Garry E. Hall as commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 158 during a ceremony at Naval Support Activity Bahrain Sept. 27. Command of CTF 158 typically rotates among coalition partners Australia, United Kingdom and the United States. CTF 158 is comprised of coalition ships and its primary mission in the Persian Gulf is Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in and around both the Al Basrah and Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminals (ABOT and KAAOT, respectively), in support of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1723. This resolution charges the multinational force with the responsibility and authority to maintain security and stability in Iraqi territorial waters and also supports the Iraqi government's request for security support. Additionally, under the training and leadership of CTF 158, Iraqi marines aboard ABOT and KAAOT train with the coalition in order to eventually assume responsibility for security. “I am honored to have been in command of this task force,” said Hall. “The coalition forces have done an excellent job of providing security to the oil platforms and training the Iraqi forces.” “I am very proud of the coalition forces and my staff in supporting the CTF 158 mission,” said Capt.

    ROYAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF QUEENSLAND JOURNAL Volume XV, No.l February 1993 THE WORLD OF THE BAMA Aboriginal-European Relations in the Cairns Rainforest Region to 1876 by Timothy Bottoms (All Rights Reserved) Presented to the Society as an Audio-Visual Program 10th August 1991 The world of the Djabugay-Yidiny [Jabuguy-Yidin] speaking people occupied what is now called the Cairns rainforest region. Their term for themselves is BAMA [Bum-ah] — meaning 'people'. To the south are Dyirbal [Jirrbal] speaking tribes who are linguistically different from their northern Yidiny-speakers, as German is to French. There appears to have been quite a deal of animosity' between these linguistically different neighbours. To the north are the Kuku-Yalanji [Kookoo Ya-lan-ji] who seem to have a great deal more in common with their southern Djabugay- speaking neighbours. In the northern half of the Cairns rainforest region are the Djabugay-speaking tribal groupings; the Djabuganydji [Jabu-ganji], the Nyagali [Na-kali], the Guluy [Koo-lie], the Buluwanydji [Bull-a- wan-ji], and on the coastal strip, the Yirrganydji [Yirr-gan-ji].^ The clans within each tribal grouping spoke dialects of Djabugay — so that, although there were differences, they were mutually understandable.^ The southern half of the Cairns rainforest region is home to the linguistically related Yidiny-speaking people. Fifty- three percent of the Yidiny lexicon is derived from Djabugay." However in the same fashion as the Djabugay-speakers — each clan, and there are many in each tribe,^ considered itself an entity in its own right, despite the linguistic affinities. The tribes who spoke Yidiny-related dialects were the Gungganydji [Kung-gan-ji], the Yidinydji [Yidin-ji], the Madjanydji [Mad-jan-ji], and Wanjuru.

(1991): Moina weismanni Ishikawa, 1896, a rare East Palearctic faunistic element from S. W. Yugoslavia (Crustacea, Cladocera). — Spixiana 14/1: 1-7. Moina weismanni Ishikawa, 1896, tili recently was known as a rare Far-Eastern faunistic element. Some time ago this species was introduced in Europe and to date evidenced in some ricefields of North Italy and in several inondation pools of the Pa- nonian lowland. Our discovery of the species in S. W. Yugoslavia shows that it suc- ceded to inhabit the Balkan Peninsula, too. Based on specimens of both sexes collected from Macedonia a short description is given. In addition, some important features are emphasized. These include the form of the ephippium in dorsal aspect and the presence of rows of setae at the dorsal mar- gin of the postabdomen in the female. In the male, the armature of the ventral shell rim and the first pair of legs, which are mutually asymmetrical, are also significant diagno- stic characters. Swetozar T. India MS received 13 July 1988; revised 10 March 1989 Abstract. Population density, composition, age structure and fecundity of Moina micrura have been studied in a eutrophic pond. The average clutch size of this species ranged from 1-4-4 eggs. The relationship between mean brood size and body length has been established. The volume of parthenogenetic eggs of this cladoceran ranges between 0·2 and 0·9 millions JL J and the adaptive significance of this has been discussed. The mean instantaneous birth rate which preceded maximum density of population resulted in a value of more than one. Keywords. Introduction Moina micrura, a member of the family Moinidae primarily inhabits astatic ponds and pools in tropical and subtropical regions. This species is highly adapted to survive frequent dry periods and propagate rapidly in newly formed ponds. The review of literature on zooplankton species of Moina shows that the information about the population dynamics of M. micrura from tropical Indian waters is far from complete. Hence, an attempt has been made to investigate its population density and composition, fecundity and age structure in natural habitats. 2. Study area The present study was carried out in a seasonal shallow pond (figure 1) located in the Madura College campus at Madurai (Long: 78'8' E; Lat: 9'56' N), south India.
