Thank you, Nadine, for coordinating such a wonderful midday event. Thank you, too, to George and Bea for recommending an ideal location – The Mt. Airy Tavern. We had two new members join us: Glen Williams and Tom Cuddeback. They both enjoy seeing Stu- debakers and I learned that Tom really misses his last Studebaker. I believe we all have fond old Studebaker memories so it was fun to hear Tom describe his to us at the table. I was thinking that I should pass around a sign-in sheet at our events so I can list everyone who attended. I learned the hard way not to follow Google Maps directions too closely because they sent me to the back of the Tavern and there was no back entrance. I thought my Hawk would be safer back there but there was no need to worry. The Mr. Airy folks enjoyed seeing the Studebakers that made the trip – Larry’s, Bea and George’s and mine (did I miss any?). Our next event is in May and I’m look- ing forward to Murray’s road trip plans. I’m writing this column on the morning of the second day of spring (March21) and it’s snowing like crazy. I hear that this is the snow we all missed during the winter. Ugh! Irene and I are supposed to head out for a Danube River cruise tomorrow and we are hoping that the roads and runways will allow us to leave on time. I wonder if I’ll see any Studebakers or other classic cars in Eastern Europe. I doubt I’ll see one except a Yugo or two. Our earlier trip to Croatia uncovered a Yugo on the top of a hill. We were told an old riddle: What do you call two Yugos on mountain? A miracle. Stay tuned. I took the Hawk out twice last weekend for a local car cruise-in event. Old Burt started up easily and enjoyed the short trips. We were supposed to head up to Thurmont on an Olney cruise-in covered bridge road trip but it was cancelled due to bad weather. I hope things look better when we return. I enjoy showing off the Hawk and the Avanti II. I’ll finish with some more information about Facebook and Studebakers. Shortly after I wrote last month’s article about Facebook I found another site there for Gran Turismo Studebakers. I immedi- ately joined it. Oh, there’s one for Raymond Loewy fans too. The Commander is the monthly publication of the Potomac Chapter, Studebaker Drivers Club. Subscription is by membership to the Potomac Chapter at $15.00 yearly. Canada/Mexico $20.00, all other countries $25.00. Direct all membership correspondence to the Membership Director. Direct all correspondence relating to The Commander to the Editor, who retains the right to edit or modify any contribution. Deadline date is the 15th of the month for the following month’s issue. The Commander is also an internet publication. The Potomac Chapter is an officially chartered chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club, Inc.; its by-laws were approved, and charter granted by SDC in June 1967. Membership is recruited from the States of Maryland, West Virginia, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. And those from other areas wishing to join the chapter are welcome.     Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention.
