September 2, 2014, Issue 412 CMA Remakes Remotes Calling something “unprecedented” is, in rare instances, actually not hyperbole. And so it is with the new, all-inclusive model being adopted for the annual CMA Radio Remotes, long part of an exclusive audio rights deal held by Clear Channel-owned Premiere Radio Networks and now being brought in-house by CMA. The upshot? “It’s going to create probably the biggest coalition of companies, stations and reach ever assembled – all focused on driving tune-in to a live event on network television,” says Cumulus Co-COO/EVP John Dickey, a member of CMA’s Radio Committee. “It’s going to be huge.” Guardians Of The Galaxy: Reinventing the remotes started roughly a year ago. “We wanted to try to get greater representation from all the radio groups involved,” says Entercom Bryan’s Den: Industry folks gather in Chicago Sunday (8/31) VP/Country Mike Moore, who chairs the committee. “Premiere for Luke Bryan’s That’s My Kind Of Night Tour stop. June 1, 2015, Issue 450 Addressing SaladGate Six pages of in-depth reporting on Women In Country and a post-CRS panel write-up in which Keith Hill urged slashing female- voiced songs made nary a ripple outside the business a few months back. But the consultant’s lettuce-and-tomatoes analogy last week in this space touched off a social and, eventually, major media tidal wave. Go figure. We’ll get to Hill in the next story (right), after female PDs and MDs weigh in with their thoughts on a well-known though still confounding reality. In full disclosure, some of the women we contacted declined to contribute for lack of time or lack of what they felt would be helpful feedback. • CHRIS KNIGHT Almost Daylight
CHRIS KNIGHT Almost Daylight “It’s hard to know how people are gonna react,” Chris Knight says of Almost Daylight, his ninth album and first new recording in over seven years. “I’ve written songs about a lot of different things going all the way back to my first record, and some folks still think ‘somebody kills somebody’ is all I write about. Maybe that’s why I was bound and determined to get these particular songs on this album. If people like them, then we’ll be fine. But I wasn’t gonna do it any other way.” For the past 20 years, Chris Knight has only made music his own way. He’s released eight acclaimed albums, played thousands of electrifying live shows and built generations of fervent fans from Texas honky-tonks to Manhattan rock clubs. He’s been hailed as “the last of a dying breed…a taciturn loner with an acoustic guitar and a college degree” (The New York Times) and “a storyteller in the best traditions of Mellencamp and Springsteen” (USA Today). Bottom line, he’s hard-earned his reputation as one of America’s most uncompromising and respected singer/songwriters. And now with Almost Daylight, Knight delivers the most powerful – and unexpected – music of his career. Almost Daylight is very much a Chris Knight album, familiarly featuring vivid pictures of rural characters, desperate men and hardscrabble survivors. At the same time it’s unlike anything Knight has done before, with formidable testaments to compassion, redemption and even straight-up love. It’s an album both tough and tender, as bare-knuckled as it is open-hearted.

  • Bobby Bones: the Cover Story
(5.11.20) - https://www.soundslikenashville.com/featured/bobby-bones-cover-story/ Bobby Bones: The Cover Story WRITTEN BY CHRIS PARTON MAY 11, 2020 For funnyman media personality Bobby Bones – arguably the most popular host in country radio and the reigning ACM and CMA On-Air Personality of the Year – the COVID-19 pandemic has been anything but normal. Like many others, he and the cast of The Bobby Bones Show have been locked out of their workplace for over a month as they deal with a complete upheaval of their lives … but unlike the rest of us, he’s in a position to help brighten these dark times. “I’m lucky I get to work,” Bones tells Sounds Like Nashville, chatting by phone the morning after still more disorder – an overnight storm which downed power lines in his yard, killing power and forcing him back to the office for the first time since stay-at-home orders were given. “I’m trying to maintain a sense of normalcy so if people want to check in, even though it’s not normal, you can listen to the radio show and still feel normal. … I think my job is to be consistent in an inconsistent time.” But for a guy who’s also a rising TV star, a best-selling author, a successful touring musician and a dedicated philanthropist, consistency means trying new things. With that in mind, Bones has somehow found a way to launch yet another project – an internet-based gameshow fittingly titled Super Easy Trivia. Simultaneously one of the lowest low-budget gameshows in recent memory, and one of the most engaging, accessible and entertaining, it finds Bones doing his best makeshift-Bob Barker, taking over a Zoom chat with his shaky home-Internet connection and a handful of contestants to do just what its title suggests – answer super easy trivia questions.
