and interviewing up to 60 rookie prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft. Elway beat just about all Broncos to Indianapolis as he began NFL competition meetings on Monday. Adding some form of replay to subjective judgment calls like the pass interference missed in the NFC Championship Game was discussed Monday, although it was characterized as a scratch-the-surface informational meeting. Here are some topics of interest for Broncos fans this week: Antonio Brown The Broncos aren’t interested in the Steelers’ controversial receiver. Among the non-starters is Brown wants to renegotiate his current contract that pays him $15.125 million in 2019; $11.3 million in 2020 and $12.5 million in 2021. To pay that kind of money, AND give up a high-round draft pick – AND have to pay even more to keep Brown happy? It doesn’t make sense. The Broncos need another veteran receiver to add to their group that includes Emmanuel Sanders coming off an Achilles injury, Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick. But it won’t be Antonio Brown. John Brown would make more sense. He developed a strong receiver-quarterback relationship with Joe Flacco in Baltimore last season. From what I've been told, the Broncos are not scared off by John Brown’s sickle cell trait, and a source close to Brown says the receiver is not afraid of Denver’s mile-high altitude as a possible home -- provided the team expresses interest.
