Thank you so much. Julie Needle British Legion Poppy Collection 2020 This was an exceptional year for The British Legion. We were not allowed door to door collection although volunteers were given poppies and metal poppy pins to sell to family and friends and neighbours if they were able to. The static tins were accepted at five of the seven stations and proved remunerative. On the very hot Saturday when walkers flocked to The Chilterns I sat on a stool opposite the church where cars are parked and had a bowl of pins and poppies to offer people. They could either donate on line or put money in a bag on the ground. Many people said they had been unable to buy poppies and were so delighted to find them in Ellesborough. I did a roaring trade! The total amount collected at the moment stands at £1,070.30, but of course many on line donations will not be included in that amount. I have not been able to collect the static tin from the Golf Club as it is closed for a month due to the pandemic. Thank you Thank You, Val The Parish Hall Committee would like to express their thanks and sincere best wishes to VAL FINCH who is standing down as the Bookings Secretary for the village hall in January. For almost 30 years that she has been involved with the hall, she has overseen many a party and social occasion and we know a lot of you will have dealt with her and know her well for her care and concern in helping each booking go smoothly. Until just over a year ago, she was also the caretaker and put in numerous hours above and beyond to make sure that the building was clean and taken care of often dealing with emergency repairs. In addition, she has helped run the 200 Club for the same 30 years and so has been instrumental in raising hundreds of pounds towards the upkeep of this historic landmark. In the early days of the 200 Club (and at one time the 300 Club – a reflection of the subscriptions all those years ago), Val went and knocked on doors to remind people to join, took the subscription money and generally drummed up support in a friendly and cheerful, community-spirited way. Val really has been a stalwart of the hall and a vital member of the community. As she hands the reins over now to Elizabeth Hine, we wish Val well and on behalf of the village, we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU. We couldn’t have done it without you Val. 7 Ellesborough Parish Church Services For the duration of the current restrictions we anticipate that the normal pattern of services will be as follows: First Sunday 10.45 a.m. Songs of Praise (modified) Second Sunday 10.45 a.m. Morning Worship Third Sunday 10.45 p.m. Matins (BCP) Fourth Sunday 10.45 a.m. Shortened Parish Communion Fifth Sunday No Service at Ellesborough All services are shortened, and are subject to Covid-19 restrictions, and may be amended if regulations change. Christmas Services We are unable to hold our usual Christmas services, but there will be a service of Christmas Lessons and Musical items at 10.45 a.m. on Sunday 20th December (third Sunday), and a short Christmas Communion Service at 10.45 a.m. on Christmas Day. A whopping 32 pages has drinkers!).
