She was christened on 14th March 1869 at Weaverham Parish Church; listed on P.116 of the Church Register for Births. BGGBGGBBBGBB She was the fifth child of the twelve children of David and Beatrice Hindley. In the 1871 Census Lois Hindley was aged two years, born at Weaverham, and living with her parents at Beech Lane, Weaverham. The house was called “Keepers Cottage”. The 1881 Census told us that Lois was 12 years old, and she was living with her parents at Beech Lane, Weaverham. Her parents had moved to Clay Croft House, Anderton, by the time of the 1891 Census. Lois was 22, and had moved with them to Anderton, but no occupation was listed. LOIS HINDLEY (1869 –1921) 1869LOIS/2 In the 1901 Census Lois was 32 years old and single. She was living with her mother, four brothers and one sister at Clay Croft House, Anderton. Again, no occupation was listed. The 1911 Census told us that Lois was living at Comberbach, Northwich, with a brother and sister. No occupation was listed. (The house would be Keepers Cottage on Marbury Road).     LCT 5: UNDULATING ENCLOSED FARMLAND General Description This character type is defined by undulating topography and the associated small to medium scale enclosure into which it is divided. Key characteristics are the generally cohesive and un-fragmented historic landscape in the south of the borough, small woodlands, ponds and streams, nucleated rural villages and scattered farmsteads. Land use is mainly pasture. Away from main roads, railways and settlement the landscape is generally quiet and rural. Views within this type very much depend upon location and the nature of the immediate topography. There is a range of monuments from Bronze Age barrows to post medieval canal locks. The character type is found across a large part of the Cheshire West and Chester borough; to the east between Northwich and the Sandstone Ridge and in the south of the borough. Visual Character The location of this landscape type is reflected in the prevailing views which extend to adjacent character areas, either out over the low-lying plain or up towards the often dominant Sandstone Ridge. Roads typically follow the rolling topography, offering extensive views from high vantage points out over the immediate field pattern and extending to the high ground in the far distance such as the Pennines in the east. Long distance views are sometimes affected by large scale industrial works in adjacent areas. LCT 5: Undulating Enclosed Farmland 138 From low ground the landscape appears smaller in scale due to the increase in enclosure and the contained views where skylines are typically formed by hedgerow trees, woodland and farmsteads, with occasional electricity pylons and church spires.

  • 1934 Directory Antrobus
    Antrobus is a township, and with Seven Oaks is a parish, formed in 1848 from the civil parish of Great Budworth. The township of Antrobus is 5¼ miles north-west from Northwich station on the Cheshire Lines and London, Midland and Scottish railway, and 6 south-east from Warrington, in the Knutsford division of the county, hundred of Bucklow, Runcorn rural district, Northwich county court district, petty sessional division of Leftwich, rural deanery of Frodsham and archdeaconry and diocese of Chester. The church of St. Mark, erected in 1848, is a building of red sandstone, in the Early English style, consisting of chance, nave, south aisle, south porch, and a small central turret, with spire containing one bell: the chancel was beautifully decorated in 1863, and three stained windows added, at the sole expense of Samuel Higginbottom esq. of Glasgow, in memory of his wife: two other stained windows were erected in 1878, by the tenants and friends of the late Rev. George Eaton MA of The Pole: there are 220 sittings. The register dates from the year 1848. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £340, with residence, in the gift of the vicar of Great Budworth, and held since 1932 by the Rev. Oliver Mordaunt Tyndale BA of Worcester College, Oxford. There is a Methodist chapel. Selby’s charity of £2 10s 8d is for distribution. The Pole, occupied by Henry Steward Brown esq. is a fine mansion in extensive pleasure grounds. The Crown claims the manorial rights. The land is mainly owned by the farmers. The soil is clayey: subsoil, clay.
