Hanoï Kel-P Remix MARIE MINET — Hanoï Kel-P Remix Kel-P remixes Marie Minet's single "Hanoi" in an original mix of genres between afrobeat and French music. A few weeks after the release of her track Hanoï, a luminous and elegant ballad about a Parisian woman's desire to leave everything behind, written with her brother during a cathartic trip to Asia, Marie Minet unveils her new version: Hanoi Remix, a rhythmic and sunny production by Kel-P. MARIE MINET [email protected] +33 667 15 30 18 MARIEMINET.COM With this new track, influenced by Afro-pop and French music, and carried by warm and voluptuous brass instruments, Kel-P once again shows her talent. A careful production, respecting the acoustic richness of its original version. Marie is a complete artist who gives herself entirely to the stories she interprets as she gives herself to life. When a second lockdown was announced, she left without hesitation to Ghana to meet a new generation of producers from the afro-fusion and afrobeat movement. During this trip, Marie Minet met Kel-P, a young Nigerian producer who made a name for himself with Burna Boy's African Giant album (nominated last year at the Grammy Awards) but also with Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, and other collaborations such as with the producer Killbeatz (Ed Sheeran, Fuse Odg, Wizkid). Her first album Clair Obscur allowed Marie Minet to express herself, revealing a mix between the diferent cultures she lived through, and confirmed with this first afro-pop remix. Kel-P, who carries the acoustic tradition of Afrobeat, brightly mixing it with electronic rhythms to ofer us a new version of Hanoi, unveiling summer. A clear and bewitching voice, strong lyrics with nostalgic tones. Deep melodies with Cap Verdean and African influences, her first album Clair Obscur, in which Marie interprets timeless and universal songs one by one, is set to music by a central figure of world music, Jon Luz. The album, which is expected to be released this summer, will be accompanied by Afro-beat remixes in collaboration with some of the most promising producers of her generation. Released on November 20, 2020, her first single Attendre l'été now exceeds 110,000 streams, followed by Prête à tout with more than 150,000 streams on Spotify. Spotify France included Hanoi in its 'New Music Friday' playlist, Deezer has included Waiting for Summer in the 'Elles' editorial playlist, during the week of International Women's Rights Day. Her music is listened to by over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and her YouTube channel has over 800,000 views in total Via Embassy Of Music / M.A.R. @marieminetmusic FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM YOUTUBE SPOTIFY FRANCE PRESS: [email protected] +49 176 40712032 RADIO: [email protected] +33 153 16 15 15 MARIE MINET [email protected] +33 667 15 30 18 MARIEMINET.COM .

SPACESUIT ON THE LEFT… An Improvised Archival Mixtape-Manifesto by an Artist F.K.A Negro (Dead) conjured by Nia O. Witherspoon I had a dream. I’m trying to remember. How the hell did we get here, how the hell/Christmas Eve last year.1 But I will speak of a different we. A Black We. Weeeeeeeeeee!2 Set/Directives/When and Where I Enter3 Imagine my body before you. I have many accoutrements for my spell of blackness. I have technology. I have turntables, and many other flashing machines. I have tarot cards and amethyst, tourmaline, and blue agate, and 6-inch metallic + studded acrylic nails. And a space helmet, but my lashes are so long you can see them through the helmet. And a pony-tail on the crown of my head with neon microbraids that trail over all the equipment like octopus tentacles. Imagine you saw me and you were like, Whoa. And now imagine there is no other way I can tell you this story. And now imagine you never heard this story before. 1. Points of arrival. 1619 when the first African enslaved people arrived on these shores before they were violently renamed America by Europeans who wanted money, power, and land. And before the African people who previously called themselves Yoruba, Wolof, Hausa, Ibo, Dogon, Bantu-Kongo, Dagara--were violently (un)named “slave” and every other name Black people have ever been given on this place. Before Black was a We. [Cue Mos Def: “Sex/love/sex, love, and money” underscore]4 1 Mark asks this question at the beginning of RENT by Jonathan Larson.

  • Angélique Kidjo
Angélique Kidjo Over the last three decades, Angélique Kidjo has cemented her status as one of the most singular and extraordinary voices in international music, inspiring countless artists with her ingenuity, eclecticism, and seemingly boundless creative spirit. On her new album Mother Nature, the four-time Grammy Award-winning luminary joins forces with many of her musical progeny, including some of the most captivating young creators of West African music, Afrobeat, Afro-pop, dancehall, hip-hop, and alt-R&B. The result is a truly visionary body of work, rooted in a deep understanding of musical tradition yet endlessly forward-thinking and inventive. The follow-up to 2019’s Celia (her Grammy Award-winning, critically lauded tribute to Celia Cruz), Mother Nature fulfills a promise Kidjo first made upon accepting the award for Best Global Music Album at the 2016 Grammys, then reiterated after winning the Best World Music Album prize in 2020 and proudly proclaiming: “The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm, and the time has come.” As Kidjo points out, the album was sparked from a newly heightened awareness of her own musical legacy. “For many years I was mostly just focused on creating music that makes me happy and that’s true to who I am, but over time I started to realize the impact that my songs have had on the younger generations,” says Kidjo, who hails from the West African country of Benin. “This album came from thinking about how we can build from that, and start pushing things forward together.” To that end, Mother Nature confronts such pressing issues as racial inequity and the climate crisis, once again proving the longtime activist’s rare power to transform complex subject matter into music that’s radiantly joyful.

  • Africa's Soft Power : Philosophies, Political Values, Foreign Policies and Cultural Exports / Oluwaseun Tella
“This seven-chapter book is a powerful testimonial to consummate African scholarship. Its analysis is rigorous, insightful, lucid and authoritative, providing fresh perspectives on selected uniquely African philosophies, and the potential ities, deployment and limitations of soft power in Africa’s international relations. The author rigorously Africanises the concept, broadening its analytic scope from its biased Western methodology, thus brilliantly fulfilling that great African pro verb made famous by the inimitable Chinua Achebe: ‘that until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter’. This is truly an intellectual tour de force.” W. Alade Fawole, Professor of International Relations, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. “This book addresses an important tool in the arsenal of foreign policy from an African perspective. African states have significant soft power capacities, although soft power is not always appreciated as a lever of influence, or fully integrated into countries’ foreign policy strategies. Tella takes Nye’s original concept and Africanises it, discussing Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa via their respective philosophies of Pharaonism, Harambee, Omolúwàbí and Ubuntu. This study is a critical contribution to the literature on African foreign policies and how to use soft power to greater effect in building African agency on the global stage.” Elizabeth Sidiropoulos, Chief Executive, South African Institute of International Affairs, Johannesburg, South Africa. “Soft power is seldom associated with African states, given decades bedevilled by coup d’états, brazen dictatorships and misrule. This ground-breaking book is certainly a tour de force in conceptualising soft power in the African context.
