That is why you will see in this proposal that I have partnered with several community organizations to make sure that the Championships held in Asheville is the best event possible. I am proud to submit this proposal to host the 2012 National Collegiate Table Tennis Championships in Asheville on behalf of the Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission, the Asheville Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Asheville is a unique community that welcomes over two million visitors annually and is consistently listed as one of the country’s best places to live, work, and visit. As one of America’s most welcoming cities, Asheville is prepared to offer your student athletes a world class experience. It is our hope that every athlete and fan leaves Asheville knowing they had a remarkable weekend full of memories they will cherish for years to come. (April 2009) Kimmel Arena: The Perfect Venue Located in the heart of the University of North Carolina at Asheville’s campus, between the Justice Center and the Reuter Center is the 138,000 square foot North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness, which houses the brand new Kimmel Arena. The Kimmel Arena is located just 2.4 miles north west of the Downtown Asheville. This new, 3,200 seat venue on the campus of UNC-Asheville is the proposed venue. The new project is currently underway and is projected to open April 2011, which is one year before the tournament. Architects for the project are Bowers Ellis & Watson of Asheville, and HOK, an international firm that specializes in public assembly architecture.The Kimmel Arena is being constructed and operated in an environmentally sustainable manner and will feature the latest video production technology, health-conscious dining, strength training rooms, and ample meeting areas. 3 Kimmel Arena: The Perfect Venue Lights / Sounds Lighting in the facility is direct overhead with a system which allows these lights to be dimmed using shades. The arena lighting is designed to meet NCAA / ESPN standards. There are seven windows near arena floor that have little or no impact on the competition space. The arena features a brand new, state of the art, public address system capable of handling all your events needs. Ceiling Height The two catwalks above the floor are the lowest points on the ceiling. They are 51 feet, 6.5 inches above the floor. Restroom / Locker Room The arena is designed to host events with over 3,500 attendees, the six ADA accessible restrooms on the facility concourse will provide more than adequate facilities for the record breaking attendance. The arena features eight locker rooms for competitors with an additional two smaller locker rooms for VIPs, staff, or referees. Seating The Kimmel Arena has several seating configurations. To maximize competition space no floor seating will be utilized for most of the competition. This configuration provides 3,200 seats in the Arena, consisting of 2,400 fixed chair back seats, 440 bleacher seats, and the remainder are telescoping chair back seats. During competition matches additional floor seating can be added if preferred. Parking / Access The arena has an attached parking garage and several locations for coach bus parking. The parking garage can be used as a fee lot with parking policies negotiable. Kimmel Arena has a main entrance with six doors and a VIP entrance with four additional doors. Meeting Facilities There are seven large meeting rooms on the concourse level that can be utilized as hospitality rooms or lounges for the tournament. There is a large hospitality room with a deck that has a view of the Arena floor on the concourse. Copier, internet, and janitorial services are all available during the event. Concessions There are two large concession stands on the concourse, with the possibility of kiosks being added to increase concession capability. Downtown
