We publish the most beloved contemporary songs for worship by today’s most popular composers. But we are called to serve the Universal Church, and that requires a broad and diverse repertoire. We strive to meet the needs of every Catholic community in the US, including those preferring traditional hymnody and chant. Some may be surprised to learn that Breaking Bread and Journeysongs both contain over 90% of the hymns on the Archdiocese of Omaha’s Core Repertoire Hymn List, more than any other Catholic missal or hymnal. We also publish a number of outstanding chant resources, from Mass settings to music for chanting the entrance and Communion antiphons. In serving the Universal Church, OCP is proud to be one of four Padrino sponsors for the V Encuentro process, which culminated in the national gathering last September in Grapevine, Texas. I had the great honor of attending the event and witnessing the energy and passion firsthand. The leading publisher of liturgical music in Spanish, OCP is more committed than ever to serving the growing Latino Catholic community in the US. All of this is right in line with our mission: to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all. Whether your community needs Spanish, bilingual or Vietnamese resources, online liturgy tools, traditional hymns, chant, contemporary songs or choral music, OCP is your trusted source. Contemporary Music Jon Carlo Tú Eres Más Fuerte Through powerful lyrics, Jon Carlo shares his story of courage and strength, and opens his heart to tell how he managed to overcome difficulties through faith. These modern arrangements will inspire listeners of all ages. In the opening track, “La Respuesta,” Jon Carlo describes feelings of doubt toward God’s presence, when encountering suffering in the world. He further expresses that the solution is within us, as we work to be God’s instruments, sharing his love and word with actions. Contrastingly, “Ella” is a Marian tune with playful language that invites teenagers and adults to follow the Virgin Mary in her footsteps. Softer songs include “Quiero Volver,” inspired by the parable of the Prodigal Son and the desire to return home, and “Envíame a Mí,” a discipleship song about going forth that captures the desire of spreading God’s word to places without love or peace. While developing this collection, Jon Carlo worked with musicians, singers and composers from North and South America, com- bining versatile styles and influences — as is the case with “Confianza,” a song about trust, “No Te Vayas,” featuring Argentinian singer, Athenas, and “Yo Te Adoro,” a song about complete surrender and devotion to God. Tú Eres Más Fuerte is a reminder that no matter what we’re going through, God is with us through it all. With faith, there is no fear. In this traditional music, guitars, trumpets and violins, among others, meet the swelling and belting voice of a singer. This collection beautifully captures the essence of Mariachi and enables Azeneth’s diverse vocal ability to stand out. With four original songs written by Azeneth herself, this collection includes “Va Más Allá,” whose lyrics evoke the peace and strength that we find under God’s love, as well as “Uno en Dios,” a duet about the blessing of marriage with God as witness. “Tu Voluntad” is a melodic Mariachi song with inspiring lyrics about repentance and a prayer for strength, while “Viva Cristo Rey” celebrates the resurrection of Christ that brings us, as Catholics, to life. The other six familiar tunes have become iconic, Spanish-language Catholic songs such as, “Que Detalle Señor,” a joyful piece — one of Pope Francis’ favorites — about devotion and answering Jesus’ call to walk with him. “Cien Ovejas” is one of the most sung pieces among Hispanic Catholics, referencing the Parable of the Lost Sheep. “Pescador de Hombres” doesn’t need an introduction, for it has crossed borders and generations. But in this collection, it is now offered in a Mariachi arrangement. Through Cristo Rey, Azeneth González returns to her roots using Mariachi styles that are popular within the Hispanic community. She shares a love that is bigger than our hearts through a voice that can’t be held inside our bodies. Music Collections Dan Schutte Love and Grace These Alone Are Enough With a musical legacy of 50 years, Dan Schutte has played an integral role in shaping the liturgical life of the English-speaking Church. His songs have lifted the hearts of generations of faithful into deeper prayer and worship of God. His new collection, Love and Grace, featuring beautiful melodies and compelling lyrics, continues that legacy. The collection draws its name from Dan’s cherished song, “These Alone Are Enough.” Containing a variety of musical styles and topics, Love and Grace not only provides a treasury of music for the celebration of the Eucharist, but it also offers a perfect resource for retreats, workshops and personal prayer. Dan employs the richness of guitar, piano and organ, along with string, wind and brass instruments, to create music that is welcoming and accessible. Each song is intertwined with the next as the collection moves from themes of praise and worship to prayer and quiet reflection. With Dan’s signature melodies and supporting instrumentation, beginning musicians will love the accessibility of this collection, while the more experienced will appreciate its liturgical versatility. Explore the music in this collection in the individual octavos for piano, guitar and solo instrument, or in the songbook containing the entire collection of music.
