Corpus Christi (32-22) at Tulsa (25-28) Saturday, June 2, 2018 • ONEOK Field • Tulsa, OK • 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: 20-8 Home | 12-14 Road | 10-3-2 Series | 3-1 Sweeps | L 1 Streak | 4-1 Last 5 | 7-3 Last 10 DRILLERS BREAK THROUGH IN 7TH: The Drillers rallied for three runs in the seventh inning Friday night to upend Corpus Christi, 4-3, before 7,062 fans in the series opener at ONEOK Field. Corpus Christi jumped out to an early lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs against Parker Curry in the third. Hooks starter Framber Valdez worked well with the lead, scattering five singles over the first six innings. The lone Tulsa marker during this span scored on a 4-6-3 double play in the third. Alex De Goti opened the Corpus Chris- ti third with a double into the left-field corner, and later came home on a sac fly by Josh Rojas, making it 3-1 Hooks. Tulsa erased that edge in the seventh courtesy of four singles and a hit batsman. The Hooks mishandled a double-play opportunity as well. Yusniel Diaz accounted for the go-ahead hit, a two-run single through the left side. Valdez coaxed 10 groundouts and fanned four while throwing 95 pitches in 6 1/3 frames. Tulsa relievers Michael Boyle, Logan Ondrusek, and Ariel Hernandez com- bined to blank the Hooks over 5 2/3 innings. Trailing 4-3, Myles Straw was hit by a pitch to begin the ninth. Straw promptly stole sec- ond and then advanced to third on a grounder by Rojas. After Taylor Jones was hit by a pitch, Hernandez induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the game. Corpus Christi stranded 10 on the night.
