(PTI) The Labour and Employment ministry at the Centre is marching ahead with the principle of providing employment security, social and wage security to working people, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said today. Abolition of child labour, launching of Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana, raising of maternity leave to 26 weeks for women working in the organised sector are some of the major achievements of the government, the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment told reporters here. Dattatreya, who had participated in the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ meet held on May 18-19 at Bad Neuenahr, Germany said the meet had lauded the policies of Narendra Modi government’s Labour and Employment ministry. “Several programmes initiated by the Labour ministry are providing guidance to the G20 member states”, he said adding he had bilateral talks with UK, Argentina, Russia, Saudi Arabia labour ministers regarding the unorganised sector workers and their security related issues. The government is considering to expand digitisation in a big way in Telangana, especially in Warangal, Zaheerabad, Ramagundam and in the surrounding areas of Hyderabad,” he said. 6/1/2016 N Bhaskara Rao: Modi scores higher than NDA Published on mydigitalfc.com (http://www.mydigitalfc.com) N Bhaskara Rao: Modi scores higher than NDA By :N Bhaskara Rao, chairman, Centre for Media Studies May 27 2016 Prime minister Nare n dra Modi continues to hold his sway across demographics, political divides and the states. While the NDA government’s initiatives are generally appreciated, concern for increasing prices and unemployment at the grassroots continues. A special assessment st udy conducted by the Centre for Media Studies (CMS) on the occasion, finds that a significant per cent of respondents do not find much difference in the performa nce of NDA administration compared with the previous regime. This is specific to mi n istries that are critical for the common man. But, as Modi empathises with psyche of masses, he is seen in a beyondfive year mould. As the leader of the country, Modi scores higher than the NDA government and its cabinet. Ours is not an impact study. Two years is also too short a period to come up with a “report card” given the kind of complexities the country is confronted with. Since only a sample survey based review cannot bring out credible feedback, this CMS assessment is based on a specially devised composite methodology involving an analysis of initiatives taken, the extent of citizen interface and involvement and public record and perceptions on ground realities and implementation. This assessment was co n d ucted during March, and included fieldwork at 70 urban and rural clusters across the country, in the specific context of the Modi government completing two years.

• Death of an 'Untouchable'
Death of an ‘untouchable’ - Matteo Miavaldi, NEW DELHI, India. The suicide of a young doctoral student has become a national rallying cry against discrimination toward dalits and other minorities in India, which seems to have sharpened in the two years of Narendra Modi’s government. In September, Rohith Vemula, 26, a second year science doctoral student at Hyderabad Central University, wrote a satirical letter of protest to the vice chancellor of the Indian academic system. “I ask Your Highness to act without delay in the establishment of an appropriate facility for euthanasia, dedicated to students like me,” he mused. “And I wish you and the entire campus to rest in peace forever.” In India, you might call that the ordinary, scornful dialectic of a young dalit “left-winger.” But that would diminish the political activism of a generation of so-called “untouchables” against the secular and systemic harassment perpetrated by high castes against the poorest of the poor — a diverse group that in modern India includes dalits, adivasis (tribals), Muslims, shudra (the “servants,” according to the Hindu caste system), Indians of the Northeast, women and homosexuals. They all struggle for social justice in the hierarchy of ultra-Hinduism. A few months after writing that letter, Vemula killed himself. The letter and the rope On Sunday, Jan. 17, Vemula’s lifeless body was found on the HCU campus, hanged, along with a letter that spread across the internet. He explained his dream of someday writing about science, “like Carl Sagan,” but instead took his life because he was crushed by the weight of a world where “the value of a man was reduced to his immediate identity and nearest possibility.
