Baseball DH Home vs. Lake Michigan College May 4 @ 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm Jayhawks split final doubleheader with Lake Michigan College Muskegon Community College wrapped up their season with a split vs. Lake Michigan College at home, winning game one 9-7 and dropping a heartbreaker in game two, 6-5 in 8 innings. In game one MCC grabbed a late lead for the win. Lake Michigan scored 6 runs in the first inning and the Jayhawks had to play from behind. MCC tied the game in the 5th inning on a Gage Andrews (Gaylord St. Marys HS) to make it 7-7. In the bottom of the 6th Jon Henry (Ajax HS, Ontario) singled on a 1-2 count, driving in 2 runs and MCC held on for the victory. The Jayhawks finished with 11 hits with Andrews finishing 3-3. Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) and Jake Soules (Troy HS) also had multiple hits. Branden Posky (Livonia Stevenson HS) picked up the win on the mound with 6.2 innings of relief work, giving up 3 hits, 1 and striking out 5. MCC almost pulled off the sweep after coming from behind to tie the game in the 6th inning but LMC put up a run in the top of the 8th inning and MCC couldn’t answer. MCC finished the game with 9 hits, led by Jake Soules (Troy HS) and Tanner Morren (Allendale HS) who each had 2 hits. The Jayhawks finish the season 15-13 in Western Conference play and 31-18 overall. Baseball DH at Lake Michigan College May 3 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm Jayhawks split doubleheader against Lake Michigan College In a doubleheader played at Stevensville Lakeshore High School due to unplayable field conditions at Lake Michigan College each team won a game, MCC over LMC in game one 9-2 and LMC turning the tables to take game two, 4-3. In the first game MCC opened the scoring in the 2nd inning with 2 runs and LMC responded with 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd. The Jayhawks scored 5 runs in the 5th inning, sparked by RBI’s from Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian), Tyson Seymour (Gladstone), and Nolan Perrin (Hudsonville). Jon Henry (Ajax HS, Ontario) picked up his 5th win on the season, going the distance and allowing only 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 5 . The Jayhawks pounded out 12 hits led by Jake Soules (Troy HS), and Perrin with 2 hits each. Game two was a low scoring affair. Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) got things going with a solo in the top of the 1st inning and LMC answered with a run in the bottom of the 1st then tacked on 2 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd for a 3-1 lead. The Red Hawks scored 1 more in the 3rd before the Jayhawks could get on the board again with 1 run in the 4th and 1 run in the 6th to finish out the scoring. The Jayhawk’s offense managed 8 hits led by Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian), and Seymour. The Jayhawks are now14-12 in conference play and 30-17 overall. They wrap up the regular season on Saturday, 5/4 when Lake Michigan College makes the return trip to MCC for a 1:00 pm doubleheader. Calvin College JV 9 Muskegon CC 4 Muskegon Community College lost a soggy, rain shortened game to Calvin College JV by a score of 9-4. The Jayhawks had 4 players with one each. MCC returns to action on Friday, 5/3 when they travel to Benton Harbor to take on Lake Michigan College before they return home on Saturday to complete the final home and home conference series of the year. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 pm and first pitch on Saturday is 1:00 pm. Baseball DH Home vs. Kellogg Community College April 27 @ 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm MCC loose twice to KCC Muskegon Community College lost twice to Kellogg Community College, 11-5 and 15-2 (5 innings). In game one the Jayhawks carried the lead into the 6th inning but the Bruins exploded for 10 runs to capture the win. The MCC offense was led by Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) who went 2-3, and Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) with 3 RBI on a solo home run. In game two KCC jumped out to a 4 run lead in the 1st inning and never looked back. The Jayhawk attack was limited to 4 hits. MCC sits at 13-11 in Western Conference play and 29-15 overall. They will be looking for a 4 game sweep of their last conference foe Lake Michigan College to have a chance to qualify for regional play. They return to action on Tuesday 4/30 with a 3:00 pm doubleheader at Calvin College. Baseball DH at Kellogg Community College April 26 @ 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm Jayhawks drop doubleheader to league leader Kellogg Community College Muskegon Community College lost twice to Kellogg Community College, 13-0 (5 innings) and 10-5. In game one the Jayhawks could only muster 3 hits, a double by Jake Soules (Troy HS) and singles by Jarrett Prins (Grand Haven HS) and Tanner Morren (Allendale HS). Kellogg only had 7 hits, but they were aided by 9 walks and 4 errors. MCC broke their scoreless streak with 2 runs in the first inning of game two, but they wouldn’t score again until the 6th inning and by then KCC had a commanding 9-2 lead. Soules was the only Jayhawk with multiple hits, he finished 3-4. MCC will host KCC on Saturday to wrap up the home and home series. Baseball DH Home vs. Mid Michigan College April 20 @ 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm Muskegon Community College and Mid Michigan College split season finale On day 2 of the home and home series the 2 teams split with MCC winning game one 17-7 but dropping game two 10-5. Game one was all offense for MCC as they scored in every inning, including 7 in the bottom of the 6th for the mercy rule victory. The Jayhawks scored 4 runs in the 1st but Mid Michigan returned the favor with 4 runs in the top of the 2nd. From there it was all MCC as they scored in every inning while holding Mid Michigan scoreless until the top of the 6th. MCC tallied 13 hits on the day, led by Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) who was 3-4 with 3 RBI, Jake Soules (Troy HS) who was 2-4 with 3 RBI and Shane Thompson (Sault St. Marie HS) who was also 2-4 with 2 RBI. Nolan Perrin (Hudsonville HS) had multiple hits with a 2-4 day. In game two Mid Michigan broke open a close game with 4 runs in the top of the 7th to salvage the split. MCC outhit Mid Michigan 9-7 but they were hurt by 7 errors. Antwain Danner (Simeon HS, Chicago) was 2-4 and Jon Henry (Ajax. HS, Ontario) clubbed a home run. The Jayhawks fall to 13-7 in conference play and 29-11 overall. They have 5 days to recover before travelling to Bailey Park in Battle Creek to face the league leading Kellogg Community College Bruins on Friday, 4/26. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm. Baseball DH Home vs. Mid Michigan College April 19 @ 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm MCC beats Mid Michigan College twice On a day that Mid Michigan acted as the home team at MCC it was the Jayhawks picking up 2 wins over Mid Michigan College, 6-1 and 7-3 (8 innings). In game one Jeremy Karthan (Brunswick HS, Ohio) was the winning pitcher for MCC. He allowed 3 hits and 1 run over 7 innings with 6 strikeouts. MCC put up 4 runs in the 1st inning and added 2 runs in the 7th. Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) was 2-3 at the plate to lead the Jayhawk offense. In game two MCC held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning but Mid Michigan rallied to score 3 runs for the tie and forced extra innings. In the 8th the Jayhawks broke open the tight game with 4 runs and Mid Michigan couldn’t answer. Jon Henry (Ajax HS Ontario, Canada) was credited with the victory with 1.2 innings of shutout pitching in relief. Zack Northcott (Walled Lake Northern HS) was the starter and he worked 6.1 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 7. The Jayhawks banged out 11 hits in the game led by Nolin Perrin (Hudsonville HS) who was 2-3 with 2 walks and Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) who was 2-5. Shane Thompson (Sault Ste. Marie HS) drove in the game winner with a in the 8th. MCC improves to 12-6 in conference play and 28-10 overall. Due to the field conditions at MCC’s home field they took a short trip to face Grand Rapids Community College at Davenport University. GRCC prevailed in 9-0 in the first game with MCC taking the nightcap 9-4. In game one GRCC scored in all but 2 innings on the way to the shutout victory. MCC was hurt by several defensive miscues and walks and only managed 3 hits on the offensive end; singles by Collin Houseman (Reeths-Puffer HS), Tyus Beach (East Kentwood HS) and Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS). Game two started with a bang for the Jayhawks as they put up 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st to jump out to a quick lead. They were able to keep GRCC off the scoreboard until the top of the 5th inning and by then they had a commanding 6 run lead. Sean Casey (Grand Haven HS) was the winning pitcher for MCC. He surrendered 4 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings with 6 strikeouts. Jon Henry (Ajax HS, Ontario) threw 2 innings in relief out of the bullpen to preserve the win. The Jayhawks offense put up 9 hits, led by Tommy McCullough (Allendale HS) who was 2-2 and Jake Conklin ((Holland Calvary Christian HS) who was 2-3. With the split the Jayhawks own a 10-6 conference record, 26-10 overall. Next up MCC travels to Mid Michigan College (at Shepard High School) on Friday, 4/19 for a doubleheader. Baseball DH at Grand Rapids Community College April 13 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm Jayhawks drop two games to GRCC Muskegon Community College lost twice to rival Grand Rapids Community College, 4-1 and 5- 0. In game one the Jayhawks watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover. GRCC scored a run in the first and then neither team would score again until GRCC added 3 in the 5th. MCC managed 1 run in the top of the 7th but would get no closer as they had only 3 hits for the game. Tanner Morren (Allendale HS), Tommy McCullough (Allendale HS), and Collin Houseman (Reeths-Puffer HS) each collected a hit. In game two MCC was limited to only 1 hit, a double from Collin Houseman (Reeths-Puffer HS). MCC stands at 9-5 in Western Conference play and 25-9 overall. In game one Josh Hilliard (Coleman HS) was the winning pitcher for MCC, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 strike out over 5 innings of work. Danny Medlock (Warren Mott HS) picked up the save with 2 innings out of the bullpen. Nolan Perrin (Hudsonville HS) put the Jayhawks up with a 3 run homer in the 3rd inning. Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) was 2-4. In game two it was Hunter Nelson (Standish Sterling HS) with a complete game victory on the mound. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. MCC trailed 3-2 in the top of the 5th but scored twice and added an insurance run in the 6th. Baseball DH at Cornerstone University JV April 8 @ 3:30 pm - 8:30 pm Jayhawks win twice at Cornerstone JV The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks traveled to Grand Rapids to face the Cornerstone University JV team and came home with two wins, 18-1 and 5-3. In game one Nolan Perrin (Hudsonville HS) was clutch at the plate, driving in 5 runs with 3 hits to lead the Jayhawks. He was a double away from hitting for the cycle with a in the 1st inning, and home run in the 2nd inning and a single in the 3rd inning. Jared Schwartz (Grand Haven HS) earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for MCC with 5 innings of 2 hit, 1 run work. He struck out 5. The Jayhawks pounded out 15 hits. Baseball DH at Ancilla College April 6 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm Jayhawks complete season sweep of Ancilla College Muskegon Community College swept the season series with Ancilla College by holding on for a 6-5 win before a 17-0 blowout. In game one the Jayhawks scored in each of the first 4 innings for a 6-0 lead before Ancilla scored twice in the 5th and 3 more times in the bottom of the 7th to make it close. Tanner Morren (Allendale HS) picked up the complete game victory, scattering 7 hits and striking out 6. The Jayhawks totaled 12 hits for the game. Jarrett Prins (Grand Haven HS) was 2-2 at the plate and Tommy McCullough (Allendale HS), Tyus Beach (East Kentwood HS), and Jake Soules (Troy HS) were each 2-4. In game one Andrew Tokarz (Utica Eisenhower HS), Danny Medlock (Warren Mott HS) and Hunter Nelson (Standish Sterling HS) combined to allow only 3 hits. Medlock picked up the win with 2.2 innings of work. MCC picked up 12 hits, led by Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) who was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI and Tommy McCullough (Allendale HS) who was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Jon Henry (Ajax HS, Ontario) was also 2-3 with 2 RBI and Jarrett Prins (Grand Haven HS) was 2-4 with 2 RBI. In game two MCC trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning but they were able to put up 5 runs and hold on for the win. Baseball DH at Kalamazoo Valley Community College-rescheduled from 3/30 April 2 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm Baseball team splits in rescheduled game at Kalamazoo Valley Community College Muskegon Community College traveled to Kalamazoo Valley Community College for a makeup doubleheader with the Cougars and came home with a split, losing the opener 7-1 but bouncing back to claim a 6-4 win in the nightcap. In game one the Jayhawks watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover. KVCC scored runs in the first 4 innings. Tyus Beach (East Kentwood HS) and Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) were both 2-3 for the game. Game two started as a repeat of game one with KVCC jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the 1st inning but MCC put up 3 runs in the top of the 2nd only to see KVCC add a run in the bottom of the 2nd for a 3-3 tie, then tack on a run in the 4th for a 4-3 lead. The Jayhawks scored 2 runs in the 6th to go back in front then added an insurance run in the 7th for the victory. Sean Casey (Grand Haven HS) earned the win, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and striking out 9 for the complete game gem. Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, including a home run and 3 RBI. Gage Andrews (Gaylord St. Mary’s HS) also homered and finished 2-3. Baseball DH Home vs. Kalamazoo Valley Community College March 29 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm Jayhawks lose twice to Kalamazoo Valley Community College Muskegon Community College hosted the Courgars of KVCC on Friday and dropped both games, 10-8 and 2-0. In game one MCC rallied from a 9-4 deficit after 5 innings but came up short. Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) finished the game 3-5 with 3 RBI. Collin Houseman (Reeths- Puffer HS) and Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) both were 2-4. Game two was a pitcher’s duel with one pitch making the difference. KVCC took a 2 run lead on a 2 run home run in the 1st inning. Zack Northcott (Walled Lake Northern HS) pitched a gem, going the distance, but took the loss for the Jayhawks, surrendering 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, striking out 6. Muskegon Community College hosted Glen Oaks Community College in a rescheduled doubleheader and won both ends, 8-1 and 7-3. In game one Branden Posky (Livonia Stevenson HS) worked the complete game for the victory, giving up 1 run on 1 hit over seven innings and striking out six. In Game one the Jayhawks scored 5 runs in the 4th to grab the lead and coasted to the victory. The Jayhawks used a total of 5 pitchers in the game with Danny Medlock (Warren Mott HS) getting the win. Josh Hilliard (Coleman HS) was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Jarret Prins (Grand Haven HS) and Gage Andrews (Gaylord St. Mary HS) also had 2 RBI each. In game one MCC outhit GOCC 12-7. At the end of 6 innings MCC held a slim 1 run lead but they scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to secure the win. Jon Henry (Ajax HS/Ontario Canada) was the winning pitcher, working 5 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five. Sean Casey (Grand Haven HS) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tanner Morren (Allendale HS) and Tommy McCullough (Allendale HS) were both 2-3 and Jake Soules (Troy HS) and Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) finished 2-4. Baseball DH at Cleary University JV March 18 @ 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm Jayhawks take two from Cleary University JV The Jayhawks opened the northern part of their schedule with a doubleheader win over Cleary University JV, 9-8 and 13-1 (5 innings). In game one MCC trailed 7-1 through 4 innings. The Jayhawks scored 3 in the top of the 5th then added 5 more in the top of the 6th. Jon Henry (Ajax HS, ON Canada) earned the win in relief, allowing no runs on 2 hits with 2 strike outs and 0 walks in 2.1 innings of work. Ben VanSumeren (Whitehall HS) and Sean Casey (Grand Haven HS) both pitched out of the bullpen with Casey recording the final 3 outs for the save. On offense it was leadoff hitter Jake Conklin (Holland Cavalry Christian HS) going 3-5, Jake Soules (Troy HS) finishing 2-4 with 2 RBI and Henry adding 2 RBI to help his cause. Game two started out with a bang as the Jayhawks recording 8 runs in the 1st inning and the offense rolled from there. Miami Ohio Hamilton 5 Muskegon CC 3 Muskegon Community College wrapped up their spring trip with a 5-3 loss to Miami Ohio Hamilton. The Jayhawks out hit Miami Ohio Hamilton 9-7 and rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the 6th inning. Jake Soules (Troy HS) finished the game 2-3 with a double and Collin Houseman (Reeths-Puffer HS) was 2-4 with an RBI. The Jayhawks also got RBIs from Tyus Beach (East Kentwood HS) and Jon Henry (Ajax HS-Ontario). MCC finished their trip 8-4. Muskegon CC 3 Hagerstown CC 0 Muskegon Community College defeated Hagerstown Community College 3-0. MCC got good pitching from Sean Casey (Grand Haven HS) and John Henry (Ajax HS-Ontario) who combined to throw a shutout. Casey picked up the victory with six innings of work, allowing 4 hits and no runs while striking out 9. Henry closed the game for his first save of the year. Jake Soules (Troy HS) went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Jayhawks in hits. The win moves the team to 8-3 for the trip with one game remaining. Manor College 3 Muskegon CC 2 Muskegon Community College managed only 4 hits in a 3-2 loss to Manor College. MCC got on the board first with a run in the 4th inning, but Manor College evened the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, then added 2 more in the bottom of the 5th. The Jayhawks scratched out a run in the top of the 6th but couldn’t plate the equalizer. The Jayhawks got strong pitching from Jarret Prins (Grand Haven HS) who started and went 4 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run with no walks. Tyus Beach (East Kentwood HS) had an RBI single and Jon Henry (Ajax HS, Toronto) added a double. The loss breaks a 6 game winning streak and drops their record to 7-3. In game one Jeremy Karthan (Brunswick HS) shut down Manor College with a complete game, 3 hit shutout. Tanner Morren (Allendale HS) clubbed a solo home run in the 1st inning and the Jayhawks scored 4 runs in the 6th inning led by Morren, Nolan Perrin (Hudsonville HS), and Tyson Seymour (Gladstone HS) each with RBIs in the inning. In game 2 it was Danny Medlock (Warren Mott HS) who led MCC to a victory on the hill. He went four innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 7. In game one MCC only managed two hits; Tanner Morren (Allendale HS) hit a solo home run in the 3rd inning and Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) had a single in the 5th. In game two the Jayhawks picked up their first victory by stealing the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 runs, then held off the Builders in the 7th inning.
