Welcome to the 2016 Champions Mile and Chairman’s Sprint Prize to be held on Sunday 1st May. International heavyweights Maurice, Chautauqua, Buffering and Mongolian Saturday will head to Sha Tin Racecourse to challenge Hong Kong’s star milers and crack sprinters in an exciting Group 1 double header. The HK$14 million Champions Mile is ranked in the world’s top 25 races and is an established international feature, while the HK$10 million Chairman’s Sprint Prize, the fourth leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, is a new addition to the elite G1 roster. In the FORM GUIDE, the PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS table provides you with a bird-eye's view of the race. This at-a-glance guide gives you a full form summary of the horses in a simple and concise table. Another handy tool is the INTERNATIONAL RATINGS CHART. In weight-for-age races like the Champions Mile and Chairman’s Sprint Prize, generally speaking, the higher a horse's rating, which is based on racing performance, the better its chance to win. A preliminary SPEED CHART has been included to assist in identifying likely positions in running. Please note that this is preliminary only and the full Speed Map will be available after barrier draw in the SpeedPOWER Form Guide on www.hkjc.com/english/formguide/formguide.asp. If you need further information and analysis, just flip over to the next section where you will find the COMPREHENSIVE PAST PERFORMANCE of the horses. Also included is the FORM ANALYSIS, which highlights the notable achievements and racing characteristics of each horse. Another feature is the RATINGS HISTORY CHART. This chart indicates the quality and consistency of a horse's previous 10 starts through a graphical illustration of the ratings achieved in these races. This information is correct as of 18th April 2016. This specialist sprinter has Dundonnell 113 performed at 1400m previously but he hasn’t been stretched to a mile in Secret Weapon 113 over two years. However, he led a 1200m sprint at a good clip on April 3 Packing Pins 111 and should be leading these. Leaders have a better record in the | Average performance rating of 5 most recent winners = 119. Champions Mile than they do in the autumn equivalent, the Hong Kong Mile. But the Sha Tin 1600m circuit is extremely fair, with winners coming from all over the map. One particular position, “back, 3-wide”, is a recurring position for these big-race winners. Inaugurated in 2001, the race subsequently became an international event in 2005 and was elevated to its existing G1 status two years later, in 2007. One of the Top 100 G1 races in the world, the race’s prize money stands at HK$14 million. Since the race opened to overseas contenders in 2005, local runners have won ten of the past 11 renewals and dominated every running until 2014 when dual South African Horse of the Year Variety Club broke their stranglehold with his emphatic display at Sha Tin.
