Rev. Veronica Mina Darko (FWACN, FGCNM) Chairperson, 14th Governing Board, N&MC

Rev Veronica Mina Darko is the current Chairperson of the 14th Governing Board of the Nursing & Midwifery Council.

Rev Darko doubles up as the Ghana Chapter Chairperson of the West African College of Nursing. She is the immediate past Registrar of the Council.

She holds a Diploma in Nursing Services Administration, certificate in Training of Trainers from the University of Manchester, Institute of Development, Planning & Management, Post- graduate certificate in Gerontology and second degrees in Educational Administration and Public Administration.

Under her leadership as the Registrar, the following were developed; Scheme of Service for Staff, 5 years Strategic Plan, website, Part III (Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act) and Rules & Regulations Guiding the Licensing Examination.

Felix Nyante (FWACN, FGCNM) Registrar, N&MC

Mr. Felix Nyante is a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing and a Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives. He is a State Registered Nurse, holds Second Degrees in Public Administration and Educational Administration. He is currently the Registrar of the N&MC. Felix has over thirty (30) years of continuous dedicated and productive service to the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service and the N&MC.

He has been actively involved in the training of Professional Nurses and Midwives and has keen interest in support supervision of Nurse/Midwife Practitioners. He is a Regional Council Member for Health Professionals Education in the ECOWAS Region.

In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, Felix championed the development and implementation of online licensing examinations for nurses and midwives in Ghana. This happens to be the first of its kind in Africa.

Professor Lydia Aziato (FWACN, FGCNM) Dean, School of Nursing & Midwifery, University of Ghana, Legon

Prof. Lydia Aziato is an Associate Professor and Dean of School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Ghana. She holds a degree in Nursing and Psychology, MPhil in Nursing and PhD in Nursing. She has also had a specialty training in Oncology Nursing from the cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Canada.

She holds both local and international positions in nursing organizations such as Sigma Theta Tau International and she is the President of the Chi-Omicron at Large Chapter. She also serves on a number of boards and committees and she is an external examiner for a number of Universities.

She is a fellow of the Africa Science Leadership Programme, West African College of Nursing, foundation fellow of the Ghana College of Nursing and Midwives and a member of the Ghana Young Academy.

Dr. Abigail Kyei (FWACN, FGCNM) President, Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives

Dr. Mrs. Abigail Agartha Kyei is the President of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health (Maternal & Child Health Concentration) from the San Diego State University, California, in the USA and a doctoral degree from the University of Phoenix, in Arizona, USA.

In 2000, she set up the country office for Jhpiego in Ghana and became Jhpiego’s first Country Director in Ghana.

She later became the Jhpiego/Malawi Country Director and doubled up as Chief of Party in the same organization. She joined the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) in 2008, as the International Midwife Advisor on a joint UNFPA/ICM programme.

Dr. Kyei is a Senior Lecturer and is currently the Head of Department for Nursing and Midwifery at Pentecost University College, Ghana.

Hannah Operabea Acquah (FWACN, FGCNM) Rector, Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives

Hannah Akua Oparebea Acquah (Ms) is the Rector of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives and Project Director on the Ghana-SickKids Paediatric Nursing Education Partnership (PNEP). She is a PhD Candidate in Health Policy and Management at the University of Ghana Business School.

She studied MPhil Nursing at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon; Leadership at the Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI) at Geneva, Switzerland.

She is a Fellow of West African College of Nursing, Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives and a Member of Sigma Theta Thau International, Lambda Chapter.

She is an ICN abstract reviewer and a Secretary to the Governing Council and Academic Board of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

Eva Mensah (FWACN, FGCNM) Director, Nursing and Midwifery Services, Ghana Health Service

Mrs Eva Mensah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Nursing with Psychology, an Mphil in Nursing and a certificate in Health Administration and Management. She is a fellow of the Ghana College for Nurses and Midwives and the West African College of Nursing.

She worked at the Korle Bu and is currently the Director for Nursing and Midwifery at the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health.

She is a board member of the 37 Military Hospital NMTC and the National Programme Coordinator for the USAID/GHS GOG Implementation of Supportive Supervision and other quality innovations in the Health Service. A CoPI (Ghana Team), on the implementation of the Ghana Nurse Leadership Programme.

Philomina Woolley (FWACN, FGCNM) Deputy Registrar (Operations) N&MC

Mrs. Philomina A.N Woolley graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing with Psychology and holds MPhil from the University of Ghana. She also holds a diploma in education at the University of Cape-Coast and a Post graduate certificate in Public Administration.

She is a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing and the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International.

She taught at the Midwifery Training School, Atibie in the Eastern Region.

She is currently the Deputy Registrar in charge of Operations at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Until her appointment, Mrs. Philomina Woolley was the Head of the Examination Unit of the Council, a position she held from 2009 to 2016.

Victoria Lamina (FWACN, FGCNM) Head, Policy Standards and Guidelines, N&MC

Mrs. Victoria Lamina is currently the Head of Policy, Standards and Guidelines at the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

She holds a masters degree in Education Administration, BSc. Nursing and a Post Graduate Diploma Certificate in Peadiatric Nursing from PXL University, Hasselt, Belgium. She has certificates in Midwifery, State Registered Nursing and Public Administration.

She worked at Korle-bu Teaching Hospital and the Korle-bu Polyclinic for 12 years. She played a key role in the structure and development of Paediatric Nursing Licensure Examinatins for the Council.

She is a member of the West Africa College of Nursing; with Maternal and Child Health Faculty and also a Foundation Fellow of Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

Gloria Esenam Simpong (FGCNM) Head, Monitoring & Evaluation, N&MC Mrs. Gloria Esenam Simpong is currently with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as the Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, after being the Head of Indexing, Registration and Licensing Department for three (3) years.

She holds Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology and Master of Business Administration (Health Services Management) and Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation (GIMPA).

Gloria started her nursing as a State Registered Nurse (SRN). She became a Critical Care Nurse in 1999, and worked in various hospitals.

She was the first Critical Care Nurse to be posted to the Obstetric recovery ward of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where she made great contributions to the development of Nursing and Midwifery protocols for the unit.

Osei Agyei Duodo Head, MIS, N&MC

Mr. Osei Duodu Agyei (MBA, BSc) is a Senior IT Officer at the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. Prior to Joining the Council, he was the Head of Department in an Engineering company in Accra.

Osei had his Secondary Education at Pope John Senior High and Minor Seminary. He currently Holds an MBA degree from University of Nicosia, Cyprus.

He has previously acquired an Advanced Information Technology Management certificate from Galilee International Management Institute, Israel where he was exposed to some of the world’s most sophisticated IT infrastructure and how to manage them.

As the Senior IT Officer of the Council, his roles include providing inputs into the training needs of staff and where practical, run the training.

Nana Boateng Agyeman Head, Public Affairs, N&MC

Nana Boateng Agyeman is the Head of Public Affairs at the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

He holds a Diploma in Communications Studies with a specialization in Population Communication, BA in Communication Studies (Broadcast Journalism) and MA in Adult Education (Community Development).

He was awarded the best student in Population Communication (GIJ, 2004), Best Student in Marketing (GIJ, 2004), Best Communication Studies Student (CSUC, 2011) and Best Graduating student (Wisconsin International University College, 2019)

He is a member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, Fellow of the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship and Editorial Board Member of the Numid Horizon: International Journal of Nursing and Midwifery

Benjamin Osei Assistant Head, Monitoring & Evaluation, N&MC

Benjamin Osei is the Assistant Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He is also a member of the National Health Quality Strategy Technical Committee of the Ministry of Health.

He holds a Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation from the GIMPA and a Post Graduate Certificate in Result-Based Project Management: Monitoring and Evaluation from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa.

Benjamin completed an MSc in Urban Management and Development from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2015 and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon (2006).

Judith Asiamah (FGCNM) Director, Nursing & Midwifery Services, University of Ghana Medical Centre

Mrs. Judith Asiamah is the Director of Nursing Services at the University of Ghana Medical Centre and a Committee Member of Florence Nightingale Challenge & Workshop of the Nursing & Midwifery Council.

She is the immediate past Deputy Director of Nursing Services for the Maternity Theatre of 37 Military Hospital.

She is a General Nurse, Midwife and a Peri-operative Nurse. She is currently the Regional Facilitator in Infection Prevention and Control.

She holds Executive Masters in Business Administration, a member of IHRMP and a Fellow of GCNM.

Georgina Afua Sam (FWACN, FGCNM) Director, Nursing & Midwifery Services, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi

Ms. Georgina Afua Sam is the Director of Nursing Services of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

She holds Masters in Public Health, Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Nursing with Psychology. She is a Nurse-Midwife and has a rich experience in Public Health, Nursing administration and leadership.

She is a member of the West African College of Nursing and a Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

Until her current appointment, she was the Regional Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the Brong Ahafo Region, a position she held since May, 2012.

Agnes Delali Agudu Deputy Director of Nursing, Accra Psychiatric Hospital

Agnes Delali Agudu is the Deputy Director of Nursing at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

She completed Nursing Training College, Pantang in 1998 and obtained a certificate in Mental Health Nursing.

She also holds Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Philosophy in Nursing and a certificate in Health Administration and Management.

She has worked as a nursing practitioner at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital since 1998 till date.

Evelyn-Eda Dangnikuu Director, Nursing Services, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale

Ms. Evelyn-Eda Dangnikuu is the Director of Nursing at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

She became a State Registered Nursing in 1986. Ms. Evelyn- Eda Dangnikuu is also a Registered Midwife and Peri-Operative Nurse.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2009 she was appointed as a Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) at the Tamale Regional Hospital to help establish the Neurosurgical Ward and Theatre and subsequently the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in-charge of Nursing Administration in the Northern Region.

In December 2019, She was appointed as the Director of Nursing Services at Tamele Teaching Hospital.

Colonel Josephine Osei-Vowotor Matron, 37 Military Hospital, Accra

Colonel Josephine Osei-Vowotor is the Matron at the 37 Military Hospital.

She is a nurse-midwife and a public health nurse. She holds BSC in Nursing at Central University. She also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Service Administration and Management from GIMPA.

She was enlisted into Ghana Military Army in 1990 and rose through to the ranks to become a Colonel and Matron of 37 Military Hospital.

Col. Osei-Vowotor has worked at various Garrisons in Sunyani, Tamale, Takoradi. She was First Aid Instructor at Ghana Military Academy from 1996-1999. She Participated in Peace-Keeping Operations in DR Congo in 2004 and in Cote Divoire in 2006.

Chief Supt. Juliana Dartey (FWACN, FGCNM) Director, Nursing & Midwifery Services, Police Hospital

Chief Supt. Juliana Dartey is the Director of Nursing Services at the Police Hospital. She became a State Registered Nurse in 1984, Midwife in 1986 and Pediatric Nurse in 1996. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Chief Supt. Dartey is a fellow of the West African College of Nursing and also a fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

She was enlisted into the Ghana Police Hospital as the first Pediatric Nurse in the Police Hospital in 1998 on the rank of Inspector.

She has served on several committees, both in and outside the Police Hospital. These include Ministry of Health Technical Committee, Ghana Association of Quasi Government Health Institution (GAQHI), Ghana Police Hospital Infection Prevention Committee, Chairperson Ghana Police Hospital Purchasing Committee.

Linda Naa Okailey Mettle Deputy Director, Nursing Services, Upper West Regional Hospital, Wa

Miss Linda Naa Okailey Mettle is the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Regional Hospital, Upper West. She is a State- Registered Nurse and a Registered Midwife with 27 years work experience in health service delivery.

She holds a degree in Psychology and Sociology, certificates in Family Planning and Health Administration and Management.

She worked at the National Blood Transfusion Service, Korle Bu, Ussher Clinic and James Town Maternity Home, Mamprobi Polyclinic and Sissala East Municipal Hospital, Tumu.

Ms. Martha Oppong-Gyargye is the Head of Nursing Administration at the Regional Hospital, Bono.

She is a State Registered Nurse/Midwife and also ENT specialist. She holds B.Sc. in Public Health and a certificate in Health Administration and Management.

She has thirty-five years of continuous dedicated and productive service to Christian Health Services, MOH and GHS

Ms. Martha Oppong-Gyargye is a preceptor, clinician and manager.

Mary A. Kalim Deputy Director, Nursing Services, Upper East Regional Hospital, Bolgatanga

Ms. Mary A. Kalim is the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Regional Hospital, Upper East. She is State-Registered Nurse and Registered Ophthalmic Nurse.

She holds a certificate in Health Administration and Management.

Ms. Mary A. Kalim has over 30 years of experience in nursing and has risen through the ranks to become the Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS).

She holds BA (Hon) Psychology with Sociology and a certificate in Administration. She is a Fellow of Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

She has been a trainer, preceptor, clinical instructor and a Reviewer of Pre-service learning guides for several years.

Sophia Blankson (FGCNM) Director, Nursing & Midwifery Services, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast

Mrs. Sophia Blankson is the Director of Nursing Services at the Cape-Coast Teaching Hospital, Cape-Coast.

Justina Amo -Yartey is the Nurse Manager at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Western Region. She is a Nurse-Midwife. She holds a Post Basic certificate in Ear, Nose & Throat and a certificate in Health Administration and Management.

With over 31 years of nursing and midwifery experience, Mrs. Amo–Yartey has worked at Axim Government Hospital, Bamianko Community Clinic, Kutukrom Community, Sefwi Wiawso and Essiama Government Hospital.

Mrs. Amo –Yartey is a Patron of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, preceptor and HIV/AIDS Counselor.

Innocentia Ruby Gborgblorvor Ag. Director, Nursing Services, Ho Teaching Hospital, Ho

Mrs. Innocentia Ruby Gborgblorvor is the Ag. Director of Nursing Services at Ho Teaching Hospital. She is a Nurse-Midwife. She worked in the then Volta Regional Hospital (now Ho Teaching Hospital) since 1999.

She holds a degree in Nursing and second degree in Nursing Education from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.

With several years of experience, Mrs. Gborgblorvor worked at Worawora Government Hospital, Ho Municipal Hospital and Peki Government Hospital.

She has also worked on secondment for four years as a clinical tutor and currently as part-time lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

Mrs. Rita Esi Aryee was appointed as the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services in January, 2018.

She has over three decades experience in nursing and midwifery, having been offered appointed to Korle Bu as a Staff Nurse attached to the Central OPD in 1988. She has worked in various departments such as the Polyclinic, Accidents Centre, Maternity and has risen to her current grade.

In 2012, she was appointed to the Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) position in charge of the Training and Research Unit, formally In-Service Training Unit. In 2016, she was appointed as the Chief Nursing Officer of the Unit.

She holds B.Sc. Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling from University of Ghana and University of Cape Coast respectively.

Professor Aaron Lawson Director, Medical Training & Simulation Centre, UGMC, Legon

Professor Aaron Lawson is a Professor of Anatomy and the Director of the Medical Training & Simulation Centre, UGMC, Legon. He holds an MB ChB degree from the University of Ghana and a PhD in Anatomy from the University of Leicester, England.

He commenced his academic career as Lecturer in Anatomy in 1985 and became a Senior Lecturer in 1993, Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor of Anatomy in 2000. He also served as Visiting Professor at Tulane Medical School and the University of Utah, both in the US.

He has held various administrative positions at the University, including Head of Department, Dean of the Medical School and Provost of the College of Health Sciences.

Following his retirement, he was appointed Coordinator of the University of Ghana Medical Centre Project and between 2016 and 2018 he served as the Centre’s first Interim CEO.

He is also the current Chairman of the Board of Governors of All Nations University College in Koforidua

Aisha Muniru Asante Simulation Manager, Medical Training & Simulation Centre, UGMC, Legon

Mrs. Aisha Muniru Asante (MPhil, BSc) is self-motivated and versatile young woman with enviable knowledge and experience in the management of a Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (CSSC).

She has an excellent attitude to work and highly adaptable to changes. With demonstrated dynamism and flexibility, she is able to coordinate and consolidate efforts internally and externally to drive results in meeting institutional targets.

Aisha is also an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor with eight years’ experience.

Dr. Gladys Buruwaa Nuamah Deputy Director, Medical Training & Simulation Centre, UGMC, Legon

Dr. Nuamah is the Deputy Director of Medical Training Research and Simulation Centre, UGMC. She has 25 years experience in teaching, research, clinical and preventive practice. She holds a PhD in Public Health, Masters Degree in Public Health (Population and Reproductive Health), Bachelor of Arts in Nursing with Psychology, Midwifery and State Registered Nursing Certificate.

She has worked in the area of community health, palliative care, e-health and health systems strengthening and also worked as a programme head for management of HIV/AIDS programmes at Korle - Bu Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Nuamah serves as a senior research fellow at the International Earth Conservation (IEC) and a member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Ghana Chapters. She has eight (8) publications to her credit.

Isaac Asiamah Yeboah Medical Training & Simulation Centre, UGMC, legon

Mr. Isaac Asiamah Yeboah (MSc, BSc) is a vibrant young man with versatile knowledge and experience in Mathematics (Optimisation), Information Communication and Technology, and Engineering.

As a member of the administration with such a high expertise, he is able to assist in the day-today activities of the Centre.

His attitude towards work is exceptional. Isaac is inarguably eloquent and adaptive to changes. He has the skill to analyse scientific issues. Isaac has had the opportunity to work with Pond Security and LKS Kroenenburger GmbH in Europe.

Mr. Nyemitei Odjidja Principal IT Manager, Medical Training & Simulation Centre, UGMC, Legon Nyemitei Odjidja is a Principal IT Manager at the Centre. He has served as a Senior IT Assistant at the University of Ghana Computing Systems Multimedia Unit.

Nyemitei holds a Masters’ Degree in Information Technology from the Sikkim Manipal University, India and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering, KNUST, Ghana.

He is also a CompTIA IT Health Technician, a Cisco Certified Cyber Security Professional (CCNA CyberOPs) and a trained global networking professional at the India Institute of Hardware Technology (IIHT).

As an IT Manager at the MTSC, his roles include programming simulation software to model manikins’ physiological responses to instructor specifications and running pre-programmed scenarios with instructors, operating and maintaining audio/visual equipment used in simulation.

Mr. Ben Boakye Mensah Senior Assistant Director, University of Ghana Medical Centre, Accra

Ben Boakye Mensah is a young graduate with excellent organizational skills and good leadership qualities, either as a team player or as an individual.

He attended Opoku Ware Secondary School from 2006 to 2008 where he studied Business. He then went to read Marketing at Kumasi Polytechnic from 1999 to 2003 where he attained an HND certificate in Marketing.

Ben then went to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2004 to 2008 to read Law and obtained an LLB certificate. He started work at Coca Cola Company Ltd. as an Operations officer in 2013, and a year later was moved to supervise the Empties Department.

In 2015, Ben joined Groupe Nduom as the Compliance Officer for Pentrust Ltd.

Ben joined the Medical Training and Simulation Centre at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in January 2020 as a Senior Administrative Manager and a Personal Assistant to the Director.
