Crushing its opposition the movie acquired a total of seven awards, including best actor for Colin Firth, the hot title of Best Film, and the added bonus of Best British Film. Whilst the success of The King’s Speech may not have been a surprise, the four awards acquired by Inception certainly were. Having received fewer nominations than expected in the Golden Globes, and Oscars, Inception shone at the BAFTAS, leaving awards staples The Social Network (3wins), Black Swan (1 win), and True Grit (1 win) trailing in its wake. BAFTA’s rising star award this year went to Tom Hardy for his role as Eames in Inception, and the sought-after award for an outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer went to Chris Morris for his daring comic portrayal of jihadist extremism in Four Lions. The award for best supporting actor went to Geoffrey Rush, as Lionel Logue in The King’s Speech, and best supporting actress went to Helena Bonham Carter, also for The King’s Speech, solidifying claims that 2010 was a great success for British film. Report Christopher Fraser 19 Feb ’11 at 8:25 pm @Question: Because the UK hasn’t woken up to the fact that people might actually want to watch the Oscars (not bitter at all, promise) the full broadcast is only on Sky Movies. If you haven’t got that, best bet is to try and find an online stream. But that’s problematic by itself. Report Most Read Discussed 1. TV Review: Vera Series 5 Episode 2: ‘Old Wounds’ 2.
