    NHL MORNING SKATE: STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS EDITION – MAY 25, 2021 THREE HARD LAPS * The Jets won the first triple-overtime game of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs – the longest game in franchise history – to complete their first-ever sweep. Winnipeg became the third team to reach the 2021 Second Round. * More than one-third of contests so far this postseason have required extra time, with 12 overtime games through 35 games played (34%). Only seven rounds in NHL history have featured more such contests. * Goaltenders Spencer Knight and Cam Talbot stood tall on Monday to help the Panthers and Wild extend their respective series to a Game 6. JETS WIN LONGEST GAME IN FRANCHISE HISTORY, COMPLETE FIRST-EVER SWEEP The Jets and Oilers required overtime for a third straight game and second straight day, this time extending to three extra periods before Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor scored after 106:52 of action. The Jets and Flames each have participated in one prior outdoor game, both under the Heritage Classic umbrella. Winnipeg played host to the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Investors Group Field, falling 3-0 to the Edmonton Oilers. Nine Jets players who appeared in that game remain with the team: Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Connor Hellebuyck, Patrik Laine, Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey, Mathieu Perreault, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. Current Calgary goaltender Cam Talbot started for Edmonton in that contest, stopping all 31 shots he faced for the third shutout in outdoor NHL game history. Current Jets forward Mark Letestu scored the winning goal (while shorthanded), as a member of the Oilers. And current Flames forward Milan Lucic recorded two penalty minutes for Edmonton. Calgary served as hosts for the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-0. A day after agreeing to a seven-year contract extension, Lundqvist is likely to return to the ice after a rare two-game stretch on the bench as New York desperately tries to get some momentum going Thursday night against the Buffalo Sabres. "It was never an option for me to leave this club," Lundqvist said after the new deal was announced. "I really want to win the Cup here in New York." This trip to Buffalo precedes a nine-game homestand which will take the Rangers (14-14-0) through Christmas, a stretch Lundqvist would surely welcome. He has a 1.69 goals-against average at Madison Square Garden compared to 3.28 on the road. He hasn't been in net at MSG since Nov. 19 because New York's only two home games since then - also its two most recent games - were started by Cam Talbot even though Lundqvist was healthy. Talbot had been outplaying Lundqvist, going 6-1-0 with a 1.49 GAA through November while the five-time Vezina Trophy finalist was 8-11-0 with a career-worst 2.51 GAA. However, Talbot came back down to Earth on Monday, giving up four goals on 29 shots in a 5-2 loss to Winnipeg. Two days later, the team announced it had agreed to terms on the new deal with Lundqvist worth a reported $59.5 million.

LIGHTNING ADVANCE WITH ANOTHER DRAMATIC OT WIN OVER COLUMBUS In a rollercoaster game that saw the Lightning take a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes after the opening faceoff, the Blue Jackets rebounded with four consecutive goals, but Tampa Bay staged a rally of its own – scoring with 98 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. In extra time, history repeated itself as Brayden Point – the 5OT hero from Game 1 – scored to record his third point of the game and lift the Lightning into the Second Round. * Point, whose goal in Game 1 ended the fourth-longest game in NHL history, became the fifth Lightning player to record multiple career overtime goals in the playoffs joining Martin St. Louis (3), Vincent Lecavalier (2), Tyler Johnson (2) and Nikita Kucherov (2).
