The Kamloops Blazers have won the most Memorial Cups of any team in the WHL history (1992, 1994 and 1995). The Kamloops Blazers were also WHL champions in 1984, 1986 and 1990. The Memorial Cup trophy is a symbol of the championship of the (CHL). Dating back to 1919, the Memorial Cup was established by Captain James T. Sutherland to honour those who gave their lives during World War I. It was rededicated during the 2010 tournament to honour all soldiers who died fighting for Canada in any conflict. “The Memorial Cup Anniversary is a reminder of the heart within our organization, the community and those that helped to get us where we are today.”

Moved by Councillor Singh, seconded by Councillor O’Reilly, that Council direct administration to proceed with the closure of approximately 474 m2 (5,102 sq. ft) of road adjacent to 750 Mission Flats Road (0.6 acres) for the negotiated purchase price of $385,000 subject to the following: • consolidation with Lot A, Plan KAP90842 (660 Mission Flats Road) • registration of a statutory right-of-way in favor of the City for general utilities • installation of fencing on the west property boundary by the applicant • registration of an easement in favor of the City to protect that portion of the lands currently leased to OJ Ventures Ltd. • Councillor Walsh was opposed, and the rest of Council was in favour.

PURPOSE: To seek Council’s authorization to apply for grants under the Union of BC Municipalities’ (UBCM’s) Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) Program, and to seek Council’s continued support of ongoing preventative measures as identified in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). SUMMARY • In 2004, City developed the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for wildfire protection and updated it in 2016 • Staff would like to apply for funding through UBCM to treat significant areas to reduce the threat of interface fires using preventative measures identified in the CWPP • City has regularly enacted fuel management through prescribed burns and fuel reduction mediation • Increased focus on education and prevention initiatives City of Kamloops | Regular Council Meeting
