  • Submission: TGA Transparency Review
Ken McLeod , I 3 15 March 2011 TO: THE TRANSPARANCY REVIEW PANEL: [email protected] THERAPEUTIC GOODS ADMINISTRATION • Dear Professor Pearce Re: TGA Review: "Getting Information about Medicines and Medical Devices Made Easier" I refer to the Review of the TGA currently being conducted, and that I notice that I might have missed the date for final submissions. I request that this submission be accepted, as it relates to a matter of public importance; that is the implied endorsement of dangerous and ineffective medical devices by the TGA. I note that the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King, has announced that, "It is now easy for consumers to find 0 product name and the ingredients, de toils about the company, the date a product was approved for use in Australia and importantly any warningsabout the use of the product." 1 .1 read a recent report by Choice magazine on pharmacies. 2 That prompted me to go my local pharmacy last week, and what did I find? Ear candles! I was surprised to see that medical devices that are known to be dangerous and ineffective are on sale at a pharmacy which is part of a national chain, and is supposed to abide by the Pharmacy Guild's Code of Conduct. In fact, "surprised" does not cover my reaction; I was disgusted, horrified, and angry that these gadgets could be on sale legally. I was even more surprised, disgusted, horrified, and angry that these gadgets carried an ARTG number. To the innocent bystander, an ARTG number implies an endorsement from the TGA, after supposedly passing tests for safety and efficacy.

July 21, 2020 VIA ELECTRONIC MAIL The Honorable Joseph J. (“Dr. Mercola”) and his companies (collectively, “Mercola Group”) for false, misleading, and deceptive claims and advertising of products they falsely claim will treat, cure, or prevent COVID-19 infections. We are also sending a similar letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) today. As we set forth in detail below, Mercola Group has been capitalizing on the coronavirus pandemic by advising consumers to purchase vitamins, supplements, and other products sold on its website to prevent or treat the virus. Mercola Group’s website contains many misleading articles, such as “Nutrition and Natural Strategies Offer Hope Against COVID-19,”4 and a “Coronavirus Resource Guide” compiling various unsubstantiated claims about the COVID- fighting properties of various supplements.5 It also offers “medical” advice, including the extraordinarily dangerous and unsubstantiated recommendation that individuals actually try to contract COVID-19 after using the supplements it sells to ameliorate the symptoms.6 Mercola Group and Dr. Mercola make multiple deceptive and unsubstantiated claims in marketing supplements and other products.

  • Reflexology and Cancer by Nicola Ramirez, MFHT, MICHT, MPACT
Reflexology and cancer by Nicola Ramirez, MFHT, MICHT, MPACT Nicola Ramirez investigates the potential benefits of reflexology for cancer patients, drawing upon information from published research papers to supplement her own preliminary study. Abstract The objective of this study is to investigate the ways in which reflexology may benefit cancer patients. I will identify any factors during a reflexology session that may be involved in providing possible benefits to patients and explore the reasons for their efficacy. Reflexology treatments will be given to six patients, with cancer of various types and degrees of severity, over a six-week period. I will track the progress of each patient over the six weeks, assessing whether there have been any noted benefits through a combination of information gained from conversations with patients and the use of thematic analysis. If the results are not conclusive, it is nevertheless possible to appreciate that this study has contributed to an area of research that is currently under-represented. ‘The urgent need for more research into complementary and alternative medicine has been highlighted by the House of Lords’ Select Committee on Science and Technology. There are thought to be up to 50,000 complementary practitioners in the UK, yet this is not reflected in the number of researchers, research projects undertaken or published reports’ (The Prince of Wales 2002). If the outcome of this study is positive, it has the potential of increasing awareness of the usefulness of reflexology in palliative care, contributing to its increased availability within NHS hospices, and ultimately ensuring that patients are given the option of utilising its benefits or not.

  • Psychic Phenomena: Meditation, Perception Actuality - an Australian Study
PSYCHIC PHENOMENA: MEDITATION, PERCEPTION ACTUALITY - AN AUSTRALIAN STUDY Emma Nattress Bachelor of Arts This thesis is presented for the degree of Master of Philosophy of Murdoch University 2007 1 I declare that this thesis is my own account of my research and contains as its main content work which has not previously been submitted for a degree at any tertiary education institution. …………………………… Emma Nattress 2 ABSTRACT This thesis presents the findings of an investigation into contemporary psychic phenomena as reported by Australian students. It asks the question: ‘do people experience psychic phenomena?’ The study is an empirical one of reported psychic phenomena. It uses a questionnaire which involves the matching of perceptions of specific psychic phenomena, rather than an examination of psychic phenomena as such. The questionnaire is based on a medical diagnostic model. Its findings are benchmarked against a previous study and compared with other empirical studies. A comparison of the study’s findings with those of more directly religious investigations undertaken overseas in countries with a longer monotheistic religious history than Australia: provides insight into the Australian attitude, generally recognised as being secular, towards psychic and or spiritual experiences; indicates that meditation is not necessarily a prerequisite for experience of psychic and or spiritual phenomena; and i argues that commonalities between specific experiences, reported not only within the Australian secular survey but also as reported in

Carefully and thoroughly read this manual before using the sauna. We recommend keeping this manual for regular review and future reference. 1 WHAT ARE INFRARED RAYS? Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. We cannot see this band of light with the naked eye, but we can feel this type of light in the form of heat. Our sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared segment of the spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air in-between. This process is called conversion. The infrared is divided into 3 segments by wavelengths measured in microns: near infrared: 0.76-1.5 microns; middle infrared: 1.5-5.6 microns; and far infrared: 5.6-1000 microns. Among these segments, only far infrared penetrates organic substances such as the human body two to three inches so that the warming effect is very uniform. ARE INFRARED RAYS SAFE? Because infrared rays are part of sunlight, they are not only safe but also highly beneficial to our bodies on a cellular level. Health professionals have used infrared heat lamps for decades to treat muscle and joint problems. In hospital baby care units, incubators are often equipped with infrared heating systems to keep newborn babies warm.
