GLEN ROCK, NJ -- Residents of Glen Rock, NJ, and the surrounding communities have an exciting new option for where to purchase fresh produce and groceries with the opening of a new location, here.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Aug. 12 at the store, featuring local municipal officials as well as executives from Key Food Stores Co-Operative Inc., a chain of primarily independently owned and corporate grocery stores, of which this store is a member.

At 26,000 square feet, the new SuperFresh store, which had previously operated as a Food Basics in the A&P family, has been completely remodeled to improve the customer experience. In addition to an expanded produce department that carries a wide variety of mainstream and tropical items, the store features a full-service deli department and meat department, as well as an extensive liquor department.

“Store owner Miguel Luna has worked so hard to completely remodel this store,” said John Durante, vice president of business development for Key Food Stores Co-operative. “He’s created a full- service grocery shopping destination for the people of both the Glen Rock and Hawthorne communities.”

“We’re so excited to open our doors to the Glen Rock and Hawthorne communities,” said Luna, who also operates two other in New York City under the Key Food and Fine Fare banners. “We’ve created a shopping experience that we’re proud of and want everyone to enjoy.”

Luna said the store took six months from concept to the grand opening, and he lauded Key Food for its help and support along the way. “They couldn’t have been more helpful and we are extremely grateful for their support,” he said. “We’ve been working with Key Food for five years now and we are very pleased with that relationship.”

Luna operates this store and his two other locations with the help of his three sons, Adrian, Brian and Marlon, who also were in attendance at the grand opening.

Asked about their philosophy on the importance of produce at the store, Adrian Luna said they focus on freshness and try to carry local produce in season. Additionally, he said they carry tropical items not seen at other supermarkets to appeal to a broader customer base.
