FILE NO. 180624 RESOLUTION NO. 1 [Street FILE NO. 180624 RESOLUTION NO. 225-18 1 [Street Name Change - Mission Bay - From South Street to Warriors Way] 2 3 Resolution changing the name of South Street between Third Street and Terry A. 4 Francois Boulevard in Mission Bay South to "Warriors Way," in recognition of the 5 Golden State Warriors basketball team's contribution to the San Francisco Bay Area 6 and the City and County of San Francisco. 7 8 WHEREAS, The owners of the Golden State Warriors National Basketball Association 9 ("NBA") team are building a privately-financed state-of-the-art multi-purpose event center on 1O Blocks 29-32 (Assessor's Parcel Block No. 8722, Lot Nos. 1 and 8) in the Mission Bay South 11 Redevelopment Area ("Chase Center"); and 12 WHEREAS, Chase Center is bounded on the north by South Street, the south by 16th 13 Street, the east by Terry A. Francois Boulevard, and the west by Third Street; and 14 WHEREAS, The Chase Center will create a vibrant and exciting new venue that will 15 house the NBA championship team, the Golden State Warriors, as well as year-round 16 sporting events, entertainment, and conventions; and 17 WHEREAS, The Golden State Warriors contribute to the civic pride of the City and 18 County of San Francisco and the entire San Francisco Bay Area; and 19 WHEREAS, The Golden State Warriors have demonstrated a commitment to off-court 20 philanthropic endeavors that contribute to the well-being of the greater San Francisco Bay 21 Area, the City in general, and the local community and serve to inspire young people to 22 pursue their dreams; and 23 WHEREAS, The district surrounding Chase Center will create a lively local and 24 regional visitor-serving entertainment destination in the Mission Bay neighborhood and 25 Mayor Breed; Supervisor Kim BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Page 1 1 provide significant economic and cultural benefits to the City and County of San Francisco; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, South Street was recently constructed, consists of a single block, and its 4 name bears no historic connection to the Mission Bay neighborhood or the City; and 5 WHEREAS, In recognition of the contributions Chase Center and the Golden State 6 Warriors, have had and will continue to have on the City and County of San Francisco, the 7 Board of Supervisors finds it appropriate to rename the street adjacent to the Center to 8 Warriors Way; and 9 WHEREAS, The Board of Supervisors recognizes that Public Works, on behalf of the 1O City, has taken all necessary actions to effecfthis name change, including fully complying with 11 regulations regarding street name changes under California Streets and Highway Code, 12 Section 970.5, which requires posted notice on the street for at least 10 days prior to the 13 Board of Supervisors hearing on this resolution, Streets and Highways Code, Section 5026, 14 and Government Code, Section 34091.1, and Public Works Code, Section 423; now, 15 therefore, be it 16 RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors hereby changes the name of South Street 17 between Third Street and Terry A. Francois Boulevard in Mission Bay South to "Warriors 18 Way," in recognition of the Golden State Warriors valued contributions to the City and County 19 of San Francisco and the entire Bay Area region; and, be it 20 FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors, in accordance with 21 Transportation Code, Section 2.2, directs the Municipal Transportation Agency to prepare · 22 street signs indicating both the new and the former names of the street, with the new name 23 "Warriors Way" in large letters, and the old name "South Street" in smaller letters above or 24 beneath the new name; and, be it 25 Mayor Breed; Supervisor Kim BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Page 2 1 FURTHER RESOLVED, That both of the street names shall remain posted on the 2 street signs for five years, and then the street signs shall be replaced with signs indicating 3 only the new street name, "Warriors Way;" and, be it 4 FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors directs the Clerk of the Board 5 to promptly forward a copy of this resolution to the County Surveyor in accordance with 6 California Streets and Highway Code, Section 5026 and that the County Surveyor include the 7 new street name on the Official Maps of the City. 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 1.5 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 Mayor Breed; Supervisor Kim BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Page 3 City and County of San Francisco City Hall 1 Dr. Carlton B. After Dover Air Force Base, the main port for returning remains, released hundreds of government photos of the ceremonies, the Defense Department ordered Thursday that no more photographs be released. In addition, two employees for defense contractor Maytag Aircraft were fi red after the Pentagon complained about a photo of fl ag-draped caskets taken by one of them appeared in the Seattle Times. In March 2003, on the eve of war in Iraq, the Pentagon ordered an end to all media coverage of ceremonies for the returning remains of soldiers killed overseas. Although Dover already had such a policy, the Pentagon action enforced a military-wide ban on images of fl ag-draped caskets that dated from late 2000 but had not been followed. With few exceptions, the ban had remained in force until recent days. But last week, about 350 photos from Dover were released under a Freedom of Information Act request by Russ Kick, a First Amendment advocate who runs a Web site called the Memory Hole (www.thememoryhole.org). Dover had recommended that Kick’s request be denied, but offi cials at Air Mobility Command headquarters at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois authorized the release on appeal.

Meeting Notes The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18th, 2014. Please note that there will not be a City Council meeting on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4th. 2. Rebuilding Parchester Park – “All in a Day’s Work” On Saturday, October 25th Livie & Luca (generous funders), The Trust for Public Land (funders), Boys and Girls Club of El Sobrante, Richmond Trees, the City of Richmond, the Parchester community and hundreds of volunteers came together to work toward a common goal: Building community with community through beatification of an open space. In one (1) day, these groups came together to build a brand new park in Parchester! The planning committee engaged Parchester residents and children in designing their open space at “Design Day” in July 2014. During Design Day, children and residents shared their dreams for their open space. The planning committee reviewed the wishes and placed the dreams into a reality on Build Day, Saturday October 25th. Preparation of the site was completed three days prior to Build Day and RichmondBUILD was diligent in prepping the site to ensure it was ready for volunteers. The beautification of the Parchester Park Project includes a new play structure, rehabilitated baseball diamond, landscaping that included the planting of 37 trees, children’s musical garden, picnic benches, a BBQ grill, and an arbor covering the picnic benches. This year “Make A Difference Day” was combined with Arbor Day which was hosted by Richmond Trees.

In all cases, credentials are non-transferable and any unauthorized use will subject the bearer to ejection from Sleep Train Arena and forfeiture of the credential. It is the home of the Golden State Warriors. It has a capacity of 19,596, making it the largest of the three NBA arenas in California by capacity, with the Staples Center in Los Angeles (the current home of both the Lakers and Clippers) second and the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento third. It is the oldest arena in the NBA.
