Jeff Hermann Orange County Council Jeff Herrmann Measuring the Outcome Jeff Hermann Orange County Council Jeff Herrmann Jeff Herrmann was named the President & Scout Executive of the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America on July 1, 2010. He is an Eagle Scout (1973), Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow (1975) and recipient of the Order of the Arrow National Distinguished Service Award (1981). As President & Scout Executive, his priorities for the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America are: expanding and improving the quality of program delivery throughout the council; increasing the diversity of the council’s membership and leadership; making full use of the council’s camping property assets; and developing a sustainable funding plan for Scouting in the council. Prior to his selection as President & Scout Executive, Herrmann worked briefly for the National Council of the BSA as a Regional Director and on the development of $300 million The Summit Bechtel Family National Scouting Reserve, which is the permanent home to the National Jamboree and new National High Adventure Base in W.V. Herrmann comes to Orange County with more than 30 years of implementing and completing successful fundraising efforts, improving the quality of unit program delivery, enhancing public relations and marketing for Scouting, maximizing growth in both youth and adult memberships and directing the development of staff. Prior to his work at the National Council, Herrmann served as Scout Executive for the Denver Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (2004-2009). In Denver, under his leadership the council increased annual operating revenue by over 28% and had more than 10,000 volunteer leaders and served more than 60,000 children annually. In addition, Herrmann gave leadership to the completion of an $18.5 million capital campaign, the construction of a new council service center, as well the design of a $100 million endowment campaign. Herrmann also served as Scout Executive for the South Florida Council in Miami Lakes, FL (1997-2004) and Scout Executive of the Quapaw Area Council in Little Rock, AK (1992-1997). The safety of children in our Scouting programs is our top priority. As an organization, we have an important duty and an incredible opportunity to focus on keeping children safe, supported, and protected. The BSA’s Volunteer Screening Database, previously known as “Ineligible Volunteer Files,” is at the forefront of youth protection procedures. While it has often been misunderstood and criticized, time and time again it has successfully prevented potential predators from re-joining our organization and gaining access to youth – which is precisely why we have been maintaining these records since the 1920s. The database system is one of the approaches most often recommended by experts, including the Centers for Disease Control, to keep kids safe and is a collection of information on individuals who, due to past inappropriate behavior or suspicion of inappropriate behavior, are prohibited from participating in BSA programs. How the Volunteer Screening Database (VSD) works: • Individuals are added to the Volunteer Screening Database based on violations of our policies, or suspected violations of our policies. They don’t need to have been convicted to be added to the VSD. We have a very low threshold for removing someone from our scouting programs. Again – this is because our priority is to protect kids, first and foremost, above all else. We believe victims and routinely remove individuals based on only allegations of inappropriate behavior.

Camping and outdoor activities fulfill a boy’s dreams of fun, excitement, and adventure. Camps provide a natural setting for quality time with family and friends. Scout council camps with trained staffers provide an ideal setting for a wide variety of activities. Who Can Attend? The whole family is invited to attend Cub Scout Family Camp. Anyone in the family (immediate or extended) may attend any of the Cub Scout Family Camps hosted at Camp Rockefeller on Gus Blass Scout Reservation, if there is one registered Cub Scout in the family. How much does it Cost? Every effort is made to keep costs low while providing a safe, fun event for you and your family. The registration fees below cover food, craft supplies, sporting good supplies, insurance, and incidentals to keep a camp open (like electricity, permits, equipment repair, etc.). Cub Scouts will receive an event patch as part of their fees. Most of the overhead costs of keeping Camp Rockefeller operating is offset by Friends of Scouting and other donations. I have been representing survivors of childhood sexual abuse as a lawyer since admitted to the Oregon Bar in October of 2001. In that capacity, I have been involved in dozens of cases against the Boy Scouts of America, representing primarily men who were sexually harmed as minors during their time in scouting, first with the firm of O’Donnell Clark & Crew, LLP in Portland, Oregon from 2001 to 2013.

Competition for employment is keen, the jobs are demanding, and the experience is exhilarating. The minimum age is sixteen. In a few cases, some mature fifteen years old may be considered. Applicants must be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America. The principle of the Scout Oath and Law must be practiced as a way of life.     2020 Membership Recruitment Playbook MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT OVERVIEW: Scouting changes lives and Inviting new families to join Scouting is one of the most important things we can do to impact our communities and forward the Scouting movement. This annual process begins by working to ensure all youth and unit’s recharter in December. Focus is placed on ensuring all Cub Scouts cross over into Scouts BSA. Scouting unit’s run Spring and Fall Recruitment Events to invite families to join. Lastly, we work to start new units throughout the year, offering more locations for families to participate in Scouting. Sustaining strong membership in a unit depends not only on having new members join the unit but also on engaging youth and their families in the unit experience so that they stay. The unit role of New Member Coordinator helps to ensure that these keys to success take place.
