State)- Northern Sun (NCAA Coaches Connection); Erin Brown (Great Lake Valley Conference) Additional non-members on call Chelsea Crawford (NCAA- Academic & Membership Affairs) Not present: Gretta Melsted (Augustana)- Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference; Patrick Peasant (Miles College)- Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coaches Connection not present: Kathy Laoutaris (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference); Brooke LeSage (Conference Carolinas) 1) Roll taken 2) Announcement- Brian Stanley a) Division II has two 2017 Hall of Fame inductees- Sheilah Gulas & Vickie Kazee Hollifield- congratulated Sheliah b) Last Day to sign up for mentoring program; contact Joanna Lane if interested c) In 2017, all score reporting and Player/Pitcher of the Week must be entered using member coach’s username and password (SIDs will no long have a login) 3) Mel Cope relayed to the group that all 18 Division II legislative proposals passed a) Suggested coaches reach out to their respective Athletics Directors, SWAs and compliance offices to get the highlights. b) Explained the softball related proposals (see attached document for specifics) i) Props 7, 8, 11, 12 (Aug. 1, 2018), 13 (Aug. 1, 2018), 14 (Aug. 1, 2018), 15 & 16 ii) Discussed Prop 14- increase aid at any time for any reason (1) Susan Cassidy-Lyke- Could be a problem if it becomes incentive based iii) Discussed Prop 15- Two days off during non-championship segment (1) Chelsea- more days, less hours (20 to 15) (2) 15 hours does count games (max four hours per day) over a 45-consecutive calendar day period (3) eliminate the 24 days (4) Chelsea Crawford will provide the Q&A document regarding prop 15 (attached with minutes) 4) Mairin Dudek- How will Prop 12 (only institution aid count toward scholarship numbers) affect our scholarship increase proposal a) Make sure you still have conferences to sponsor it b) Needs to be well written and include rational on why it still needs to be increased 5) Erin Kinberger- Inquired about Fastpitch News Preseason All-Americans and felt it might create some confusion amongst coaches especially when NFCA POTY lists come out a) Brian – It is their first go at it and has no connecting with the NFCA i) Please tell your coaches the NFCA has no input with Fastpitch news on their selection process 6) Gary Bryce – Creation of subcommittees a) Wants HCC to create four subcommittees. Please contact Gary if interested i) Scholarship increase ii) Permanent Site for championships iii) Getting week back during festival years iv) Bat Testing for NCAA Division II B) Mel Cope- reminded HCC group the importance of getting this committee together quickly, as the NCAA Softball Sports Committee will be making recommendations on this topic in March. 7) Brittany Bennett asked about NCAAs future stance with the HB2 law in North Carolina 8) Brian- Need to start thinking about dates, incentive for 2019 Leadoff Classic to increase participation a) Erin Kinberger- Alerted Brian of administration change within City of Clearwater 9) Dan Gierlak – mentioned the experimental rules (speed up the game) that will go in effect for 2017 a) Membership has since received memos from the NCAA regarding the three new experimental rules for regular season conference games only 10) Next call will be Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. ET 11) Meeting adjourned at 1:51 p.m. .
